I remember Uncle Max. There’s a great moment when Calvin’s mother asks him if he ever had any imaginary friends, and he says, in a suddenly serious expression, “Sometimes, I think all of my friends have been imaginary.”
I remember Uncle Max and how his presence felt out of place in the world of Calvin & Hobbes as we know it. I also remember Watterson later saying his trying to broaden the family to include Uncle Max wasn’t a good idea. He doesn’t reappear after these episodes.
I thought Uncle Max was pretty level headed and cool….which was probably why he didn’t fit in.
Ah, Jiko, you are on the true path, but your trees are still mountains and your mountains are trees. In other words, you’re forgetting enough stuff that time is distorted, but soon you will forget enough stuff that all will be new again. I should know, I watched Titanic twice and was surprised both times.
I think the minute Uncle Max arrives he gets an education in the ways of the Calvin, and quips something about whether or not Calvin was let out of his cage just for his visit…
Oh really! I don’t recall the name of Uncle Max on the comic strip for C&H before. What does Uncle Max look like? Calvin has fear of Uncle Max as convict man who tries to swindle them whenever Uncle Max visits. Calvin, be prepare before your Uncle Max arrives at your house. ¡-]
ahhh that’s calvin always trying to make an adventure or mystery he’s always either making up mysteries and adventures to save/shield him from boring life or making mountains out of mole hills that’s why this perticular strip works so well it uses both of Calvins main personality traits then adds in a dash if mums sweetness and a pinch of dad’s grumpyness and bang we have a classic C&H
The reason Uncle Max is visiting based on Dad’s comments is…
A) he lost all his money in the stock market and is now homeless.
B) used to work for the banking industry, escaped jail time, and is now homeless.
C) used to work for Brewster Rocket, got laid off the strip two weeks ago, and is now homeless.
i am guessing that uncle max will be sleeping in calvins bed and that is why he is putting up all the fuss. i hate when reletives come visit and since i am the oldest i get to lose my bed. so sweet of my mom and step dad. when i am not there they have whichever room they want. so go figure.
tabbylynn, yes, oldest children often seem to get the most extra work (looking out for their youngers) and least credit. They also have to “train” their parents how children grow up best. [sigh] Not easy.
