No. Six…I was intrigued by the idea of the Prisoner reenactment, so I tried to Google up that Guardian article… but even on the paper’s own website I got 0 results.
But I did find this
PICTURE from a Guardian article, which makes no sense.(It looks so much better full size that I didn’t want to limit it to what I could paste here.)
Then I found THIS BLOG ENTRY… with pictures.
In it he says the pics were captured durng the event by the
Portmeirion Webcams … so I googled those too.
The page looks blank, but it will load (slowly) when you choose a camera.
And now…. off to bed.I know you’re already asleep…. but you’ll get back here long before I do.
Hullo Everybody! And goodnight! Long day tomorrow….
Happy Easter, Beviek…. in case you see this before you go.
I was surprised about the new Doris Day recording too — but then, it’s not the sort of music I keep up with.
Not that I dislike it, but I really don’t keep up with any music… and I mostly listen to rock oldies…. some of which… sigh…. still sound new to me, when to Number Three, they’d be Pleistocene.No. Six… glad you liked the links!BTW I checked out the Haggis Hunt link I’d posted earlier, and half the webcam locations are new.It used to be a lot more fun when there were close views, and it was all streaming…. but I think they must have had problems with people trashing cameras. and now they put them up high, and they also transmit a lower bandwidth, more static stream.
Anyway…. I didn’t mean to leave anyone out of the Easter Greetings, but it’s a bit early…Just trying to catch Beviek while I can!So Happy Three-Days-Before-Easter to the rest of you!
Eldo – you sound so much better! I’m really glad.Hope the kitty is too. Also want to apologise cos I’m waaaay behind on my e-mail…I didn’t even comment on today’s (well, by now I mean yesterday’s — April 4th) strips, except Brevity, which I really try to do every day.
Number Three — “Pleistocene is the geological epoch which lasted from about 2,588,000 to 11,700 years ago, spanning the world’s recent period of repeated glaciations.”That’s from Wikipedia. In other words, Earth during the last few Ice Ages. But the reason I used it for my musical era is that’s when modern humans arose. When archeologists say “modern man” they don’t mean the ones who had iPads or even skyscrapers; they mean things like walking upright and using tools. But still cave men. LOL
BTW Number Three I meant that when I listen to The Rolling Stones, or even Elvis Costello or the Ramones, from the 1990’s, I know it’s considered “oldies” music…But…. Barenaked Ladies or the Pixies or anything else from this millenium still sounds new-ish to my ears…. and I have to realise some of it is almost as old as you!
Eldo – LOL — just re-read my post. Actually that was a typo… I meant to say “from the 1970’s!”Elvis Costello is still around now, though re-inventing himself every so often, and the Stones have come back to life so many times, they might be zombies….but I meant the heyday of them all… the 70’s.Though “my” era was The Beatles, The Stones, Traffic and Cream, “My Aim is True” was stunning… and I think Elvis Costello is one of the best songwriters ever.Funny cos I was just posting about mostly earlier 1970’s bands on Brevity last night and today, cos the strip featured Pink Floyd, and I wasn’t a fan.I also love 50’s rock and rock-a-billy.
Number Six… silly me! I should have known where you were! And Tom Baker was the best! When someone says “Dr. Who” he’s the one who comes to mind.Or should that be he’s the one Who comes to mind…he’s the Who who comes…to… never mind.Number Three… your avatar cracked me up.Very basic, for anyone who doesn’t get it.And Eldo — just a heads up to check your e-mail!
Wow…. this has been a busy place.I’m eager to start watching all the Prisoner Eps – I enjoyed the taste the other day, jogging my memory…. and there is such a fount of information here on this forum… backstories, casting, etc.No. Six, I’ll have to check out that post of which Beviek speaks. I added FA to my page a few weeks ago, but… sigh… seldom get there…But I’m sorry you knew people like that as a child.Like Beviek, I’ve never understood how anyone can not feel protective of smaller, helpless beings.Sometimes misguided caretakers really believe what they do is *for your own good." That would include those like my father who constantly physically and verbally abuse their own children in the name of guidance….but even he would never have tortured us for sport or amusement!
BTW Same goes for me in re pictures. I’m becoming disillusioned with Photobucket. I’ve been away for Easter, only have made a few quick posts via phone since Saturday night or perhaps Easter noontime…and neither your old photo ( I assume) nor your drawing is visible,
Beviek, I’m glad your trip was fun.I’m sure I left out a reply here or there, but I’m very tired…. a few more comics and I plan to have what passes for an early night, these days, which means bed at 2 or 2:30 instead of 4am.Gotta get out of this cycle!G’night, all!
