I can remember when players did not throw balls to the crowd. If I remember correctly they would be fined the price of the ball. Most players when I was young did not make enough to absorb the cost so they did not do it. Now of course just about every ball fouled or caught in the outfield for the third out ends up in the stands.

Yeah. Imagine having to pay a fine for every foul ball.

Sports seem to have people who sit around making rules to make certain the enjoyment of the game will be lost…

According to the Pro Football Network, throwing a football into the stands does incur a fine. However, just giving a ball to a fan does not.

You have to understand that the NFL is always on the verge of bankruptcy. Why else do the public have to donate to charity in order to get stadiums built?
