Morning, Tribe. Bagels today after the feast yesterday. Doc has the coffee all set up to brew. I did bring some left over dim sum for those who like to start their day with a BBQ pork bun.
Thanks, Marg for the breakfast! Sounds great!
Did you read about the fight last night? Unfortunatley I had to leave early and missed the main part.
I heard it was quite a war.
Good morning and Happy Monday. It’s one of my mandatory vacation days, so I decided to see if I could sleep in. The cats tried their best to get me up but then they gave up.
Good morning all! Had a stressful day yesterday. My dog Cleo was very odd yesterday, pacing all day, shaking, dazed and slow. I don’t know if she suffered a stroke or if she got into something. Just before our company got here, she seemed to instantly come out of it, except for teeth clacking. She hasn’t gotten up yet this morning & her hearing was bad yesterday too, so she hasn’t heard me.
Fortunately, not all of our company that was expected arrived and those that did came in the evening instead of the original idea of coming for the whole day.
I have been having an ongoing battle with a contractor who built are stairs down to the lake. After a year of trying to get him to come and put a proper stain on the railings he finally sent his son after my wife threatened to report him to the better business bureau. His son did a poor application and there are many bare spots. Now, I have to get him to finish the job.
I barely slept last night. Sorry to spill out my troubles.
cleo, that’s what we are here for! Could Cleo have gotten into some type of poison? Has she eaten anything since this happened? Are you going to call the vet today?
Let me know what happens. Positive energy coming your way!
And I think I would make that guy come back and do a proper job or do report them to the BBB!
When you’re stressed its a bad time to have company. Its good they weren’t there the whole day!
Good Morning everyone, and dcguys’ right. Is isn’t a chat room, it’s a forum. Chat rooms are where you talk with everyone on line live. Forums (like this one) is where you post your comments, wait a while, then come back to see if any one has responeded to your remarks. I find this to be much better than chat rooms. I haven’t been in one of those in five years.
Aw, the “guy with boot on head” was so original too!
Good Morning Yappy Nuts!
Yukoneric, Welcome. I too have enjoyed your comments on various comics here. Don’t worry about the time zone, we are from all different time zones too.
gmartin997, I just saw your comment on my local news website. Your comment was NICE there, you even put LOL after your comment. BTW, that isn’t a chat room either.
Cleo, I hope your pooch will be okay. I agree with Dry, take your pooch to the vet. Good thoughts and vibes for all of you! Also, you shouldn’t have to correct the contractor’s mess. Call him and tell him to fix HIS mess.
Dry - Yes, Cleo has eaten. My wife is a nurse and she will assess the situation today. At first I thought that she might have gotten into something like anti - freeze, but the symptoms have seemed more neurological. I am thinking it might have been a stroke. My last dog Kaya, had several strokes before she died and while the symptoms weren’t identical they were reminiscent of them.
Cleo seems pretty good this morning. Instead of letting her do her usual visiting, we have kept her close to home. I just got back from taking her for a walk and she did well.
@tabby, going back and catching up on comments I missed, I was reminded of another stupid sequence that was spoken in court:
LAWYER: You signed the death certificate? PATHOLOGIST: Yes.
L: Before you signed the certificate, did you take his pulse?
P: No.
L: Did you check to see if he was breathing?
P: No.
L: Did you listen for his heartbeat?
P: No.
L: Well, how could you be sure he was dead?
P: I’ve got his brain in a jar on my desk, but I guess he could be walking around practicing law somewhere.
Speaking of sideshows, I haven’t been since I was a kid. I would imagine that they would be more politically correct now. But then how could it still be bizarre?
cleo, that last one I saw had a “giant” horse. It was a Clydesdale. Neeeeiggggghh!
BTW, did anybody see Pickles? Jor-el, said that one of the “Tribe” could probably come up with a better punchline than Opal. Any takers?
RL intrudes, and I must be away from here longer than I’d like.
