Eggs benedict, fresh Virginia bacon, english muffins with fresh strawberry jam, fresh squeezed orange juice, a fresh sliced fruit salad, Bloody Mary’s, chai tea, and Earl Grey! Oh, and just for the fun of it, Pennsylvania scrapple fried to a crisp!!
Dry - You sweetie. Thank you my dear. I am putting my frying pans back in the drawer, putting my feet on the table and am prepared to watch you do your magic in the kitchen.
Terry- Good move, my friend. For me the perfect evening ends with a decent drink, occasionally a cigar, occasionally a fire, good conversation and another decent drink. :-)
Good Morning Yappy Nuts!
I’ll have the English muffins and some orange juice. Thank you, Dry.
I’ll have to agree with JFri, a breakfast lasagna would have been nice.
lw, I have a serious piece of advice for you. Use your school counselers, that’s what they are there for. They can help you with future plans, including scholarships.
Marg - a bloody mary for you my dear. How about you Carmy? Here’s a little ditty to kind of ease us into that special place.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNafWbdriW0#
Dry- Hmm, anything cold and knock your socks of strong. One glass of refrigerated gym socks coming up. Hee, hee. If you want cold and strong then I will give you a heavily iced tumbler of Booker’s. 126 proof only dilutes slowly if the ice is cold enough.
Pink lemonade for carmy. I had lemons and simple syrup, so I made you fresh lemonade. For color I just tossed a splash of Chambord into your glass for color.
Oh, oh…We have reached that huggy part of the evening. I will sit here and wait patiently until we get to that gropy part of the evening. I like to think of nothing buthttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jt8Q7Fsa_Vs#
Dry I’m sorry! I won’t bother anyone with my Insecurities. I just wanted to thank Terry for the conversation I had no intention on asking for advice. Maybe I am a narcissus but it’s better than being a troll. I would like to tell you what I think of you right now. But I shall control my anger and not stoop to a low level.
Look you guys are the ones with all the good stories here. I like hearing what you guys do especially when you share RL My life is a bore because nothing exciting ever happens to me. I am 17 Dry and the only thing i’m good at here is just writing stories. If you all would just allow me to post my stories here when I want. You would make me very happy and I would stop being so personal. I love Pibgorn, but I want to love it here. Everyone has fun here doing what they want. If you just let me be my story telling self you might like me better.
Hi waycyber Being lost on the way to Pibgorn, made me realize comics.com still isn’t up. I found this and there are some comments on how to get that site working
Hello everyone, I have a headache that’s keeping me from sleeping (not to mention 2 cats that insist on being fed early in the morning), so I thought I’d see what’s been happening the last 2 days. Interesting posts. Dry, I’ll have some of that tea, it would hit the spot right now. Terry, I really like your “Good Night, wolf”. Did you make that yourself? And Cleo, that new picture is great! waycyber - this isn’t LooneyTunes, but close enough!
It’s a toss up. I don’t have to work on the cars I have hear. They are scheduled for tomorrow. But if I get bored I can work on them today. I promised my son I would take him to a new Mexican retaurant for breakfast, just him and I since Wolfangil is working.
Hello everyone, I have the day off from work myself. I’m glad to be here “Under The Big Top” or as I’m going to reffer to it just today as “The Labor Day Mad House Party”! So how are things? Is comics.com still down? Some of you haven’t been getting your “9CWL” fix in the last two days. I’ve been missing a few days of it myself.
Good Morning, tribe. This is where I was supposed to make my debut today, But I did it 2 weeks earlier. So for
those of of you who want to hear me introduce myself again, hi, I’m Dora Dingle, or as they joking called me “Dora The Underwater Explorer”!.
Back in the days of private school, I was a member of an all girl’s swim team (grades 8-10) until it went coed and I quit (along with othergirls on the swim team}. After high school, I moved here to Florida from Arizona.
Since then, I got a job at a dive rental near Lake Okeechobee. I’ll tell you more about how I accquired my love for free diving in another posting. Later.
Good morning all. The rain that was SUPPOSED to hold off until this afternoon, arrived at 8:30 a.m. so instead of yard work I have to play on the computer and read comcis all day. Doggone it!
Ma’at - I have been receiving a number of great comments on my latest avatar. Terry deserves the credit he is the one that provided it for my use.
Dora - Interesting, I didn’t realize that Lake Okeechobee was that deep. Florida is such a flat state that I assumed the lake would be relatively shallow. My wife was also a competitive swimmer and all around athlete. She had a spinal cord injury about 6 years ago, which ended her days of snow skiing. But, to her great joy, she still can swim and does so everyday, on our lake in the summer.
Saucy - I was making my comments after the turnover last night, here at Big Top and couldn’t believe that I was actually hearing the rainfall inside the house. It is common for us to get heavy rainfall in the late fall and winter, but not this early.
Cleo, I don’t think swimming is allowed at Lake Okeechobee. It’s mostly used for fishing and sailing. They just had a big fish tournament there. A father and his son that were in the tournament were found dead after falling off their boat.
I’m still trying to figure out what causes the sweet but tangy odor I smell when the wind is just right and I’m under the Big Top. I did not call the EPA, though!
Terry i do try to get on here as much as possible i sware it i do. but its just crazy here its always crazy here. being in college is crazy. im working on an essay right now and it sucks big time. lol so im not going to be on much. sorry…. i will try to be on and off i promise.
Akenta - Thanks for the info on how to get to comics.com. My geek son could get it to work on his computer, but not mine. I’ve got Vista, I’m not sure which OS he’s got - Linux, I think. So I’ll at least get to read them on his computer.
