Buttermilk doesn’t taste like butter at all, I expect those saying that have never actually tasted it. It’s called Buttermilk because it’s the liquid that’s left after churning the solid butter out of whole milk. It has a very tangy almost sour flavor, like kefir it’s quite a bit thicker than regular milk. It tastes a lot more like thin sour cream than like butter. I don’t care for it but then I don’t like regular milk either
