Your humble correspondent must report that her bike ride was cut suddenly short when her back tire blew up. Since I have Slime in both tires, there was green Slime everywhere. I have no idea what happened. Tire was fine for 6 miles. I stopped at my spot for a big drink, got back on the bike, went about 12 feet, and POP. I did fall ,but my left palm took the brunt of it. Cell phone didn’t work, so I walked to a house and called from there, and my dear husband came and got me. I must report that a guy in a pickup truck turned around and asked if he could help when he saw me moving the bike along on the front tire. Back where I lived before, no one would have stopped.
My husband has taken my bike to are bike repair shop, and we’ll find out what happened.
~~~
Cleo’s lake is looking good today, so you might want to grab your rafts or kayaks and head over there for a while later.
Cleo: CCR will be playing here in July. You might want to visit your buddy in Prescott then.
I don’t know how much the tickets will be, they go on sale tomorrow.
I’m glad that you weren’t seriously hurt marg. I think back to my accident everytime I go down a hill. I am not as confident a rider as I was before the fall. Slime will work with punctures to a degree, but yeah, with a blow out all you get is a frame covered in green goop.
Cleo: I thnk God that I wasn’t going down a hill. Back in IL, I was going down a steep hill, when a dog ran right in front of me. I flew over the handle bars, and had a meeting of the minds with the asphault. This was before helmets were in wide use. Luckily my brow bone took the impact. This was on a country road, and a man with a station wagon (remember those?) drove by and put me and the bike in the wagon, and drove me home. I was bleeding like a stuck pig, and did require stitches. I ruined the man’s white handkerchief (remember those?) and so we bought him some new ones and took them over to his house and thanked him again. As far as I know the dog was OK. He disappeared. He had been running back and forth along side the road for some time. A sheriff’s deputy stopped and asked me if it was my dog. I told him it wasn’t, and he just drove away. Shortly after the dog ran in front of me.
marg, I always worry about my wife on our bike rides. She does well, but every once in a while her ankle will give out and she won’t realize it until it is to late. I am amazed at how adept I have become at dismounting my bike and catching her and her bike before she hits the ground, but I am not always fast enough. She has fallen several times and survived with only scrapes and bruise, but I worry. And she refuses to compromise her riding. She will not be put off by her limitations. It is good, because she lives life to the fullest that she possible can.
There’s a li’l ol’ outdoor burger joint in Sarasota, F-L-A called The Hob-Nob.
Vintage ’50s drive-up cafe. Fabulous food & great ambience - except during summer months (right about now, come to think of it - oh yes, it’s hot enough to fry an egg on the s/w).
DigF, when I first met my wife she was going through a divorce in which her husband was used to having a wife who he could ski with, bike with and hike with. My wife was in so much pain she could not do any of those things. At the time we considered a two person bike. But we decided to see if she could ride her old bike with me walking at her side and she could. It turns out a lot of the pain was stress related because of her divorce. I am also very comfortable about riding slowly to be with her and to hike leisurely so she can experience trails again, as well. Now, she can allow her “do it myself” side to resume it’s former stronghold. She would not want to give up her independence for a two person bike. In the future possibly, but she would rather risk a fall than ride with another person, at this point. We have talked about getting a two person kayak though.
Hi tribe! I’m back for now. There is a tornado watch out until 10pm, so I may be hiding in our basement if they call a warning for our area. I hope the IP tower doesn’t get struck by lightning this time, because if it does, it will probably be Monday before they fix it.
marg Sounds like you had a nasty experience with that bike. I’m glad people were willing to help. It is difficult riding on our gravel roads, but if we move into a town, I’m thinking of getting one of those granny trikes to ride. (I like the large seats!)
Well, cleo Frank Baum picked Kansas for a reason! Since I’ve only lived in tornado alley, it doesn’t really bother me. The actual odds of getting hit by a tornado aren’t huge. The meteorologists and storm spotters do a wonderful job. But I’ve seen enough of the damage one can do, to not take the threat lightly, either. I’d rather live with tornadoes, than about any other natural disaster type, because if one neighborhood gets hit, the surrounding areas are unscathed and quite willing to help out. The ice storms are more of a pain - too slick to drive somewhere else, electricity is usually out, and everyone else nearby is in the same condition. But hey - if you don’t like the weather, just wait a little and it will change! (Right now sunny with white puffy clouds, winds gusting to 40 mph, upper 80’s - when the storm rolls in, the temps will drop about 30 degrees, hail up to 3 inches, torrential rains, lightning, and tornadoes some place in the area. We can have all 4 seasons in one day!)
