I’m gearing up for another week off. Gonna try and get the house in order this time. Last time…some may recall…I was sick most of my week off and didn’t get a lot done (and not because I was yacking with the Tribe all the time). So far so good…at least I didn’t come home sick.

Morning Tribe, sorry about bugging out the way I did last night. I was getting ready to do some serious commenting but wifey wanted to talk for awhile and after that I forgot what I was gonna say and went to bed. Hope everyone is well.

I saw some Ren & Stimpy stuff on TV, never heard of Power Toast Man; wasn’t quite into that type of toons. Forget Spongebob or Cow & Chicken, I personally avoid it, not my idea of entertainment. Johnny Quest, and Bugs Bunny is more my style. I may have outgrown most the TV toons and Nickleodeon stuff but still enjoy a cruise around Gocomics.

I’ve been working on Outlook signatures that refuse to organize for me and why gocomics won’t accept some pictures as avatars. My brain hurts, I’m gonna cruise the toons.

hi tribe. late today, due to donating blood first thing in am. i’ve had breakfast, but i’ll try some of Doc’s nuclear coffee to help rebuild my corpuscles. if i’m not too late to add my faves to the list… Flintstones, Ruff & Reddy, Quick Draw McGraw, Augie Doggie & Doggie Daddy… I am a huge fan of Jonny Quest (the originals, especially, with Tim Matheson as Jonny’s voice). Race Bannon was the first left handed person I ever saw on TV. I also like the original version of George of the Jungle (with Tom Slick and Super Chicken). I’ve mentioned my love of Warner Bros. cartoons and Rocky & Bullwinkle, before. it was good to see that Joy showed up, if i remember correctly, she spoke very nicely in answer to the one time i ever made known my attitude on God and religion (which i know isn’t allowed here, so i’ll say no more about it).

Hello everyone. I won’t try to name all as there are too many . (((((((((((((ALL)))))))))))) You know who you are anyway.

By the way Doc some of your coffee must have escaped and melted a hole through our roof. It has been raining for 2 days and we have to swim through the kitchen. It has been so dry here but now I guess we’re getting all the seasons rain in one weekend. Rain can get tiresome very soon, especially through the roof.

That is a very nice avatar you have Doc He looks just like a cat that we used to have. Not the mouse though. This was a tranplanted barn cat and a hunter. Though he is long gone now, I still miss him. I don’t have any cats now and our dog is getting pretty old too, though still healthy. I am not looking forward to a home without animals. So can I have him back when you’re finished with him?

okay shika, here are my guesses.

Benny, from Top Cat? (not too sure about this one.) Quick Draw McGraw. Snagglepuss. (caused me no end of trouble learning left from right.) definitely, Boo Boo. (Yogi usually put a “Sir” on the end of it in his best Sgt. Bilko voice.) the abominable snowman from Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck cartoons. (i remember only a couple of them.) Foghorn Leghorn.

@Rad: for the “beevair” quote, he was a French Canadian version of Yosemite Sam, named Black Jacques Shellac, (the roughest, toughest, muk luk-est canuck in the whole North West!) in the cartoon where Bugs kept trying to shower under a waterfall while Jacques kept damming the river. Bugs (of course you know, this means WAR!) then built a series of dams, ever farther up stream as Jacques kept destroying them, until he fired his cannon at “Grand Cooler Dam” and was taken away for a 30 year jail term.

    Hi Tribe,

I have been reading the posts and doing some reminiscing today.

    Does anyone remember these?

Howdy Doody, Tugboat Annie, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, I Love Lucy, Ozzie and Harriett, Lassie and Maggie Muggins were not cartoons but they were children’s programs that showed after school when I was a child. My sister and I would walk over to my aunt’s home to watch since she was the only one we knew who had a tv set for the first year or so when tv came to Calgary. Before that we went to the movie theatre on Saturday and, for a nickle, saw all the old series - Texas Rangers, Buck Rogers, The Lone Ranger, Captain Marvel, Three Stooges, Mighty Mouse, Bugs Bunny, and others at the matinee.

