Fans will remember a Rip Van Winkle-inspired story arc in which Red went to sleep and dreamed that he had woken up a grown man and Rover a very old dog. Rover was supposed to have slept for about ten years like Red so neither had any memories of the past ten years. Red shouted, “Now I’ll never know if they caught the One-Armed Man in The Fugitive!” A reader commented that this dated the story arc to 1967 at the latest.
Red was going to ask Mom and Dad for help but Rover reminded him, “Your Mom and Dad will be very old or worse.” “I don’t want to be this old,” yelled Red.
Red went back to sleep again and woke up to find that he and Rover were still young. Red’s Mom yelled, “Russell MacLean! Will you come and clean your room!?” Red ran to the house with a big smile on his face. A reader commented, “Red looks cheerful – too cheerful!” Another reader replied, “He’s glad to still be young and his Mom to still be alive.”
Personal disclosure: I was frightened as a child of growing up! Probably because I had it so protective with my grandparents and mom and all! But everything worked out. I spent time going to school and working. I need to keep busy to be happy! It seems like Red has plans for his future. So he’ll be fine!

I noticed that Rover is such a well heeled dog. He walks perfectly along with Red.

I got 25 cents/week up until I got a paper route. No allowance after that, but the chores stayed the same.

My lunch money wasn’t considered part of my allowance. Bonuses for doing chores were a nice extra.
