Fellow I knew in college got a visit from the FBI, FCC and FAA when he was 14.
Seems his home built model rocket launch was picked up by NORAD, and the radio transmitter he used to track it was unlicensed. And it landed two states away from where he launched it.
Amazing how much thrust kerosine and LOX produces.