@RRAmom, some years back, we had a very hot day, upper 90s, and when the thunderstorm rolled in, it was intense. Temp dropped at least 40 or 50 degrees, winds came up suddenly. We had a car in the parking lot, and of course it was hot inside from the sun. When the frigid rain hit the windows, it blew out both passenger side windows–only there was no glass left in the car. We can only guess, but we think the hot/cold stresses in the glass exploded it outwards and over the car, so it ended up 50 or 100 feet downwind of the car.
On the other hand, you have a chance to see some remarkable sights. I can remember lots of double rainbows, including one that was only to the north side, since I was on the south edge of the rain. A double half rainbow!
Or sundogs so bright they form a complete circle, with spectrums visible at the brightest points.
Or a comet with its tail spread across 90 degrees of the night sky.
That makes up for any number of tornadoes, ice storms, and blizzards, especially since other places have hurricanes, or mudslides, or something.
I have seen a double rainbow sitting in my hot tub on a non eventful day and I will take that over extreme conditions anyday. The thing about the Pacific Northwest is that nothing is dramatic. The weather is almost always so so. If it rains it kind of wets you down, but doesn’t drench you. So , unless you have sunshine, it’s kind of boring. But, you get a few eventful storms a year and that’s when you look out. Even though I live on both a stream and lake, it would take a biblical flood to effect me because I live on the hill. But, you will all see that when you join me tonight for a bbq and fire pit adventure of ghost stories and hot coffee drinks. Don’t get me started on my real, honest to God, ghost story. Well, I have mowed, edge and used the weed eater. Now I need to go out and rake.
RMom stay safe. I grew up in FL so I was used to watching out for hurricanes, but can prepare for those. Now that I live in GA, tornadoes scare me. I’m glued to the tv (hoping the satellite won’t give out) making sure I’m not in the path.
marg I did see your comment from last night. Before I post in the morning I catch up, but afterwards I don’t look back. I missed him falling down (cat jumped on me at the same time), so now I’ll have to re-watch some of it this weekend.
Aww, DigitalFrog- You took the words out of my mouth.
I’m not sure where all of you are, as I’m a Canuck, but I was in New Orleans in April for a rebuild, and I must say I like the hospitallity down south, even in the midst of hardship (in the ninth ward anyways.)
RRAmom: Do not like tornados. Lived in IL for 55 years, and every spring we worried.
Here we have dust devils and forest fires, but we don’t live in a forested area. Dust devils are mini whirlwinds. I hope that the tornado stays far away from you.
Tabby, that is cool that Ana’s b-day is the day after mine. October is by and large the best month to be born in, especially if you live up north where the leaves change in the fall– an absolutely beautiful month. My younger twin sisters were born on the 14th of February.
so im back, playing catch up. i spent about 5 hours of my life cleaning my car. wow. who new that it would be so bad. it sat and did nothing for 2 years and now it is great. just need to get everything taken care of and get it on the road.
Hey, all. Back from the grind in cubeland and glad to be. Pretty jealous of Cleo’s neighborhood right now. May stop by the pit later just to unwind.
Congrats, Tabby…more on the car, please?!
RRAmom I grew up in Iowa & worked in Lawrence for about 3 1/2 years before moving east. I’ll also take the tornadoes over the hurricanes we’ve been under warnings about the last couple of years. Oh - and in response to “…unless it was pre-school”…it wasn’t - 2nd grade, though.
bmonk Interesting tale of the windows. I hope there were no serious injuries.
marg Glad you survived with minor injuries & that you have such a thoughtful sweetie.
all Have a great evening. Will try to stop back later. P&L
Cleo do you miss your wife? its so cute. she is gone and all you do is talk about her. i dont mind i think it is so so super sweet. your making me smile. (im on the two person bike part right now)
shikamoo I have seen your posts several times today, but not before. Welcome. Where abouts in Canada are you from? I used to spend my summers in Alberta and I went to college in Vancouver.
