I had a tiny Pom that loved to be out in the snow. She would come in shivering like crazy. Purchased a little coat for her and she was happy as a clam. She learned that if she wanted to go outside all she had to do was bring me her coat. She’d get it put on and out she’d go!
An immigrant was told to go to the store and buy some quilted Northern. He went to the fish department and came back with trout and bread crumbs, since the area he came from called trout shore lunch ‘quilted northern’.
His host family then was thankful their guest asked for a paper bag instead of a plastic bag , since they really needed toilet paper.
We had one little Maltese mix who was always cold. She wore sweaters almost constantly from October to June. Most of the sweaters slipped on over the head — and she did not like the process of having them put on — so I learned a quick-installation technique. You stick your hand down through the neck of the dog sweater, put your hand on the dog’s head, and slide the sweater on quickly. It works.
Sometimes she would still do the cold-dog tuck when she slept, so we’d add a light blanket over her. Then she untucked a little and slept really well.

It will keep you warm, and that’s the main thing.