I love those Magic Eye images.I have an old book of them… well, “old” being a relative term… maybe 1982.
Several years ago I found a website with the most amazing stereograms I’ve ever seen, but I lost both the link and the images I’d saved when that computer crashed… still hoping to recover that hard drive, and also to find the site again…. if I could only remember the name.
A hint for looking at the ones Number 6 posted:
Open MS Paint, or whatever you have that is similar.
Right-click the image, select copy" or “copy image” and “paste” it into Paint.
Then you can enlarge it till it’s the right size to work with your eyes. 150% works for me for the ones Six posted.
(If you’re unfamiliar with it, “Paint” is included, under “Accessories,” in the “All Programs” menu of the Windows Start menu. I always make a shortcut to it and keep it in my taskbar. It’s convenient for doodling and also comes in handy for enlarging comics, avatars, and web images.)Anyway, viewing stereo images sucessfully depends partially on how well the dots in the picture “fit” the distance your eyes “wander” from each other when the muscles relax. So if you have trouble converging the images, go to the “resize” menu in Paint and experiment. If something here doesn’t make sense or you have a question let me know. And if you’re on a Mac, the program is something else … McPaint?
Beviek, my husband and I were “together” for only 3 and a half years, but remained business partners for another 6 or 8 years, and then stayed best friends till he died in 94.We were young when we met, and I was always close to his parents. His father died in 97, but I still visit his mother, and his brothers and their families. In fact I’m leaving town again in a couple of days to go stay with my MIL while other family is away. Seems like a sort of “California story” to some people — but they’re family to me.
Eldo; it’s just my own messed up sleep cycle. Trying to get over it, but being an internet addict doesn’t help! Then the fact that I’m on the West Coast (you are too, didn’t you post somewhere aawhile back?) means that I’m already 3 hours behind the East Coasters…. so when I get around to answering them, they’ve left the building, so to speak.Of course, Nos Six and Three, and Lady Shades, if she would show up, are almost completely round the clock from me!
Beviek — thanks for your comment on today’s/now yesterday’s Brevity….. too late to say it there now. And yes, if I want to expand a comic, I just open Paint from my taskbar, magnify, if available, right-click that image (better resolution than unmagnified,) and “copy” and “paste” into Paint.(Takes more time to read this than do it.)Depending on your version of Windows, there’s a magnifier tool or a slider bar for a quick, easy enlargement. For finer adjustment, like 150% for No 6’s Magic Eye pics, there’s a “resize” menu. People are always posting advice to use control + in your browser, but that messes up ALL your open windows, and it takes longer to get it all back than to just use Paint.Besides, in FireFox the default for Ctrl + is to expand text only, which is great; to enlarge pictures you have to change the setting, and remember to change it back.Firefox is best anyway for older eyes like mine, cos making the text bigger enlarges it in this box, as well…. which IE doesn’t.
Six and Eldo, you guys are amazing. I don’t think I’ve ever known that much about any TV show or movie. Now I gotta watch so I can use all the information! And Eldo, yeah — all my music! To me, the 60’s and 70’s are somehow more like several decades…. music, clothes and lifestyles changed radically several times.Early 60’s, early rock, Elvis, tweed skirts, penny loafers, American Bandstand…including Bobby Darin whom we discussed. Mid 60’s, the rise of the Beatles and the Stones and some of the groups you mentioned Late 60’s was tie dye and bell bottoms, most of the heavy hitters like Traffic and Cream, the Who, the Kinks, going on into the early 70’s….and by the LATE 70’s I was wearing and selling vintage clothes, and listening to Elvis Costello, the Ramones, Cars, Devo, Talking Heads, and a lot more. But I also still love Buddy Holly, Gene Vincent, etc from the late 50’s… my first records of my own, before my teens.Babysat FOUR hours to buy a 45..