I left a comment on B.C. rather tame. I think I’m still water-logged!
@bmonk: Taffy woman found the show stretched her beyond her capabilities.
((((((Cleo))))) That’s for the dog Cleo. This one’s for you: ((((hug)))). Isn’t there medication for strokes? I know that asprin is poisonous to dogs.
Hope that you draw from the bank today, and I hope that you get the stairs and railings done properly. Call his bluff and call BBB if he thinks he can get away with shoddy work.
DRY, Carmy, Dawn, Akenta et al, I’ve got two buckets- how many do you have?
JFri; Is that what thoses trials were for? My mom had a book written by a German doctor who described some of the “experiments” they did on women. It is scary the depths that humanity will sink to sometimes. So Sad.
But why did you bring up the subject? I missed something.
Shika - stroke medication for humans has to be given within a very short time frame after the onset of the stroke. Something like within the first two hours or so. I don’t know about meds for dogs.
I can’t resist making a deposit in the bank for Cleo & cleo. Hope all is well. Shika can stop worrying, although I doubt she will. I think that little bout of…ummm…weirdness has left me.
DOC, get out of your dressing room and make a funny for Pickles!
Akenta, chalk is okay. All I could come up with was “fock” you know. like “Meet the Fockers.”
@ Pickles -
If this ol’ hat could talkAnd these ol’ boots could walkThey’d pen poems by the pageAnd step onto the stageShowing all the younguns how to really rock!
Shika - It was probably one of the new meds I’m on. I’m referring to the “weirdness* that caused some of the typos and sensoral reactions to certain characters on these pages a couple of weeks ago. As far as just me as me…you should probably still worry. snigger
Hey Doc! Check out Wizard of Id. I think they were watdhing our water fight too, although it could be a coincidence that the strip involves hiccups and water.
I’m almost finished my rounds at toonville. Boy, last time I sleep in!
In my wanderings through the two comic sites (for my daily laugh), sometimes the comments are far funnier than the strips, as long as the commentators play nice. When they don’t it can be boring, even ugly. (Insert comic strip title here.) Thanks, folks, for making my day. (A member of the Cloven Hoof Tribe, apart from, but similar to, this Tribe.)
Welcome to our Tribe AddADad! You probably know our simple rules but will let docT do the official explanation. I’ve seen you around other sites & always enjoy your comments. Now, if you really want to get in good bring some yummy virtual food!
Greetings to everyone, especially all the newcomers. I just joined the Tribe a few months ago and I love it here. Everybody is great but a little [?] nutty at times. I usually make this my last stop on my comics circuit so I can take time to enjoy. Sort of like saving dessert for last. Of course, sometimes someone will mention another strip and I’ll have no choice but to go check it out.
Cleo I really hope your dog will be ok. Don’t worry about bothering anyone with your troubles. We are all friends here.
I am sending a huge deposit to the bank for anyone who needs it. I had to make a withdrawl a few days ago and it really helped. Thanks.
The Cloven Hoof Tribe was years ago. We were all siblings from different parents, all friends brought together by fate who thought enough alike to form a close knit group. Sadly, it was dispersed by various means (re-locations, illnesses, turning into a he-she) that it exists now only in my memory, jogged by you fine folks. And that from a time when distances were covered by car & not by a few clicks on a computer. That Tribe is dead, long live this Tribe! (Not much of a cook, but I can bring pirogi.)
AddADadaAdDad, I think several of us can relate to what you described. Life goes on. I’m glad you came back. You can bring whatever you want here. We’re not picky.
Joy boiled peanuts sound interesting - next time we are down south I’ll look for them. A sister is moving to the south eastern states so it may not be that long away.
That sounds like salt potatoes in New York. Raw fingerlings cooked in a ton of salt until the salt is gone and the potatoes are tender, then heap with a bunch of melted butter. Good eatin’ and amazingly, they don’t taste salty!
