Pembrook: The truth of the matter, Fox, is you've been very hard to replace. Apparently, in today's job market, people with your business skills make six times what we've been paying you. So if you've come to ask for your job back, the answer is yes. Roger: With no cut in pay?! Pembrook: Not that your business skills are flawless. Roger: Ok, ok, a little cut in pay.

All this time, I thought Pembrook was criticizing Roger for thinking he wouldn’t get a cut in pay. It occurs to me today, for the first time, that he was pointing out that Fox just missed an opportunity to snag a substantial raise, and instead played for a pay cut.
