The problem with backing into parking spaces is that you need to drive past ifirst, and then the @€$£# behind you will either drive so close you can’t back up or steal your spot.

Company I worked for had a parking rule: Always park facing out to minimize congestion when everyone is leaving. So, either a pull-through spot, or back in.

As any truck driver will attest, the skill of backing your rig via mirrors is paramount to the success of safely operating a large vehicle.

Once learned, it becomes a matter of pride to execute the maneuver smoothly in one continuous motion.

My wife and kids always back into parking spots as both a skill challenge and a convenience when exiting — and they have never driven anything larger than a mid-sized SUV.

On top of all that, Backing with today’s cameras is easier and safer than mirrors.

I drive a 4wd pickup. You try pulling forward into a parking space that has cars on both sides.
