Thank you Wiz for the great tribute. I am a Veteran and I appreciate the sentiment. Too bad others need to make a political statement instead of just remembering and supporting those who served.
My maternal Grandfather survived World War I. He served in the Washington National Guard. (The regular U.S. Army wasn’t all that big. 80 or 90% of the American Expeditionary Force, the AEF, was made up of National Guard troops.) My Granddad was wounded on 3 November 1918, gas and shrapnel. He received his Purple Heart sometime in the 1970s. The WAR stopped, or the Armistice was on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of the year 1918. The war ended I believe around 1921 or so with the treaty of Paris. The last casualties of the war were 9 killed and 16 wounded or so of Imperial German sailors, interned with their ships at Scapa Flow, Scotland 1919, ( Germans were scuttling their ships and things got very confused with the British guard force).
My Daddy was in the Army in WWI, ready to ship out. This was his diary entry many years later: “11-11 Armistice Day, Nov, 11, 1918 – I was in Baltimore, Maryland, and all the whistles blew, guns were fired and anything that would make a racket was used. Nearly everyone was drunk, especially the soldiers, for everyone wanted to buy them a drink.”
What happened on the 11.11 11?The Armistice, an agreement to end the fighting of the First World War as a prelude to peace negotiations, began at 11am on 11 November 1918. Armistice is Latin for to stand (still) arms.
As I mentioned on Red and Rover and Breaking Cat News, my auntie Elsie was born on November 16 1916 so she turned two on the day that World War I ended. She was married to Uncle Alf who fought in World War II. She died in November 2011, a few days after we celebrated her 95th birthday with her.
Today is Veteran’s Day for all Veterans and not Memorial Day for those Vets who died in combat which is commemorated in May. Also, there is no EVIDENCE that President Trump EVER said anything negative about Veterans or those who served in the Military. Though there is ample evidence that he said many positive things about Veterans, Law Enforcement and those who serve our Country. He also kept us out of war which is one of the greatest acts a President can do for his country and those who served in the Military and will serve under his command…….
I want all you veterans who voted for t**** to remember the KIA losers and fellow suckers who served with you every time you see the fascist commander in chief you elected. You are a disgrace to their service!
He didn’t say he hates them. He was at a ceremony at the American cemetery at Normandy and he said “I don’t get it. What was in it for them?” according to General Miley. Of course that was not reported by Fox.

Remember that Veterans Day is not just about remembering those who died but about thanking and honoring those who served.

He regards people who died in the service of their country as cowards and losers, especially those who were tortured.
