Remember, you two—for most of this country’s history, women, people of color, and those under 21 were not allowed to vote. And all that has changed, thank goodness! Maybe, in time, kids (and pets) could have some say in how the US is run.

The very last thing I ever wanted to see was a political remark in Red and Rover.

Since this strip is mainly based on when Brian Basset was nine or ten and he was born in 1958, Red is almost certainly referring to Election Day 1968. Bad news, Red. The new Presidency will lead to the Watergate Scandal.

Today is Election Day in the US and Fireworks Night or Guy Fawkes Night in the UK. We set off fireworks and sometimes burn effigies of Guy Fawkes who was caught in the cellar underneath the Houses of Parliament with barrels of gunpowder on November 5 1605.

I hope we can keep personal political opinions out of the comments today!

If kids voted, it could be ‘Wild in the Streets’.

My daughter turned 18 in 2020…2 days AFTER election day! That bugged her to no end.

Great advice, Rover! But maybe it would be wise for parents to ask their kids for their opinions.

When I was young, I really looked forward to being able to vote. Then, I could and it was great! Now, many years later, I still really enjoy voting and the electoral process.

Wonder what Ruby’s doing today. Haven’t seen her lately.

I’m sorry to say a little tone deaf today. Too many “adults” who have the vote exercise the judgment and maturity of bad-tempered infants. And while Red would be better-intentioned his judgement just isn’t there yet.

There’s talk of reducing the age again. To 16. Red would still be left out. Arguments that the teen brain is not fully adult are invalidated by the number of adult brains that are not fully teen.
