Where is everybody anyways. Well….if anybody ever shows up they can have their choice between a ham and egg strata or a sausage casserole. I have mashed potatos patties, homemade wheat bread. I have orange marmalade, strawberry freezer jam and peach/ plum jam. I have fresh blackberries ( the first of the season). raspberries, strawberries, the last of the blueberries and scones. DoctorT’s nuclear coffee, Apple cider and cranberry juice. For the adventurous, I have greyhounds (vodka & grapefruit juice), capecodders and bloody marys.

    *GOOD MORNING TRIBE

Goodness, either I’m really early or everyone is really tired. Too many posts yesterday for me to even try, I have much to do today. Hate it when RL intrudes.

But it’s a good intrustion, I have my beadwork—primarily snowflakes and chunky necklaces—on sale at a local beadstore. I am one of the ‘featured artists’ for Sept-Nov. and am thrilled I was asked. I literally stumbled into this, Tribe. I heard a new bead shop had opened and I needed wax and I went there hoping they would have some wax (the one place I know carries it regularly is a little far to go unless I’m absolutely desperate). The owner and I got to talking and I showed her my snowflakes. They weren’t even stiffened yet, but she loved them and offered me the gig.

So off to RL. But here are some Krispy Kreams. Enjoy

DC will be tough for her though because there is always a lot of walking involved and it is tough enough for a person that doesn’t have physical issues. @cleo, I’m pretty sure they do, although there are a lot of separate museums involved in the Smithsonian. Over a dozen, I think… [research] …10 or 11 on the Mall, plus the affiliated National Gallery of Art, and gosh-how-many elsewhere in the city, in New York, Virginia…

Personal favorites: Freer Gallery, National Gallery of Art (several rooms in particular), and Natural History, especially the room with the Hope Diamond, but for the other items there, especially that exquisite jade vase.

    And then there’s…

hi tribe nice to see from joy and johnny again. both mentioned Western Michigan University. that was my second road trip to see my nephew play soccer for SUNY @ Buffalo (U@B, as they refer to it). MAC semi-finals. We watched game one, which featured WMU, and then our game was set to start after. We (my Dad and my Sister - the lad’s Mom) figured, “No way he spots us in this crowd.” WMU game ended, crowd jumped on field to celebrate the win and then disappeared. Three of us sitting in the stands with maybe a half dozen more folks as U@B walks on to take warm ups. Stuck out like a sore thumb! they lost by a goal but it was a great time for us in Kalamazoo.

i never did get to the Smithsonian when i was in DC in May. i spent too much energy the first day i was there walking up and down the mall, photographing monuments and the White House and other things (on Pennsylvania Avenue, too) like the Old Post Office and the Canadian Embassy. my poor arthritic knees just couldn’t face a second day of walking, so i decided to give it a miss. one day, i’ll go back to check it out - especially “Air and Space” and “The American Indian.”

Belated g’morgen to all, The Smithsonian requires a week or two to do it justice. There’s just too much to see. Better to do 2-3 hours at a time, and then rest up before taking another bite to chew.

We did much the same with the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago: start off in a different direction each visit, so over the course of 5 or 6 you got to see most of what they had. By then, of course, there were new exhibits in the old rooms, or little nooks you had overlooked, especially in the stairways. Always something new, or something you hadn’t seen in ten years.

I agree that you want to save a lot of time for the Smithsonian! I remember my parents took me to Washington D.C when I was 15, but they only allowed one day for that city! I’ve never made it back, but I would love to spend a week or more there, since I’m a history buff.

Good afternoon all. I see bmonk beat me to saying CdotC still down. Ah, well.

I’ve been to D.C. several times (about 4 hours away from me). The Smithsonian takes a while. Don’t miss the American History Museum, especially the old fashioned ice cream parlor therein (at least I hope it’s still there). The Zoo is also a good place to go. The Metro is clean and safe. Goes near most places. Probably the farthest stop is the Zoo and that’s 3-4 blocks.

Thanks, bmonk and saucy! I’m trying some links I have saved, but rarely used, to see if I can find the strips I read there somewhere else - at least for today. Comics.com does seem to carry more in color than some of the other sites. But better in B&W than not at all!

I had a great time! It is a beautiful part of Quebec, near the Gatineau River that I was staying. My Friend Jullie and her husband work in Ottawa, which is a half hour commute form their home.

The four children were in school, so I had the house to myself, along with a Husky/Malamute named Nukka, and two cats: a calilco named Milou, and a black cat named Bilaloulise (I think!).

I took Nukka for walks in the morning and made a friend for life.

Dry! Try one cat in a one bedroom apartment. I don’t think a Malamute/Husky mix would do well couped up here!

But I’d love to have a place with woods and water nearby and some cats and a dog.

Oh, and while I’m dreaming, deer and woodland critters and birds too!

MoPar - I am literally living in a party zone. My wife’s two 20 somethings just got back from a summer of fishing in Alaska and brought a bunch of friends over for dinner and cocktails. Believe it or not Bluegrass is the new cool music, so I have hauled down my bluegrass CDs. The one I am playing now I actually bought at a Smithsonian gift shop. Here is a taste.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXkwthWiMFk#

Shika - Your dream sounds like where I live. Except our dog and cats are all gone now. If we weren’t planning to move in the next few years, maybe we’d consider getting some new pets, but right now we’re without any. We have enough trees around us, that when the leaves are on, we can’t see our neighbors. Our driveway is on the cul-de-sac, and a farm access road leads off from there to down around the bottom of the cliff to a field across the railroad tracks. Our house sits on top of the hill, the cliff is our western property line. The farm access road cuts through a wood that is so thick you can’t see through even when there aren’t leaves. Lots of wildlife: deer, squirrels, birds, snakes, jackrabbits, skunks, opossums, armadillos, turtles, toads, raccoons…that’s all I can recall at the moment, if we’re not counting spiders & insects. Oh, and a river runs alongside the railroad tracks, except when it makes a horseshoe bend around the field. Does that sound like what you imagine?

My husband and I are taking a class in Lapidary Arts at the local college on Wednesday nights. We cut and polished our first stones, and went to open lab this afternoon to finish them up. We had rock club this morning, and had a great speaker who talked baout wilderness survival. The thing that kills the most people is hypothermia. This can occur even in FL.
