I would bet anything that the cartoonist has spayed/ neutered his pets. He did not intend the cartoon to indicate that he approves of failure to protect pets. The idea of a CARTOON is that it highlights a human situation. In this case, the funny idea behind the cartoon is that the Dad is wondering how to address sex education with his son, when there is a great game on. He is wondering if he can delay the discussion until the next commercial break. If you know men, you know that the 60 second commercial break will be all he needs to explain things to his son (who will then wander in to find his mom to finish the discussion with). So this cartoon is also sad from a human perspective- but it gives us a chance to laugh at ourselves with understanding and appreciation for the cartoonist’s skill in holding up the mirror. Maybe that gentle look at ourselves helps us learn better than moralizing and finger pointing does.
maybe it’s just a comic strip ment to make you laugh. If everybody laughed a little more and didn’t analyze everything the world would be a better place. I say spay or neuter critics. Long laugh the world.

Oops…
Spay and neuter your pets, there are too many homeless animals in the world as it is.

I think Curly Girl is looking into this, and maybe other, cartoons too closely.