Me, I’ve seen cartoons like “Milton The Monster”, “The Mighty Heroes”, “The Super Six”, “The Herculoids”, “Wacky Racers”, you name ‘em, I’ve seen them! Yes, Shika, I do remember the Friendly Giant, and Captain Kangaroo. I even watched them with my kids until they went off the air. The Friendly Giant was Canadian so I imagine the others won’t know it - except perhaps DF. And Dry, I also remember Sky Ranger, My Friend Flicka and Rin Tin Tin? In fact my eldest son watched Rin Tin Tin in French when we were in Quebec. He couldn’t understand French but sure understood the program along with the Australian Skippy le Kangaroo.

Maggy Muggins was a very early tv program - probably before you two were born - I don’t know if it was Canadian or not but I do remember the little girl skipping around the Mr Magillicutty’s garden. I used to remember the theme song. Maybe it will come back to me.

How about Mr. McGOO? With the big glasses. He was almost blind.

I remember a Mr. McGillicutty, but from where, I forget.

Was there a farmer Brown on T.V? Or is that just in Peter Rabbit books.

RAD You mentioned Fred and Barney smoking near the fence for a cigarette commercial. They cut those segments out for Canadian T.V.

One funny thing I remember is tuning into an American channel several years ago to watch Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd. They censored all the violence out, so there was hardly anything left. Good thing I knew the original cartoon. Our’s weren’t censored, from ehat I recall.

I mean, what they have now is far more violent and realistic.

But the intention was good. Just misguided, in general.

Shiaka You also may have some unnecessary programs on there. I had the Weather Channel on my desktop and my son told me to get rid of it. My computer was much faster after that. I bookmarked it instead and can go there to get the weather. I thought it was a neat little gadget so I installed it, ended up uninstalling.

Backups on ‘puters should not take all that long. When I back up mine it takes about 10-15 minutes but I don’t do anything else during that time. Everytime you do something it is a new entry that the backup needs to configure, so to speak.

My bil didn’t like the fact that Mr. Rogers was a gentle man so wouldn’t let his girls watch. I think it showed more about his own insecurities. My boys loved it - far more than Sesame Street that moved too quickly and seemed to make kids hyper.

Cleo, I too will miss your comments. BTW how do you store blackberries? Washed or unwashed? Ours are just ripening so I’m planning to pick starting tomorrow. Of course we’ve had several treats while on walks and they aren’t washed…

dawn Fred Rogers was a kind and gentle man, good father, wonderful husband, warm and caring God fearing man. And his show was so instructional! He was a GOOD MAN!!

Dawn - I don’t know about anybody else, but my wife and I eat berries all year long. We freeze a lot of fruit. Berries like raspberries and strawberries and black berries, we stick on a baking sheet in rows with the berries not touching. We stick them in the freezer and allow them to freeze, then we put them in freezer bags. With blueberries we just put fresh blueberries in freezer bags as they are.

Dry,I agree completely and so does my husband who has a similar temperament, and we argued the point with my brother-in-law very regularly. But then, my bil is a strange character.

dawn I know what you mean! Some peoples minds can’t be changed no matter how wrong they are, so I just give up and figure they are jerks, and let the chips fall where they may!

We grow most of our own berries, but even those that we don’t , we do not wash. We probably should, but we don’t. But, like I said, most of our berries are our own. We supplement our supply on blueberries by buying locally. This is the first year where our blueberries have been supplying a lot of fruit, but still not enough to get us through the winter.

Thanks - I don’t think I’ll wash them - they grow along the path we walk when going to town so aren’t polluted - just washed by the rain. Thanks Cleo!

Dawn - Blackberries that grow along the side of a path are fine. If you are picking them on a dirt road with lots of traffic, you might want to rinse them, but we have plenty in areas only associated with foot traffic and we never even think of washing them.

Thanks Cleo we don’t if we’re eating them while on the walk and don’t bother with the ones on dusty roads. Just wondered about when freezing so you have saved me a lot of time.
