Actually I think the bird would not like to be trapped inside. But it would love it if we would refuse to destroy the places it lives in. If we would not “clean” our gardens so much, leave them a lot more wild, providing shelter for all the wild animals of all sizes and this way enough food and shelter for the birds. We humans are “heartless beasts”.
I live on the West coast of Canada. It can get cold in the winter, even some ice storms. There are humming birds that over-winter here, and for the life of me, I can’t figure out how they survive. No nectar to eat, and you would think they need a lot of energy.
