Sometimes, I get reallyangry when I read this strip.

Not because I don’t like it or find it disturbing, but coz Lio almost made into my local paper…but was rejected in favor of ( Arrrgghhh! ) Peanuts reruns.

( Don’t blame the editors; the choice was made by way of a readers poll. )

As a geezer, I still read the local rag & the NY Post. If the papers go belly up, we’ll get our toons on line & in books.

I’ve always dreamed of going into a shop and finding a mask of my own face. I’m SO jealous.

Doctortoon - the majority who read comics IN PAPERS is over 50. The younger generations read them online. Like, uh, here.

    doctortoon says:

Simon I feel for you. Months ago I read that a survey showed the average age of newspaper readers is over 50 and climbing. I’m nearing 50 myself , but most people my age and older just don’t get Lio. (I love it)

I’m well above 50, I love Lio, as well as a lot of the classic comics. We don’t get a newspaper, so I read all of my comics on line. On another comics site, I’m able to read ‘Prince Valiant’ (I love the art work), ‘Bizzaro’, ‘The Phantom’, ‘Flash Gordon’, and even ‘Krazy Kat’.

I’m 60 and I get all my comics and news on-line. I’m on a rural route and the “dead tree” editions of the newspaper get soaking wet in the rain, on line is so much better! Lio is so strange that I like it, but I like most things that other 60 year olds simply don’t “get”.

My paper recently dropped its editorial cartoonists, 1/3 of its Sunday op-ed section, but the final straw was dropping Non Sequitur. I dropped it.

I would be tempted to reward a rag for dropping Non Sequitur. I’d certainly send an e-mail with kudos.

Marg: What is the other comic site you have? I love Prince Valiant, too!

i love Lio! Our paper recently cancelled him too, along with several of the better (in my humble opinion) comics. The paper must be confused because they are losing about almost 10% of their readers every year for the last couple of years. I don’t know who they are polling to see what needs to stay or go, but those people are way off base.