Good morning/afternoon tribe!
I can’t spend much time here today, as my dear hubby is around. If I goof off, he will too! And there are a lot of “honey-do” projects for today. Plus, his folks are coming Friday for a visit, so I’ve got some rearranging, and cleaning to do.
cleo in the past two weeks the weeds have taken over my garden and my flower beds! They look like the poster child for “How Not to Grow a Garden”! But so what. Don’t have the time or energy to worry about it. I’ll pick my beans, what’s left of my tomatoes and that’s that! I do have a nice stand of tomatoes left off my back porch.
doc - I don’t claim to be a computer geek, either. I just copied & pasted the instructions from Akenta, and emailed them to my son. He is proud to be a computer geek, and since he was also upset about “Brand X” being down, I knew he would be interested.
Dry - I too am noticing the first signs of fall. (sigh) The weather here is feeling like summer - 88F, humidity 59% - but one variety of tree is starting to lose its leaves. (Don’t ask me what kind it is - we didn’t plant it!)
Me, too, Dry! Especially because I’m allergic to ragweed, but I’ve never liked fall, because I know winter isn’t far behind. I like going without socks, wearing flip-flops, and not dragging a jacket with me when I go some place.
Woo Hoo! I just cleaned out the hall closet! I’m getting a big bag of clothes together for a Vietnam Vets of America donation pick-up.
JoyfulCorker, I am not familiar with meat pies, except the ones from “Sweeney Todd.” Perhaps it is Cuban. I’ll ask my Mom about that next time I call her.
Hi Terry, RRAmom and Shika!
BBL
LOL! Reminds me of the National Geographic “Mad Bluebird” picture!
http://www.missico.com/personal/tidbits/images/madbluebirdlarge.jpg
http://www.missico.com/personal/tidbits/mad_bluebird.htm
The meat pies I know are in a pie crust with whatever meat you want, mixed vegetables, onions and gravy. I know its a big thing in PA Dutch cooking. I haven’t made one for a long time.
Hi, carmy! I am SO proud of you for getting that closet cleaned out! Do you want to come and help me gather stuff to donate to the thrift store? I just taped up one box today, but I’ve a lot more junk to sort through.
No thanks, RRAmom! I still have to clean out daughter #4’s dresser drawers. I have her new school clothes in a laundry basket and need the space to put them in. The older girls are good at cleaning out their own stuff. THEN, I have to go through my stuff, sigh. I’ll do that later in the week. Luckily my pickup date in not until the 24th, but I’d rather get it done ASAP.
My computer picked up a wireless signal, I won’t have my own until Thursday or Friday.
Terry, as classes don’t start until after Labor day, at least here in Michigan, I have some free time now.
I live too far out for the DAV (or anyone) to pick up donations. But the thrift store that I take my donations to is close to the dentist’s office, and since I have to go there Thursday, it would be nice to have a loadful to drop off. Of course, with the in-laws coming Friday, it is a higher priority to have things ready for their visit.
Dry - Isn’t another name for those type of pies, “pot pies”? My hubby (who’s from PA) likes to eat them occasionally, but he just buys them in doc’s favorite department.
johnny - If your semester doesn’t start until after Labor Day, when does it end? My son’s college started Aug. 17, and his finals week is the 2nd week of December.
See ya, Joy! I do know what empañadas are. They usually are made with fruit. I think I have seen some made with meat also. My Mom wants to see the TPC next year for her b-day.
johnny - Doesn’t sound like you get much of a Christmas break! My son’s school’s spring semester starts Jan. 19, and finals week is the 2nd week of May. Sounds like you have a long summer to make up for the short break at Christmas.
Terry - Hello buddy. I have been to town, put in new electrical plugins in a bedroom and now I am making Persian Meat Stew with Peaches. So I come post, dash away, then come back again.
I’ve gotten dinner eaten. Just filing school papers, trying to get my son’s schoolwork assignments ready for tomorrow, and updating my gradebook, so I’ll know what grades to put on his high school transcript. Nothing like multi-tasking!
RRAmom - Hello young lady. I admire you for home schooling. That is a tough job. I am friends with a couple who home schooled their son and daughter. Both have turned out to be extremely gifted and genuinely nice people who have always been as comfortable with adults as their peers.
I had a friend of a friend clasify me as a Type-AB(one that cannot be clearly classified) He said I was too unpredictable and if he diagnosed me any further he would have to write a book! LOL To this day, I’m not sure how to take that! And I have had 2 semesters of psychology!!
Cleo These are just labels, that’s all. I had to have some tests this spring, and that’s what showed up. I think that I know how to get the job done, and so I am focused that way, but I know how to relax too.
My impatience may be due to my having lived alone for so long that I’m used to doing what I want when I want. But I’m pretty considerate and generous by today’s standards. And very patient where it counts.
Terry A-B is how I classified myself years ago. Or type C. I’m a type B in a Type A world, or city anyways. That’s what made me blow a fuse last year and so now I’m changing my career to something more suited to my personality.
I tend to be a procrastinator. After my divorce I lived alone for 6 years, plus I am an only child. My wife is definitely used to being in charge, so occasionally we are like oil and water. I have to admit, I would much rather be doing what I want to do, when I want to do it and my wife sees a job that needs to be done and wants me to do it right away. Her family refers to her as LG - The “Little General”. LOL
