In NY they keep adding holidays where schools are closed. But they are required to have the same number of school days each year. So they keep adding school days to the beginning or end of the school calendars. Soon there will be no summer break at all – but there’ll be ton of days off for obscure holidays throughout the year.
Our kids should probably be glad for what time off they do get. Some counties like Japan and S. Korea have year-round schools which may partially explain why they are more advanced academically.
Climate change is actually part (and I stress PART) of the problem, at least here in Florida. Hurricanes Helene and Milton were unusually destructive, and are going to add a few days to the end of this school year, and hurricane season isn’t over yet.

Where they live, school starts way too early. Where I live, school doesn’t start before Labor Day.

You can’t blame climate change for everything.

I do feel like we had longer summers when I was a kid. Always 2.5 months. I think they’ve whittled that down to 2 now.

Climate change gets blamed for everything else. Why not school?