Yes Tabbylynn I do miss my wife. This will be the longest seperation since we began living on the lake. I have talked to her twice today and she is having a great time on the ocean with friends she has know way longer than me. It helps having a sunny day here. it keeps it from being depressing. Thanks for asking.
okay so it is a 1994 Camry it is black and brown right now. 4 doors back seat sitting on the trailer right now bc i forgot to put it back in. it is nice and i love it. happy to have a car.
Akenta you could always move to LA and we could visit each other. bring the cats! lol
Marg so very glad you are okay. thank goodness. if not we would have never known.
all we need some way to tell everyone if somthing was to happen to us. wow. could you imagin not knowing something was wrong? it would kill me. any ideas?
Hijole, there’s no much to catch up on. Here goes:
Marg, I’m so glad that you did not seriously injure yourself.
Tabby, what kind of card is it??
JDoc, My youngest daughter, Rebekah was born on Oct 30. YEA!
Cleo, I’m sure your wife misses you bunches also.
RRAmom Stay safe. I’m sending good energy and vibes your way. (Doc usually takes care of that, but he’s not here.)
bmomk, WOW, I did not know that could happen to the car windows.
Shikamoo MB, that is so wonderful for you to help out in NOLA. Southerners are known for their hospitality.
Hello, DF, Rad, Akenta, and dcguys! Hope I didn’t miss any one. :)
tabbylynn I have thought of the same thing. I have been thinking of telling my wife that if something should happen to me, to come on to Big Top and let you all know. It is tough when somebody disappears and you have no idea why. By the way…hello Joy.
I am sitting down in the sun on my deck drinking a mojito. When you arrive, protocol is for me to make your first cocktail, from then on out, you know where the liquor is, help yourselves.
Cleo idk who i would tell they all will think im crazy. maybe my brother since he seems to know all of my passwords. :/ idk. glad im not the only one to worry about that.
new comers welcome! enjoy the party just now politics and keep it nice.. (wow i sound like Doc there, he would be proud :D )
Thanks to all for your concern. The line of thunderstorms is heading my way, so I’m going to quit BT for tonight, and keep a close eye on the weather.
I’ve got to get up early (for me) tomorrow and head to the city to try and sell my used homeschooling curriculum, so I won’t be back until Saturday afternoon or evening. At least we have a basement, so we should be safe.
P.S. As long as you like where you live, that’s what’s important. I couldn’t handle having a lot of overcast days, especially in a row. With the exception of tabby, I think we’re all old enough to have moved to a different area if we really wanted to. Bloom where you’re planted!
Have a good evening RMom. Our crew is diminishing rapidly. I foresee no records broken tonight for posts. But, I will be checking in for any that chance to visit.
cleo I’m sitting in a vendor’s meeting right now. But the weather is gorgeous! It is soon to be rum & Coke time! I will raise the Jolly Roger as soon as I can!
Dry you are always on the top of my mind, but I have been so busy today that I have only been able to respond to people actually present and accounted for. So, hello sweet lady, welcome back.
Dry i have it here waiting for you. Sashay on up to the bar and I will serve it with a smile and a back rub. I have healing hands as my wife likes to say.
cleo and can I have some nachos with lots of cheese and jalapenos, heated, please! I’m gonna make you guys pay! Wait on me hand and foot for this evening and I’ll let you off the hook! Maybe!
JFri I’ll take a nice smoked salmon with asparagus!
Akenta yea my e-mail is working for the moment, notice I said for the moment! Which ticks me off, because we are waiting on an e-mail for on campus housing for my kid!
hey Tabby..I read you got A new car…I have been an automotive diagnostician for over 35 years..both electrical and mechanical…befor you commit to any eventual repairs feel free to pick my brain for info as to wether the repairs being recommended are proper …also I do work for A major repair chain and can get you a discount (or any one else who may need it)..please all feel free to pick my brain…I aint the best and dont know it all …but if I dont know I can find domeone who does and good evening to all you yappy tribesmen/women
Dry, if you bring the chips, I have the jalapenos and cheese and I have homemade salsa, I will whip you up some great nachos. I have been a good boy so I stay away from chips.
