My dad did that to me when I was 16.The only present was a pack of underwear from my grandparents.

Then dad said he had hidden my gift. I snooped all thru the house and I found it! It was a red Gibson Guitar. I went to another dimension! Then he told me the speaker was somewhere in the attic. I soon found that and I was past heaven. I still remember that Christmas to this day, 60-some-odd years ago.
