The Levites in ancient Israel were musical priests, so the ‘veneration’ was probably because they WERE religious leaders…

I love Worm’s tiny saxophone! Tough to play with no fingers, though!

I don’t agree with Tom McDonald’s politics, but he has a lot of smart things to say about being an independent artist.

Mr. Wiggly: He’s at both ends! In the 1st panel he’s listening to Trixie talking about musical “gigs” (people stuck in the “Gig Economy” shoulda asked musicians 1st. Then they wouldn’t have thought it such a great thing) In the second panel, being inspired by Trixie, he has taken to playing something I see because I still don’t have any glasses.

Pfft, that’s only 49 words, it doesn’t even come close to Fiona Apple’s “When the Pawn…”, nevermind the current album title record holder Chumbawumba’s 156-word “The Boy Bands Have Won…”

Bards were venerated because, besides providing dinner music, they memorized a lot of lore. That included details on the king’s ancestors like that that he was descended from Odin and therefore was the absolute best man to be ruling everyone else. But there were also troubadours, minstrels… there were a lot of names for the role. They provided music without the lore. They earned a living by their talent, and ended up in the gutter if they didn’t have any. No veneration.