Dry I have started the fire in my pit and the sun is sitting on the top of the mountain to the west. I have your cocktail ready and a nice comfortable spot to sit. The place I have put you will serve as a chair or recline to a lounger. Your choice my dear.
most of the comics I read here don’t get many posts. I like the ones were the artists post too - it’s nice to hear what they have to say (most of the time).
jFri, stop by. I have Bacardi light or Meyers, depending on what you prefer. Bring the coke and we are set. I am becoming a advocate for avoiding high fructose corn syrup, so I don’t stock anything that contains it, except my one last hold out, which my wife is trying to wean me from, Heinz catsup.
cleo heading down your drive now with smoked salmon, asparagus (Dry) & Coke Zero! Loooong frickin’ day again. Tomorrow show only goes ‘til 3:00 & then break down the booth! PNW Fire & Rescue Expo in case someone wants to know why I have to work on Saturday!
Dry sorry you had a bad day… what happened to the venting?
jfri if you were on here while at the meating your so bad. how did you know it was boring if you were messing with us??? lol
Akenta sorry i missed you
Dcguys love the “hugs and handshakes all around” that was great. never heard that one b4.
Jdoc hi buddy. i was starting to think i was talking to myself… okay so sometimes… not all the times…. omg what are you talking about i dont talk to myself….. gosh… stupid voices. :D :P
so i am so losing my mind i found this on a cormmicial…. http://www.pull-upspottyproject.com
I’m glad that you weren’t seriously hurt marg. I think back to my accident everytime I go down a hill. I am not as confident a rider as I was before the fall. Slime will work with punctures to a degree, but yeah, with a blow out all you get is a frame covered in green goop.
Cleo: I thnk God that I wasn’t going down a hill. Back in IL, I was going down a steep hill, when a dog ran right in front of me. I flew over the handle bars, and had a meeting of the minds with the asphault. This was before helmets were in wide use. Luckily my brow bone took the impact. This was on a country road, and a man with a station wagon (remember those?) drove by and put me and the bike in the wagon, and drove me home. I was bleeding like a stuck pig, and did require stitches. I ruined the man’s white handkerchief (remember those?) and so we bought him some new ones and took them over to his house and thanked him again. As far as I know the dog was OK. He disappeared. He had been running back and forth along side the road for some time. A sheriff’s deputy stopped and asked me if it was my dog. I told him it wasn’t, and he just drove away. Shortly after the dog ran in front of me.
marg, I always worry about my wife on our bike rides. She does well, but every once in a while her ankle will give out and she won’t realize it until it is to late. I am amazed at how adept I have become at dismounting my bike and catching her and her bike before she hits the ground, but I am not always fast enough. She has fallen several times and survived with only scrapes and bruise, but I worry. And she refuses to compromise her riding. She will not be put off by her limitations. It is good, because she lives life to the fullest that she possible can.
There’s a li’l ol’ outdoor burger joint in Sarasota, F-L-A called The Hob-Nob. Vintage ’50s drive-up cafe. Fabulous food & great ambience - except during summer months (right about now, come to think of it - oh yes, it’s hot enough to fry an egg on the s/w).
Cleo Maybe a bicycle built for two is in the future?
cleokaya over 15 years ago
DigF, when I first met my wife she was going through a divorce in which her husband was used to having a wife who he could ski with, bike with and hike with. My wife was in so much pain she could not do any of those things. At the time we considered a two person bike. But we decided to see if she could ride her old bike with me walking at her side and she could. It turns out a lot of the pain was stress related because of her divorce. I am also very comfortable about riding slowly to be with her and to hike leisurely so she can experience trails again, as well. Now, she can allow her “do it myself” side to resume it’s former stronghold. She would not want to give up her independence for a two person bike. In the future possibly, but she would rather risk a fall than ride with another person, at this point. We have talked about getting a two person kayak though.
Hi tribe! I’m back for now. There is a tornado watch out until 10pm, so I may be hiding in our basement if they call a warning for our area. I hope the IP tower doesn’t get struck by lightning this time, because if it does, it will probably be Monday before they fix it.
