As a 13 year old I bought a used Cushman scooter. My parents were not happy. The piston rod broke on me once and my oldest brother taught how to fix it. I had a 50cc Honda in college. I could drive to campus and make it to class without paying for parking. And, down hill, it could go 55mph. A cheap ride; 95miles per gallon. Then I traded in for used 1956 BSA Gold Star 500cc motorcycle. That was the hook set for a lifetime of motorcycles. At my 75th year my eldest son talked me out of my Harley Sportster. I may find me another Cushman scooter…
Here the legal age is 16, at that age I got a 10-yrs-old real Mobylette. Then I went Honda CB models. 50cc, then 175, then 350. Switched to BMW 900cc and kept it a while until family needed a car. Also towing a caravan with a bike is impractical.

sounds like my old Sears/Allstate moped, circa 1964.
I topped out (crouching low to cut down wind resistance) at 39 MPH

Wait until he finds out about performance kits, like 175 cc engine upgrades.

My jetson pro pedal assist bike only goes 15 km per hour but it gets me where I’m going! Though it needs a new battery
