She can learn to drive if she shows responsibility. Mother should not interfere with Jane’s parenting, especially since she can’t even decide which color her hair should be. I think you need a touch up grandma.
How about she can work on learning to drive, but can’t get a driver’s license until she earns enough money to pay for the extra expense associated with a teen driver? My sons have had to drive with either Mom or Dad until they earned enough $ to pay for the increase in our insurance premium for having a teen driver. The extra hours of driving while under parental supervision has made a noticable improvement in their skills.
Why is it mandatory to allow 16 year olds to drive. If you want to kill your kids you could have aborted them. 18 is better and 21 may still be too young in our society.

Not letting her learn how to drive lets the fundamentalist muslims win, and she will be at the whim of her boy friend if he drives.

If Sydney drives, she can take Skylar places, run errands, and such (I didn’t say merrily and attitude free), leaving Jane with much more “free” time.

How about no license without a high school diploma? Cut the dropout rate, school parking problems and the teen pregnancy rate all at one blow.

Granma’s logic, there’s always something better than the best!