Smiley Rmom over 15 years ago
marg Sounds like you had a nasty experience with that bike. I’m glad people were willing to help. It is difficult riding on our gravel roads, but if we move into a town, I’m thinking of getting one of those granny trikes to ride. (I like the large seats!)
Well, I just mowed the lawn. Now it is time for edging, weed eating and raking. See you in a few.
cleokaya over 15 years ago
Hi Joy, we are thinking of you.
Smiley Rmom over 15 years ago
Well, cleo Frank Baum picked Kansas for a reason! Since I’ve only lived in tornado alley, it doesn’t really bother me. The actual odds of getting hit by a tornado aren’t huge. The meteorologists and storm spotters do a wonderful job. But I’ve seen enough of the damage one can do, to not take the threat lightly, either. I’d rather live with tornadoes, than about any other natural disaster type, because if one neighborhood gets hit, the surrounding areas are unscathed and quite willing to help out. The ice storms are more of a pain - too slick to drive somewhere else, electricity is usually out, and everyone else nearby is in the same condition. But hey - if you don’t like the weather, just wait a little and it will change! (Right now sunny with white puffy clouds, winds gusting to 40 mph, upper 80’s - when the storm rolls in, the temps will drop about 30 degrees, hail up to 3 inches, torrential rains, lightning, and tornadoes some place in the area. We can have all 4 seasons in one day!)
Smiley Rmom over 15 years ago
Have any of you cat people seen Drabble today? http://comics.com/drabble/
bmonk over 15 years ago
@RRAmom, some years back, we had a very hot day, upper 90s, and when the thunderstorm rolled in, it was intense. Temp dropped at least 40 or 50 degrees, winds came up suddenly. We had a car in the parking lot, and of course it was hot inside from the sun. When the frigid rain hit the windows, it blew out both passenger side windows–only there was no glass left in the car. We can only guess, but we think the hot/cold stresses in the glass exploded it outwards and over the car, so it ended up 50 or 100 feet downwind of the car.
On the other hand, you have a chance to see some remarkable sights. I can remember lots of double rainbows, including one that was only to the north side, since I was on the south edge of the rain. A double half rainbow!
Or sundogs so bright they form a complete circle, with spectrums visible at the brightest points.
Or a comet with its tail spread across 90 degrees of the night sky.
That makes up for any number of tornadoes, ice storms, and blizzards, especially since other places have hurricanes, or mudslides, or something.
cleokaya over 15 years ago
I have seen a double rainbow sitting in my hot tub on a non eventful day and I will take that over extreme conditions anyday. The thing about the Pacific Northwest is that nothing is dramatic. The weather is almost always so so. If it rains it kind of wets you down, but doesn’t drench you. So , unless you have sunshine, it’s kind of boring. But, you get a few eventful storms a year and that’s when you look out. Even though I live on both a stream and lake, it would take a biblical flood to effect me because I live on the hill. But, you will all see that when you join me tonight for a bbq and fire pit adventure of ghost stories and hot coffee drinks. Don’t get me started on my real, honest to God, ghost story. Well, I have mowed, edge and used the weed eater. Now I need to go out and rake.
Akenta over 15 years ago
RMom stay safe. I grew up in FL so I was used to watching out for hurricanes, but can prepare for those. Now that I live in GA, tornadoes scare me. I’m glued to the tv (hoping the satellite won’t give out) making sure I’m not in the path.
marg I did see your comment from last night. Before I post in the morning I catch up, but afterwards I don’t look back. I missed him falling down (cat jumped on me at the same time), so now I’ll have to re-watch some of it this weekend.
Thanks to all for your concern. The line of thunderstorms is heading my way, so I’m going to quit BT for tonight, and keep a close eye on the weather. I’ve got to get up early (for me) tomorrow and head to the city to try and sell my used homeschooling curriculum, so I won’t be back until Saturday afternoon or evening. At least we have a basement, so we should be safe. P.S. As long as you like where you live, that’s what’s important. I couldn’t handle having a lot of overcast days, especially in a row. With the exception of tabby, I think we’re all old enough to have moved to a different area if we really wanted to. Bloom where you’re planted!