Thanks, cleo! I can’t argue that homeschooling is a lot of hard work, but the rewards are worth it. Between switching churches, and being involved in several homeschool groups over the years, I’ve seen a lot of kids as they change through the years. There are always exceptions to the rules, but for the most part, homeschooled kids tend to accept their parents’ values, where kids who are with their same age group for the majority of the time, adopt the values of that peer group. Not a surprise if you think about it. One of the things I’ve heard a youth “expert” tell us parents is that kids spell love “T I M E”. A parent can tell his/her kids that they love them (and should), but spending the bulk of time with them everyday speaks even louder. There have been some discussions with our kids about why we can’t afford some things that other families spend money on. Whenever we’ve explained that it came down to a choice between me staying home & teaching them, or them going to another school and me working at a job, they always decided that they’d rather have Mom. (Like I said, the rewards are worth it!)
RRAMom Meat pies are the kind I described earlier. True Pot Pies are made differently. The term pot pie comes from I believe the German word Bot Boi. You cna buy the noodles already made or you can make your own which I do when I have time. You roll the dough out and cut into squares about 1 1/2” x 1 1/2” wide. First you take a hunk of ham, bone in, I usually use ham hocks, placed in chicken broth and water and slow cook for several hours. I also add onion and sometimes celery leaves. I let that cool, pull off the meat, refrigerate the broth overnight to skim off the fat, then add potatoes, more onions, some salt and pepper cook for awhile, add the pot pie dough and the cooked ham. GOOD EATIN!! You can use chicken or beef, but I like the ham pot pie the best! I eat mine with a ton of horseradish!!
Greetings everyone. Boy, a person gets down in the dumps for a couple of days and look what happens. It takes another couple of days just to catch up. BTW thanks for all the hugs and good wishes the other day. They really helped. I had just gotten word that my father had taken a fall and was in the hospital. According to my sister who called me, they weren’t expecting him to make it. But latest word is that he is getting a bit stronger. It still is only a matter of time. He has cancer and he got a bad case of pneumonia as well. But that apparently is responding to antibiotics. so we’re hoping for a little more time.
But I don’t want to darken everyone’s day so that’s all I’ll say about that.
It looks like the holiday is almost over. I worked last night and again tonight. I don’t mind working on a long weekend. Holiday pay is nice. So we didn’t go anywhere or do anything but sleep. The last two nights were really slow but tonight shoould be a little busier.
Shika your supper sounds good to me! But I add sliced sweet pickes in with the vinegar and tomatoes and I also add onion! Sometimes, I add mayo and oil too!
cleo - It is said that opposites attract! My sister is the one we call “General”, but I’m very good at finding work that needs to be done (by myself or by others.) I procrastinate at tasks that don’t have a deadline, or are repetitive. But for tasks that I can do, and they stay done, I find I prefer to get them finished so they’re not “hanging over my head.” So people outside my family think I’m extremely organized and efficient, because those are the areas that I can do well. But keeping the house clean is the area I procrastinate the most. It wasn’t too bad when I lived by myself, as after I cleaned, I would keep it picked up and organized for several weeks. Living with three males, I’m doing good to keep it clean between the time I clean it, and company arrives. I hate having to do the same work over and over again!
Dry - I too am a horseradish fiend. The hotter the better.
RRAmom - The friends I was telling you about, have shown that. Their kids even like the same music as their parents. Their parents are also very laid back and inclusive with their kids. Consequently, their kids, now in their 20’s are also very relaxed and can carry on a conversation with anyone of any age group. My wife did not home school her kids, but did not have TV. Her 20 something kids read all the time and seem to be able to discuss subjects that are more indepth than a lot of their peers.
BANG CLASH TINKLE, SOUND OF GLASS (ACCIDENTALLY) BREAKING, AKENTA, WHAT DID WE BREAK THIS TIME?? OH DEAR, I THINK THAT WAS DOC’S PRICELSS VASE!! QUICK AKENTA, GRAP THAT CRAZY GLUE
serenasakitty - You aren’t the only one to “write a book”. I love the Blaise Pascal quote (well, his was in French) about his letter to a friend: “sorry this is so long, I didn’t have time to make it short”.
((((serena))))* - What is it about Tribe members and bad luck. Your situation sounds very much like what Dry has been going through. I have put a big deposit in the bank for both of you.
Dry - Noodles in a pot/meat pie? Never have seen that. It seems like the ones my hubby will buy are basically a beef stew in a double-crusted pie shell. Thankfully, he doesn’t care for them that often, so hasn’t asked me to make him any. However, if anyone has a good carrot cake recipe without raisons, he’d like me to try my hand at making one.
RRAMom i wouldn’t call pot pies squares noodles, at least that’s me. Noodles to me are the long skinny ones, like egg noodles. Like Muellers egg noodles. (Geez I wonder if I’ll cut a cut of their profits for advertising? LOL!)
cleo - Any time kids grow up reading books more than watching TV or movies, they will have a larger vocabulary, better grammar, and be able to handle abstract thinking better. It has been proven that homeschooled kids on the whole, relate better to a wide range of ages, than the typical kid their age. I know my sons enjoy each other’s company much more than my siblings ever did.
It is difficult to have aging parents! My father passed away in 2001, my mom had her first serious stroke in March of 2007, and has continually gone downhill healthwise. It isn’t an easy experience to go through.
RRAMom yes it’s in place of a top crust. I lay the squares on the top but they get mixed in because I stir everything at least once as it cooks. I’m telling you, there is NOTHING like HAM POT PIE, especially in winter. Comfort food at its best! And it tastes even better reheated!
Add some warm crusty bread, and HORSERADISH, a meal fit for royalty! I think so anyway!
Shika HORSERADISH GOES WILL WITH EVERYTHING, even spagetti and meatballs!
