January 1969? Oil rig blowout 6 miles off the coast of Santa Barbara CA dumped over 4 million gallons of crude on 100 miles of stunningly beautiful beaches — and the realization they are pumping oil b/c WE are buying it, demanding it, craving it.

Try a walk down an old country road on a crisp fall morning…. might be more your style.

It looks very dramatic. What’s depressing about it?

    Well Gene Kelly you’re not.

    Do, do-do-do

    Do, do-do-do-do, do-do-do

    Do-do, do-do-do

    Do, do-do-do-do, do-do-do

    Do-do, do-do-do

    Do, do-do-do-do, do-do-do

    Do, do-do-do

I’m singin’ in the rain, just singin’ in the rain

What a glorious feelin’, I’m happy again

I’m laughin’ at clouds so dark up above

The sun’s in my heart and I’m ready for love

Let the stormy clouds chase everyone from the place

Come on with the rain, I’ve a smile on my face

I walk down the lane with a happy refrain

Just singin’, singin’ in the rain

    Dancing in the rain

    I’m happy again

I’m singin’ and dancin’ in the rain

I’m dancin’ and singin’ in the rain

That’s a hurricane? I thought it was a rainstorm and it didn’t look depressing at all.

As I age – contemplative; at times melancholic; often filled with gratitude, but rarely depressing.

Since when was a storm viewed from a distance considered depressing?

We spent a couple of weeks during my early childhood at a cottage near the Great South Bay on the Atlantic. Warm days with hours and hours in the friendly bay. One night a rain storm hit. The next morning my dear mother, a romantic at heart, wanted to go look at the ocean. What a sight! There were heavy, iron-gray clouds hanging right over the bay looking like they could almost touch the waves that the wind was whipping into whitecaps like I’ve never seen. Young as I was I instantly fell in love with the ocean seeing it like that. 65 years later, still am.
