You are correct. The only true equality is the equality of opportunity to use your merit to improve your own life for you and your family and society if able. However, in the end, there are always people who use power to oppress. It is not limited to race or sex or any other such superficial features. The oppression of others is usually based on power and control of the oppressor to aggrandize themselves.
