Perhaps because my wife’s family comes from Mexico (she was born in the US), Latin-American people have not been invisible to me for decades. But I have noticed increased presence in the few movies I watch. Of course, I watch very few, so maybe I’m not getting an accurate sample.
I still see many of my neighbors. I see our lawn guys, many employees at our local grocer, the guys with the taco truck in the hardware store parking lot, almost every employee at many of our restaurants, and all the hard working roofers, drywallers, concrete and asphalt workers, and municipal workers in our town. They are here to be part of the American dream, they are not taking jobs away from any Americans. They could have worked those jobs, but they didn’t.

September 15 was chosen as the starting point for Latino Heritage Month because it’s the anniversary of the independence of five Hispanic countries.

Be a little patient, the next decade will probably be “everyone has some Latino heritage decade”. :)