RRAMom ham pot pie is good in winter, filling and tasty. Like I said you can use a nice beef roast and shred when cooked, or a chicken, but I’ve always preferred the ham. I think some people even use a pork roast to make theirs.
Shika I’ve always had a penchant for hot and spicy, the hotter the better! I hope old age never gets in the way! Oh well, if so, I’ll stock up on Prevacid or something!! LOL
I don’t really have a beach, but I have a nice deck and dock on the water. And yes, partying at my house is common. I don’t know if you were around this weekend, but my wife’s kids got back from fishing in Alaska and partied with four of their friends into the wee hours of the morning, after first fixing a bbq’ed salmon dinner for us with part of their catch.
shika - It is very easy now for homeschoolers to have outside activities with other people. The hardest part is deciding which ones to participate in, as there is never enough time (or money) to do everything that sounds interesting.
DoctorT - Our importance to you seems to be diminishing drastically as the days go on. As the days get shorter and shorter and shorter, does that mean that soon we won’t see you at all?
Shika The hot stuff never bothers me, people are amazed that I can eat all that hot stuff! One restaurant we get take out from knows it’s me as soon as I say, XTRA XTRA XTRA HOT! I’m just afraid, as I age, I may not be able to do that!
Once we had a Christmas party at the office and one of my co-workers bought these REALLY REALLY hot chicken wings, as a prank joke on me because he figured I’d cave at the first or second bite! Everybody caved but me! I ate them all! He said I can’t believe she ate that and didn’t gag, tear up or anything. Then he says, “Do you even have any taste buds left in your mouth?” ROFLMAO
shika - We do not have a beach because we are on the deepest part of the lake and also near the source, which is good, since we get our drinking water from the lake. It would be nice to have a beach, but I think that being able to dive off of the dock into deep water beats having to wade out until you can finally dive in. Some people have water so shallow around them that it makes it tough to boat. I live on the smallest part of the lake, but it is also the deepest at 140 feet. The lake is only about 8 miles around, so it is cool that it gets that deep.
Horseradish, makes everything taste like.. well, horseradish. It is way to powerful to be put with anything unless you really like it!
Shika, like the Queen song, Now I’m here, Now I’m here. (Instrumental pause), Now I’m there.
I could be anywhere!
Dry - I am the same way. Mr. cast iron stomach. I always order the hottest at a Thai restaurant. I do stop at a certain point though because I want to be able to taste something other than pepper. The only person that I have met that likes food as hot as me is an Iranian friend, who can match me in our love of heat.
I’ve got school again, of course I’ll sign!
Spicy doesn’t affect taste buds, it just burns EVERYTHING!
When my uncle was a little kid, he was playing in my Grandma’s garden. He kept touching the jalapeno peppers, and then he had to rub his eyes. He was in pain for a while, as I hear it.
Doc has been scarce since he went camping. Also, he told us about his new work schedule. I think you are right about love entering in, and that’s great!
As long as he invites us to the wedding, LOL
I think it’s great he has someone he loves to be with. He’ll be back though. He’s loyal to the Tribe too.
Yes you would love a Thai restaurant. A Korean restaurant too!! Having lived with a Korean girl, I do a pretty good job of Korean cooking myself. But nobody here will eat it!
I have to make a correction to my last post. I used to always order the hottest Thai food, but of late, I have toned down the heat from a five pepper rating, the hottest, to a three. I found that all I tasted was the heat of the pepper. At three you get some heat, but you also are able to taste the other flavors in the dish. I finally learned that it isn’t how much heat I could take, but how much flavor was put forth by the dish.
Horseradish is a different beast though, because unlike peppers, whose heat lingers, horseradish heat diminishes rapidly. So, I want the hottest I can find. I want my eyes to burn baby.
I think the reason that I can tolerate peppers more than some is that people all have a different amount of taste buds. My theory is that those that can tolerate the most heat have the fewest taste buds.
((((SHIKA))))! So sorry to hear about your Dad! I’ll keep him in my thoughts for you.
If you ever need another quickie tuna salad, I put steak sauce and dill pickle relish in tuna, mix and serve on shredded lettuce. Sounds terrible, but works for me!
The hubs and I had the best dinner tonight! We went to Fish City Grill and had all-you-can-eat Alaskan Crab. It was flown in fresh for the weekend, and the cook knew just how to boil it. Tender and tasty, the meat just slid out. We went early so we were about the only ones there at the time. We had a blast with the cook and the staff! The music is always great, and tonight the Sirius station was playing a lot of “boogie down” disco music from the ‘80’s. It was a riot! We were all singing along, and of course dancing in the aisles and seats. It was amazing how many of these 20-somethings knew the words to these songs. If you ever get a chance to go to Fish City Grill, I highly recommend the oyster nachos.
Spicy food is okay by me, but horseradish makes my eyes and nose burn too much. That said, hand me a champagne anytime. And keep ‘em comin’!
And my name definitly is going on the petition. Whose wouldn’t?!
Dry, obviously that’s why I’m here too!
Hi Ma’at - Bye Ma’at!Cleo, you should go down to the Valley and compete in the jalapeño eating contest. I think they give the contestants free ice cold beer.
Shika–Figure of speech with friends, but well accepted on my part and felt in return the same way. I look at all of you in a similar respect!! Of course you’re a better looking brother than Mopar!
Thanks everybody. It’s nice to know we’re not alone in this isn’t it Dry and anyone else going through troubled times.
Please stuff the ballot box for summer lasting forever [minus so many BUGS] with my name.
Serena