Beviek and Number Three (warning, guys…. girl talk! LOL) I’m even older than Beviek (yikes!) … on Monday I’ll be double digits… that’s why I told Six my birthday was very Six-ish.I have a ton of hair, less than I once did, but more than most people still. It’s wavy and thick… formerly almost black, but now turning grey, of course…so (shhh don’t tell anybody!) I keep it a dark reddish brown that shines redder in the sun…and I wear it hanging down my back (and all over the place) the same as ever. The ends touch my waist if I stretch them but don’t hang that long on their own — maybe the middle of my back.I keep asking my friends if I’m too old and they say “Don’t cut it!” I’m a haircutter, among other things, though I can’t work at it full time any more cos I hurt my hands…and my clients like to see that you don’t have to wear an “old lady” style just cos the calendar says you’re a “senior citizen.”So, No. Three, wear your hair however suits you…. you’ll have plenty of time to look older later… if you want to!
Running out the door any minute… not much time to post.Back to the MIL’s for 3 days… should have some internet access but less time than usual. Thanks all for the links…and before I go I just had to post one of MY all time favorite commercials… also PG Tips. I know, I know…. it’s modern, and the old ones are cooler… but I think they did such a good job for the monkey coming back.
Funny you guys were recently discussing “The Arrival” and this is called “THE RETURN”
It’s hard to find PG Tips here, but I always have to, cos it’s my favorite tea.We don’t have the commercials … I think I was looking for the tea online, and ran into a link to one.By now I’ve watched quite a few.
Beviek! Warning: TrueCanadianLiberal" is a crazy person!
I don’t even like to write that here cos I know anybody can follow my profile, but I’ll try to make ten more comments elsewhere just so I can tell you.
He’ll make rational comments sometimes then fly off the handle for NO reason.
On Dinette Set, some of us like to say “Good Morning Crustwoodians!” or something similar.
One day he showed up out of the clear blue sky, and threatened me, (and only me,) with the comment that if he heard that phrase from me one more time he’d jump through cyberspace and strangle me.

Mind you I’d never “spoken” to him or even read his comments anywhere that I remembered and AFAIK he’d never posted on that strip.
A few people responded to him and he came back and tried to defend what he’d said. I saved the conversation, his part in which has since mostly been deleted (presumably flagged) as text and in a screen shot.
I’m not at home so I can’t look for it.
Anyway, I don’t like flagging or censorship, but in this case, yes, I flagged him … and I even wrote an e-mail to GoComics, bringing their attention to his comments.
It’s not that I was afraid or that he upset me… I’m pretty impervious, and I can distiguish empty online threats from reality.
But I was afraid he’d attack somebody vulnerable, who might be very upset or even somehow believe he could do harm.I also followed his profile off and on for a few days just to see whether he was being aggressive everywhere — but his outbursts seemed infrequent.
I do consider him a serious troll, though, as he can be very vicious with no warning.
I saw enough of that on Comics.com… we had a couple of nasty trolls who really had a few posters upset. Some turned the Luann board into a war zone, and some others made poor Mark Parisi shut down comments for months.
There was one guy posting under several names who even threatened a gay fellow, a well known poster on Luann, that “they” knew where he lived, and were going to go to the police and accuse him of horrid crimes, which “they” spelled out but I won’t.
A small group of us, who remain online friends, eventually worked behind the scenes with a couple of cartoonists to get them banned.I’m not sorry for my part in it… free speech is something I really believe in, but threats and nasty name-calling are not part of it.
Meanwhile here I sit in a totally uncomfortable chair in my mother-in-law’s house, where I don’t usually stay this long on the computer. It’s 2am and I should be in bed so I’m sure to get up first… oh well. And I still have to do 10 more comments if I can!Well, nine now. LOL.There are no speakers on her PC so I can’t hear any links till Monday…unless I listen to the ones that will work on my phone …. but I probably won’t have time.G’night all!
beviek. You’re welcome, Madam!I’ve been busy organizing my election campaign, but I took time out to lend you my support. You’ll be voting for me of course!
Sorry to be missing…. I’ve been having a hard time finding enough time to do comics while out of town…. to say nothing ofit being an uncomfortable set-up.
About to drive home (30 miles or so) and should be able to get back here later.Long day tomorrow, though.
Six — I’m so glad if I helped in some way!! Can’t wait to see those strips but it’ll have to be once I’m home.

I think your Avatar is really nice. I don’t know which one stands out more.. The black or the white.
I’ve only watched The Prisoner five times.
I love Patrick McGoohan! He’s one of the best actors I’ve seen in a LONG time.

I’m not sure when I should watch The Prisoner again. I may watch it tomorrow…. Well the first episode anyway.
I love Arrival… When he asked for a bigger map, the map looked pretty basic and easy to understand.
