Thanks for the info re. depression glass and Wikipedia. I looked it up, it brought back memories.
I remember the theatre owner would hand out a piece to each of us. My Mum was keen of getting a complete set.
In those days, We would see a cartoon, then a newsreel then the first movie, then a cartoon then another movie then a cartoon. And all for the equivalent of $0.25 US.
In addition to what Avemaria said, new things were very hard to get. So one thing people did was melt different colored glass together if they needed new glass and had something they couldn’t salvage otherwise.
It was really very pretty. My grandmother had some depression glass.
Seems like they had lots of little bubbles inside of the glass - gave it a hand-blown look, instead of a factory mass production look. I could be wrong - my parents grew up in the Depression, not me.

Wikipedia has a good short description of Depression Glass. And yes, they are very collectible.
However, the joke is a bit too specialized to really work.

Interesting comments. I’m easily old enough to remember Depression Glass but don’t for some reason.
Fast forward: The way things are going, today’s glass might end up valuable era collectables tomorrow. Hang on to those beer mugs and ashtrays!
