What is an allowance? I never had one, my parents could not afford it. I never missed having one, most of my friends didn’t either.

When I asked for a bigger allowance, my Mom posted a chore chart and prices she would pay for work. 25 cents to clean a bathroom, 25 cents to dust one floor, 50 cents to vacuum. I was too young for babysitting.

Her hard work doesn’t come cheap!

Over 40 years ago I made a piggy bank out of wood in my shop class. I got an A on it. I didn’t include a way to get the coins out though, aside from shaking it. My sister (she is 7 years older than me) loves pigs and I gave it to her. She still has it!

Well, she took the initiative to create a larger piggy bank in the interest of saving more money. I’d give her a small increase in order to encourage the development of those good money management skills.