All this talk about hot food reminds me of our neighbor, the one who also made chokecherry wine. He makes his own horseradish, so hot that just to be in the house while he made it made me feel sick. It was blow-your-sox-off hot. I don’t like food that is hot or too spicy. My son likes his food really hot. I don’t know where he got that from.
It is getting late so I’d better stop writing my book here and get ready for work. I probably won’t be able to get back tonight so I’ll see everyone in the morning.
Terry, daughter #2 plays the flute in her middle school band. Tequila is one of their signature songs.
I asked the band director if they could play “Horse” and she didn’t know it. Does anyone remember “Horse”?
LOL Terry! Thanks for that one. I needed something to lift my spirits. I just finished getting lost in thought listening to Karen Carpenter singing “Rainy Days and Mondays”.
It’s sad what happened to her, so when I listened, it brought me back, and made me sad and happy all at once. I have her records.
I wanted to play “Monday, Monday” for today. It’s more fun. I love their voices.
I can’t drink Tequila, but that song is happy. I loved the dog and cat. I liked to play that on my mom’s Hammond organ, the one with all the crazy stops on it.
Back in the day, we would go out,and we had this friend, who, everytime he heard that Van Halen song, no matter where we were, he would jump on the table (of course it was nowhere too classy!) and dance. He was perfectly sober, he just loved that song and he lived his life like that, full of bounce and vigor, still does, and he’s 56 now! He’ll never grow up completely, but that’s a good thing!
I must reiterate: You can’t taste spicy, you can taste the peppers, but the seeds secrete a chemical, I forget what it’s called, that burns human tissue, all kinds. that is why if you try to take a shot of Tabasco sauce (not that I would know), and you try to push it right to the back of your throat and down, it will just burn the back of your throat and down, and that really hurts. (again, not that I would know, because I was never dared to do that.) That is also why one should always where gloves whilst picking a patch of peppers.
Geez Terry did you have to make me feel so freakin’ old? Senor Wences and Ed Sullivan?
Go find the Beatles American Debut on Ed Sullivan! George was the one I drolled over when I was about 10(?) the next day at school! Man that playground was ABUZZ! In a Catholic school no less!
Okay, I am going to try to finish the movie I started last night. It doesn’t interest my wife, so I can stop it whenever I want and come back here, which probably explains why I did not advance much more than about a half hour last night.
That above was from an earlier point that appears to have been dropped.
As for the current stream of classic links, I always wish I had been around when they were new. Comedy today is mostly vulgar, and music is worse, gives me a headache too.
johnny don’t worry about your sister. I still find long gone stars attractive because I look at the work they’ve done, or what I’m watching in front of me, not that they’re gone! I guess “cinema” keeps the memories alive. I know guys like Steve McQueen and Cary Grant are LONG gone, but when you’re watching them in a movie they are there, you know what I’m trying to say? Oh LORD, now YOU’LL THINK I’M NUTS!!! (LOL)
blood type.. O positive
spicy foods… not realy, sometimes depends no with braces bc cuts in mouth burn lots.
summer TabbyLynn
songs did not go see.
im done with my essays and im tired as can be… i had an old teacher of mine look it over and proof read it. its much better this time. well im tired as heck
oh(((((Sereana)))))
#####Shika
when you were gone mua came to visit his aunt. lol so i took a pic. and put it up to show you.
well now hi to all and bye to all.
Love to the tribe. love ya. love me. lol night night
Terry I clicked on the next link, What Really happened on the Ed Sullivan show. That audience had to have been stacked, all females that I could see! Of course, no wonder!
Man them “was the days”!
Grazing in the GrassOkay I am getting WAY TOO LONG A LIST HERE OF CD’S TO BURN!! Didn’t realize what all I had forgotten from all music forms! KNOCK IT OFF!!! lol!
People think I am weird because I like all the vintage stuff too. (might be poor word choice)
The local stations here are buzzing about the re release of the complete Beatles collection and they are playing them all day Wednesday, I can’t wait.
I just finished doing my dishes to all these tunes, and you guys posted a WHOLE PAGE!
Hi johnny! Yeah, it seems weird to be ga-ga eyed over a dead man, but, hey, you only live once, and if the guy you like dies before you are born, well, that’s too bad! LOL!
My oldest sister is 11 years older than me. When we would see The Beatles live on Ed Sullivan, she would act like she was in the audience. She’d be crying and getting crazy. I was so young, I didn’t know what was wrong with her. LOLS!!
I haven’t been too involved tonight although when I looked back I was rather chatty way early in the morning. Then I had a rant or two which got a little long, but you know, sometimes ya just gotta.
I can still wear the same size shirts I wore when I was 25. I am lucky that my metabolism is so high, cause I eat like a horse and I’ve been at 155 since I was 25. And no I’m not 5’1”. I’m 5’8”. LOL
Gee, he sure watches a lot of movies, doesn’t he? It must be nice to have that time with his wife though. I never was much of a movie watcher, but then I don’t watch T.V. anymore either.
There is no hearing in the right ear and there’s almost no chance now that it has been this long! And being that there is no hearing at all a regular hearing aid won’t work! The alternative is a BAHA(Bone Anchored Hearing Aid) which goes behind the ear. I don’t like the looks of it!!
It’s Orientation Week at the college, so I’ll just go down to see what’s happening. I think there is a barbeque Thursday night. It will be a busy enough week, and then I start classes next Monday.
Shika—I have been working on cars so long, but it’s like a hobby to me. I really love my profession but I wouldn’t tell anyone to do it anymore now a days. Too difficult to start in terms of wages and tools are expensive.
My son wants to work on cars and I told him college in computers and as a backup, auto mechanic. He already helps me and as long as he can fix his own, I’m happy.

