All four of we brothers took turns, over the years, trying to explain to Mom that rechargeable cordless phone batteries needed to be replaced every couple of years. She never understood the clue when the phone would die two minutes into a conversation. This was before the prevalence of cell phones. She also did not understand the need for a plug-into-the-wall emergency phone for use during the frequent power outages in her area. She could not understand that the battery in the phone would not provide power to the base station, which would fail when the power went out.
I still rely on my land line, at least for now. I only use my cell phone when traveling or when I am out and will be ordering ride shares. I hate carrying a cell phone. I want people to call me on my land line (which has the ringer shut off) and leave a voice mail that I can ignore for days or weeks and maybe eventually return the call to their voice mail.
AT&T keeps sending me offers to replace my land line with some sort of a home-based cell phone with a modem. I imagine sooner or not-much-later they will stop land lines.
Like JLChi I rely on my landline. I prefer it as it has better sound than our wireless phones or my cell phone – and I always know exactly where it is!
Friday already??? That was a fast week. I hope everyone is enjoying the day.
Technology’s great sometimes, ain’t it? The fun never ends.
And for the record, recently I found (again) this dialogue from The Big Bang Theory …
Sheldon: “I’ve been familiarizing myself with female emotional crises by studying the comic strip ‘Cathy’. When she’s upset, she says ‘AACK’ and eats ice cream.”

My generation liked figuring them out and playing with them. And now we’re all obsessed with them.
Hello Cathy friends! Happy Friday! Have a great day, all!
