Instead of giving to Salvation Army bell ringers, consider donating to a food pantry. Bringing in food results in 100% of your donation doing some good, no “administrative costs” being deducted. Most we be happy with a financial donation as well. I try to not support any faith based charities.
This is true. I took someone to a dollar store once and saw that, while the prices were lower, you also got much less of each product so the cost was actually more than in regular stores.

One word: laundromats. Inconvenient, unsanitary and EXPENSIVE.