No, no, I mean body odor.

Looks I’m first, aw schuks!
And doc’s coffee!
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 15 years ago
Cleo body odor? Must be you, it’s NOT MY BREAKFAST! And who deleted a comment, there were 3.

Dry - You sweetie. Thank you my dear. I am putting my frying pans back in the drawer, putting my feet on the table and am prepared to watch you do your magic in the kitchen.

Dry- The body odor comment refers to the strip, not your breakfast. I never rag a chef, especially before I have eaten.

Pink lemonade for carmy. I had lemons and simple syrup, so I made you fresh lemonade. For color I just tossed a splash of Chambord into your glass for color.

I found this and there are some comments on how to get that site working
http://www.softsailor.com/news/7155-comics-com-down-for-second-day-in-a-row.html
I haven’t tried it yet, but if I can get it to work, I’ll post the instructions.
Akenta about 15 years ago
That advice given actually works, no side-effects that I can see. If you want to see comics.com here’s what you need to do:
edit C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
add the following two lines: 64.58.142.26 comics.com http://www.comics.com 64.58.142.223 assets.comics.com

Is comics.com still down? Some of you haven’t been getting your “9CWL” fix in the last two days. I’ve been missing a few days of it myself.
DoraDingle about 15 years ago
Good Morning, tribe. This is where I was supposed to make my debut today, But I did it 2 weeks earlier. So for those of of you who want to hear me introduce myself again, hi, I’m Dora Dingle, or as they joking called me “Dora The Underwater Explorer”!.

Doggone it!
cleokaya about 15 years ago
Good Morning all.
But, to her great joy, she still can swim and does so everyday, on our lake in the summer.
cleokaya about 15 years ago
Saucy - I was making my comments after the turnover last night, here at Big Top and couldn’t believe that I was actually hearing the rainfall inside the house. It is common for us to get heavy rainfall in the late fall and winter, but not this early.
carmy about 15 years ago
Cleo, I don’t think swimming is allowed at Lake Okeechobee. It’s mostly used for fishing and sailing. They just had a big fish tournament there. A father and his son that were in the tournament were found dead after falling off their boat.

The comics.com fix posted by Akenta on page 2 is missing an “ipconfig /flushdns” step. That’s important.
I’d suggest going to the softsailor.com site mentioned in Akenta’s immediately prior post and reading the entire thread.
Note also that the changes to the “hosts” file Akenta mentioned will have be be backed out / reversed once comics.com fixes their problems.

Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 15 years ago
I have the Mad Blubird on a suncatcher in my kitchen window.
Smiley Rmom about 15 years ago
Hi, carmy! I am SO proud of you for getting that closet cleaned out! Do you want to come and help me gather stuff to donate to the thrift store? I just taped up one box today, but I’ve a lot more junk to sort through.
carmy about 15 years ago
No thanks, RRAmom! I still have to clean out daughter #4’s dresser drawers. I have her new school clothes in a laundry basket and need the space to put them in. The older girls are good at cleaning out their own stuff. THEN, I have to go through my stuff, sigh. I’ll do that later in the week. Luckily my pickup date in not until the 24th, but I’d rather get it done ASAP.
johnnydoc5 about 15 years ago
My computer picked up a wireless signal, I won’t have my own until Thursday or Friday. Terry, as classes don’t start until after Labor day, at least here in Michigan, I have some free time now.
Smiley Rmom about 15 years ago
I live too far out for the DAV (or anyone) to pick up donations. But the thrift store that I take my donations to is close to the dentist’s office, and since I have to go there Thursday, it would be nice to have a loadful to drop off. Of course, with the in-laws coming Friday, it is a higher priority to have things ready for their visit.
Smiley Rmom about 15 years ago

I’ve gotten dinner eaten. Just filing school papers, trying to get my son’s schoolwork assignments ready for tomorrow, and updating my gradebook, so I’ll know what grades to put on his high school transcript. Nothing like multi-tasking!
cleokaya about 15 years ago
Shika - You are one impatient lady.
Shikamoo Premium Member about 15 years ago
Hi Terry! Well, I’m here, for what it is worth! I’m eating a lazy gal’s supper- wild canned tuna, tomatos and a nuked potato.
Doesn’t sound very tasty, but with some apple cider vinegar on the tuna and tomatoes, and butter on the tater, it’s delicious!
cleokaya about 15 years ago
RRAmom - Hello young lady. I admire you for home schooling. That is a tough job. I am friends with a couple who home schooled their son and daughter. Both have turned out to be extremely gifted and genuinely nice people who have always been as comfortable with adults as their peers.
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
Cleo—Some call it multi-tasking, I call it making due and surviving!!
Shikamoo Premium Member about 15 years ago
cleo I’m told I’m an A-type personality. That came as a surprise to me, and most who know me, but it was the impatience that gave me away.
I think I said I knock over little old ladies to get a seat on the bus. LOL
(Just kidding) :-D
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
Shika–I have meals like that from time to time. Sometimes the simple ones are the best and also sometimes it is just making do!!