Boy, I like my job! Left home this morning with a couple of strippers to do a tool demo! Oh, c’mon now, get your minds out of the gutter!! They were cable strippers! Demo went poorly until I discovered the last one to borrow them messed up the blades badly. Once I got them replaced all went smoothly!
An aside to Drystyha—It’s just word play. One consonant & one vowel equals how many valid words which can be used in a sentence, however absurd it may be. “We ewe wee wee eww.” Finding the absurdities in life also makes me laugh.
pirate, you better get out there! Don’t want to make our Joy mad! And don’t forget how she likes her rum and coke! Much like my tuna sub, more like a jalapeno sub with some tuna thrown in to hold it together!!!
Dry - I love dogs to the point of when they become ill, it is definitely a family member that is ill. When I lost Kaya, I thought no dog could possibly replace her and she travelled well. I was a travel writer and photographer and was on the road for very long stretches. I didn’t get another dog. Then I met my wife who had Cleo. Cleo didn’t replace Kaya, she is a totally different personality. It was terrific, I gained two new traveling companions and a dog that is every bit as good a pal as Kaya , but you can’t compare the two, which to me, is perfect.
Cleo, I hear ya! Pets are family members and each one is unigue, and all very special to us. If they aren’t you shouldn’t own a pet in the first place!
cleo , yes it is amazing! But animals have no hidden agendas, except to get fed LOL! It’s too bad more poeple aren’t like that!
Of course, if you feed me, I’ll follow you anywhere! :-D
Good evening all, one quick peak in to say HI, before I zip out again, possibly for the night.
Enough with the Toots in here, it is starting to smell. lol. I see Cleo beat me to that punch.
JFri, I know nothing about blackberry’s! So kKenny means nothing to me! And I know Cache loves playing ball, Cache loves just about anything! He’s a sweetie pie! specially in his cap!
johnnydoc, it’s not those kind of toots! I have a one woman band with all kinds of horns to make sure doc gets up on time for work or whatever else he has planned!!
I mowed the lawn, did some weed whacking and was sweeping up when the storm hit. Then I had to wait a few for the storm to pass so I could shower. Now I’m fresh, fresh (as my grandma used to say).
What’s new here?
I don’t know what my grandma meant by fresh, fresh. She was so cute. Even in her old age she had really black hair that she would put in pigtails or braids.
Carmy- My Grandma’s hair turned salt and pepper. She was 93 when she died. My Ddad’s hair was still black when he died at age 70. My hair is golden, reddish blonde, but it is turning pure white in such a way that I look like I have platinum highlights. Not bad. really professional looking, without the cost!
I have heard of that happening. Hair turning gray almost over night! I’d give an opinion on it but far be it from me to sound like a know it all!! LOL couldn’t resist that parting shot!!
Okay, I’m back. Dry you do know all! LOLS. That’s what happened to my gm, it was like overnight.
Shika, my hair was brown with all sorts of highlights when I was young. Now it’s black and very thick. I have several white hairs, probably more than my Mom and she will be 79 this Sunday.
Alrighty folks this id my last post of the day.
Dry, I know about your band, I was just trying to be funny.
Shika, I shouldn’t type so fast when I do my drive-by posting, but I was in a hurry. I had lots to do today.
Now I’m off to bed, good night all!
johnydoc, Goodnight! P & L as doc would say! See you in the morning! By the way, don’t worry about being funny! You were a real hoot when we had our water battle!! We need to do that again soon! Haven’t laughed that hard in a long time!
Mua is getting bored again. Let’s have a water fight next time we can sleep in. I know I’m off work, but I try to keep to a schedule when I can. It’s better for me. So I’ll be going to bed any time now.
@ JFri- What kind of dog? Was it you who had an avatar with a picture of your dog? My memory is for the birds.
@Dry– Don’t worry Dry, I’m stock-piling my ammo, and I know that you ladies down south have been cooking something up too. Just let me in ln it sometime before we start, okay?
