Annie and Frog are reasonable guesses, but I don’t think so. The dress is wrong for Annie and I can’t find a Frog Applause like it. (No idea where 3hour gets Robin Hood out of it.)

It reminds me of a really ancient comic strip but I can’t place it. Not “Little Nemo”, but of that era. I seem to see the dress on a mischievous little girl with a huge hair bow, but a flip thru a book of historical comics came up with nothing.

    Come on, Pab, tell us!!

Nice try, milady, but some Google Imaging doesn’t back it up.

The body is Buster Brown. No deeper meaning, just a cheap gag.

Mystery solved! Google Images for “Buster Brown” shows several examples. (Sinful how they dressed boys in 1904.)

From TV ads of my childhood for Buster Brown shoes:

“I’m Buster Brown! I live in a shoe! Here’s my dog Tige! Look for him in there too!”

THANK you, Pab. Knew it looked familiar, but couldn’t quite place it without the head.