I don’t know Shika. I am very impatient, but I don’t know if I am a type “A” or not.

(((((TERRY)))))
I know what you mean, LOL!
Cleo I got you attention with the DING-DONG, didn’t I?
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
I had a friend of a friend clasify me as a Type-AB(one that cannot be clearly classified) He said I was too unpredictable and if he diagnosed me any further he would have to write a book! LOL To this day, I’m not sure how to take that! And I have had 2 semesters of psychology!!
Shikamoo Premium Member about 15 years ago
Cleo These are just labels, that’s all. I had to have some tests this spring, and that’s what showed up. I think that I know how to get the job done, and so I am focused that way, but I know how to relax too.
My impatience may be due to my having lived alone for so long that I’m used to doing what I want when I want. But I’m pretty considerate and generous by today’s standards. And very patient where it counts.
Shikamoo Premium Member about 15 years ago
Terry A-B is how I classified myself years ago. Or type C. I’m a type B in a Type A world, or city anyways. That’s what made me blow a fuse last year and so now I’m changing my career to something more suited to my personality.
cleokaya about 15 years ago
I tend to be a procrastinator. After my divorce I lived alone for 6 years, plus I am an only child. My wife is definitely used to being in charge, so occasionally we are like oil and water. I have to admit, I would much rather be doing what I want to do, when I want to do it and my wife sees a job that needs to be done and wants me to do it right away. Her family refers to her as LG - The “Little General”. LOL

Hi Shika and Cleo!
Smiley Rmom about 15 years ago

The last two nights were really slow but tonight shoould be a little busier.

cleo - It is said that opposites attract!

Johnnyd & Dry - Hello folks.

Smiley Rmom about 15 years ago
cleo - Any time kids grow up reading books more than watching TV or movies, they will have a larger vocabulary, better grammar, and be able to handle abstract thinking better. It has been proven that homeschooled kids on the whole, relate better to a wide range of ages, than the typical kid their age. I know my sons enjoy each other’s company much more than my siblings ever did.

Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 15 years ago
Shikamoo Premium Member about 15 years ago
Dry I LOVE horseradish! Hot mustard too! I was shown how to make my own with the dry mustard and vinegar. It’s great for ham.
Horseradish goes well with beef.
Smiley Rmom about 15 years ago
Dry - It does sound like a meal for a cold winter’s evening.

RRAmom I think home-schooled kids are the best. As long as they get some socializing with kids in other ways, which is easy to do.
Sorry about the ice cream. I want another cone too!
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 15 years ago
Shika HORSERADISH GOES WILL WITH EVERYTHING, even spagetti and meatballs!
RRAMom ham pot pie is good in winter, filling and tasty. Like I said you can use a nice beef roast and shred when cooked, or a chicken, but I’ve always preferred the ham. I think some people even use a pork roast to make theirs.

Smiley Rmom about 15 years ago
shika - It is very easy now for homeschoolers to have outside activities with other people. The hardest part is deciding which ones to participate in, as there is never enough time (or money) to do everything that sounds interesting.
cleokaya about 15 years ago
DoctorT - Our importance to you seems to be diminishing drastically as the days go on. As the days get shorter and shorter and shorter, does that mean that soon we won’t see you at all?

Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 15 years ago
Once we had a Christmas party at the office and one of my co-workers bought these REALLY REALLY hot chicken wings, as a prank joke on me because he figured I’d cave at the first or second bite! Everybody caved but me! I ate them all! He said I can’t believe she ate that and didn’t gag, tear up or anything. Then he says, “Do you even have any taste buds left in your mouth?” ROFLMAO
cleokaya about 15 years ago
shika - We do not have a beach because we are on the deepest part of the lake and also near the source, which is good, since we get our drinking water from the lake. It would be nice to have a beach, but I think that being able to dive off of the dock into deep water beats having to wade out until you can finally dive in. Some people have water so shallow around them that it makes it tough to boat. I live on the smallest part of the lake, but it is also the deepest at 140 feet. The lake is only about 8 miles around, so it is cool that it gets that deep.

cleokaya about 15 years ago
Dry - I am the same way. Mr. cast iron stomach. I always order the hottest at a Thai restaurant. I do stop at a certain point though because I want to be able to taste something other than pepper. The only person that I have met that likes food as hot as me is an Iranian friend, who can match me in our love of heat.
johnnydoc5 about 15 years ago
I’ve got school again, of course I’ll sign! Spicy doesn’t affect taste buds, it just burns EVERYTHING! When my uncle was a little kid, he was playing in my Grandma’s garden. He kept touching the jalapeno peppers, and then he had to rub his eyes. He was in pain for a while, as I hear it.

Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 15 years ago
Well my comics.com emails are coming in okay. Hope they fixed the problem and we won’t get that blue screen anymore!
cleokaya about 15 years ago
I have to make a correction to my last post. I used to always order the hottest Thai food, but of late, I have toned down the heat from a five pepper rating, the hottest, to a three. I found that all I tasted was the heat of the pepper. At three you get some heat, but you also are able to taste the other flavors in the dish. I finally learned that it isn’t how much heat I could take, but how much flavor was put forth by the dish.
cleokaya about 15 years ago
Horseradish is a different beast though, because unlike peppers, whose heat lingers, horseradish heat diminishes rapidly. So, I want the hottest I can find. I want my eyes to burn baby.

I think the reason that I can tolerate peppers more than some is that people all have a different amount of taste buds. My theory is that those that can tolerate the most heat have the fewest taste buds.
dpetrill about 15 years ago
P&L ALL!carmy about 15 years ago

All this talk about hot food reminds me of our neighbor, the one who also made chokecherry wine. He makes his own horseradish, so hot that just to be in the house while he made it made me feel sick. It was blow-your-sox-off hot. I don’t like food that is hot or too spicy. My son likes his food really hot. I don’t know where he got that from.

Thanks, Dry!. That was a nice video. I liked the summer/winter scenes. They all sing so well, but Mama Cass was the BEST!

Ma’at- I just caught the rest of your post. I’d love a place like that. I was dancing here in my livingroom to the music we’ve been playing!
Thanks for “California Dreaming” Dry! I loved it.

He’ll never grow up completely, but that’s a good thing!

that Senor Wences tape brought back memories. I actually saw that routine live on Ed Sulllivan.
johnnydoc5 about 15 years ago

In a Catholic school no less!
cleokaya about 15 years ago
Okay, I am going to try to finish the movie I started last night. It doesn’t interest my wife, so I can stop it whenever I want and come back here, which probably explains why I did not advance much more than about a half hour last night.
johnnydoc5 about 15 years ago
That above was from an earlier point that appears to have been dropped. As for the current stream of classic links, I always wish I had been around when they were new. Comedy today is mostly vulgar, and music is worse, gives me a headache too.
johnnydoc5 about 15 years ago
Dry, my sister drools over George too, except she is only 17 and he is dead, so I find that a bit weird.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 15 years ago
Shika Lots of people make fun of that song, but I love it! ALWAYS MAKES ME HAPPY!!!

Dry–Same here about the catholic school. We(the boys) had the fake beatles wigs for our heads!!! LOL My mother has the pictures buried somewhere.

johnny don’t worry about your sister. (LOL)

johnny, that’s so wonderful about Wednesday. You are gonna love hearing all those songs. I’m jealous.

I still am like that.

Cleo Way back when I was still current with the posts, you said you saw Senor live on Ed Sullivan.
Do you mean live, as in the audience? Or live on T.V. I watched him live on T.V.
It was said that if you got on ed’s show, you had it made. It’s also said that Ed thought the Beatles were hokey and put them on for a gag.
Boy, was he wrong! Beatlemania- those were the days, eh, Dry?
carmy about 15 years ago
Goodnight Dry!

I made silk screen T-shirts of the Beatles when I was in highschool.
I still have the T-shirts, and they still fit!
carmy about 15 years ago
My oldest sister is 11 years older than me. When we would see The Beatles live on Ed Sullivan, she would act like she was in the audience. She’d be crying and getting crazy. I was so young, I didn’t know what was wrong with her. LOLS!!

I haven’t been too involved tonight although when I looked back I was rather chatty way early in the morning. Then I had a rant or two which got a little long, but you know, sometimes ya just gotta.

Good Night Dry If you pull a Shika, I liked that last song, as I’m sure did Carmy too!
Beach party days were fun too.

I can still wear the same size shirts I wore when I was 25. I am lucky that my metabolism is so high, cause I eat like a horse and I’ve been at 155 since I was 25. And no I’m not 5’1”. I’m 5’8”. LOL

Carmy- Thanks for Bobby. You too Terry. I always listened to Honey and revelled in the tears. It’s a girl thing, right Dry and Carmy?
Whoops, I think I’m outnumbered here.

moPar, just to let you know that ‘Fresh Air’ has been running through my head all day.
I’ve always hated ‘Honey’. I know, I know, I’m not in the girls’ club.
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
Shika—He’ll show! lol Do you have to work tomorrow?
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
Good evening Marg. Sorry about the song, dear.
Shikamoo Premium Member about 15 years ago
Gee, he sure watches a lot of movies, doesn’t he? It must be nice to have that time with his wife though. I never was much of a movie watcher, but then I don’t watch T.V. anymore either.
Shikamoo Premium Member about 15 years ago
How’s the ear Terry?
Shikamoo Premium Member about 15 years ago
Terry No work. How about you?
Marg Not everyone has to like “Honey” to be in the girls club. I think it was a maulin song that some of us used to feel sorry for ourselves, LOL!
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
There is no hearing in the right ear and there’s almost no chance now that it has been this long! And being that there is no hearing at all a regular hearing aid won’t work! The alternative is a BAHA(Bone Anchored Hearing Aid) which goes behind the ear. I don’t like the looks of it!!
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
I’ve got two cars to fix tomorrow, but nothing major, about three hours work.

COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
Shika—I have been working on cars so long, but it’s like a hobby to me. I really love my profession but I wouldn’t tell anyone to do it anymore now a days. Too difficult to start in terms of wages and tools are expensive.
Shikamoo Premium Member about 15 years ago
This must be the Gropy part of the evening that cleo talked about, LOL