Sorry Shika, my last post was sitting here unposted while my daughter came to complain about “there’s nothing to eat”. So that took longer than it should of.
Goodnight Shika!
Thank you all for being concerned about me and my buddy, Cleo. Other than sleeping a lot she seems pretty good.
I just want to let you all know how much I appreciate your concern. It is an odd concept to have such good friends that you have never met, but you guys prove yourselves over and over again to each and every one of us.. I thank you all for being a part of my life.
cleo, I know how you feel! I have some really GREAT friends here and they know who they are, you included! After all, we’re part of the TRIBE!!! THE TRIBE!!!
Dry- I have been lucky with my pets. I have had 3 dogs and they have all been unique individuals. I was to self involved to really appreciate my first dog Winston, actually named after Tennessee Tuxedo’s dog, to show my comic heritage.
cleo, I love dogs. We always had dogs when I was living at home in Texas. I can remember each one too.
Now, we (my husband, our girls and I) can’t have one. We’ve been moving around too much and we are renting so no dogs allowed. Major bummer. When the hubby retires and we settle down in our own house, we WILL have our very own pooch. I can’t wait.
I forgot to mention that my husband’s family had a dog when we were living in Chicago. My husband had named her Bullet after Snuffy Smith’s dog. Bullet was a really good pooch!
We had quite the spectacular show here today. A very technical looking helicopter and several patrol boats and jet skis were involved in some arrest attempt on the other side of our lake. We watched the activities for over an hour with no apparent result.
I’m back so what did I miss? We had a bit of a plumbing emergency here so I had to leave quickly. After I got that all cleaned up, it was time to start thinking about supper. I was getting hungry and reading about meatloaf in the comments didn’t help. I love meatloaf.
Cleo I’m glad to hear your dog is better. It is just as hard to deal with a sick, injured or old animal as it is for the human members of the family. My Serena had cancer when we had to let her go last fall. Three of my four animals are gone and the one left is getting old, though still healthy. Sorry I didn’t mean to go on like that. I guess I was just missing them a little more tonlght.
Dry and JFri yoou’ve lost me somewhere. Not really all that hard to do sometimes.
tired. i’ve been so busy it is crazy, yet i cant sleep. I got my dad and nanny/godmother talking to me again and i should be okay, the little boy i babysit (one of them) is back we found him. (dad kidnapped him) and my friend is okay. one of my friends from church is pregnant. i just got a whole bunch of people stirred up on a pro life site bc they have idiots there who are not pro life looking for trouble and i gave them a piece of my mind and some scriptures to go with it. lol so i have a had an okay day.
I’m sorry you’re going through so much right now. I do pray everything will get much better for you as soon as possible.
You know we are all missing you too!
thanks carmy i know i can count on you to pray for me. you are a great friend. i hate not having time to be here because you all are like a family to me. i miss talking to you all every day. it is just so sad. im trying to make it here and all of that, but i just cant seem to do it. im not sure what my day looks like tomorrow, but i will try to be on here, all i know is that come 10am tomorrow i have my grannys car to wash.

Hi AddaDad and GMartin and the rest of the Tribe!
DocT I think you are now officially Adam from AAH.
Joy great idea - I looooove peanuts!
Cleo I hope little Cleo is much better - maybe it was just a plugged ear. Whatever, here’s some energy.
Won’t be around much today but will pop by occasionally to get caught up.
As DocT would say **P & L

Cleo, I hope your dog is better this afternoon. Our youngest dog suffers from seizures, and we have to give him phenobarbitol twice a day.
Report the guy to the BBB. That is shoddy workmanship.
Tabby: Nice to see you back.

Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 15 years ago

We’ve been moving around too much and we are renting so no dogs allowed. Major bummer. When the hubby retires and we settle down in our own house, we WILL have our very own pooch. I can’t wait.
