Wolfangil is always at Wally World. What the big deal with Walmart? I must be missing something.

Is there a problem with Sam’s Club also?

Doc–I never thought of that. Why don’t the others do the same to combat it. Some place drops a price, others follow. A place stays open later, other follow again. Why is it different here?

Dry - I like the combination of the obvious peace of the scene & the possibility of comic relief that’s probably going through the guys’ minds. Just seems appropriate somehow, ehh?!

dcguys I agree with your assessment, I also like the concept of a boy sitting on the dock with his best friend, just the two of them!

Doc–I can understand that. I see what you mean.

HI Terry yes that is why I only go to WalMart when needed. For example, I would sooner pay more for something at a local family owned hardware store that’s been in business for over 50 years, than go to WalMart and put more money in their pockets.! My mom’s first cousin and her husband when they lived in Ark. had breakfast with Sam Walton a couple of times a week. From what they said about the man, I believe he would be rolling over in his grave at what his decendents have done to the business.

Doc–I usually don’t go there with Wolfangil anyhow. Too crowded for my liking. I’m always at Micro Center. I can’t stand to be in long check out lines. One time when I was married(22 yrs old), I left the shopping cart in an aisle, went home, told my Ex where it was and she went back and ran through the check out.

Dry–I’ve seen articles about what Sam Walton would think about the present goings on at Walmart. Not good from what I read! Here in Chicago, it is hard to find locally owned places of business anymore. If I am out in the boonies, I have no problem going to local businesses and paying a little extra. But then there;s Farm & Fleet out in those places too!

Terry - I don’t go to Wal-Mart because it is too big and I prefer my money to be spent at a locally owned business.

Doc–

Wolfangil shops there for the obvious reason………We need to cut costs where ever possible right now. Not much choice here.

Cleo–I wish I had locally owned shops around here. I feel more comfortable in those types of stores. If it wasn’t for my mother being here, we would be living out away from the busy city.

Doc - You might be interested in knowing that in my community, only one national chain grocer has been able to survive an Albertson’s that has been in it’s location since before I came here in 1966. Safeway and Albertsons have tried to open stores here, but and new one closes, even after having been told before they build that they will not be patronized. We have two locally owned chains, both of which have multiple locations in and around town and they thrive.

Terry - We have a family owned Hardware store that has been here for decades. They have watched Ernst put Home Base out of business, then Home Depot put them out of business. We still have a Home Depot and a Lowes, but the locally owned store has employees that can take you through a project and tell you exactly what to do. They steer you away from parts you don’t need. They tell you when you’d do just as well to stay away from an expensive item when a cheaper one works just as well and they are friendly at the same time.

Looks like a good game at 1, Vikings and Ravens.

I made the mistake of buying a dishwasher at Best Buy and a Fridge at a local store. Whenever we need service it takes forever for us to get service from Best Buy. They use repairmen, from Seattle and it takes weeks to get an appointment and last time they didn’t come and we had to call again and wait through endless automated messages. Our local company comes out within a few days. That was the last time I bought any appliance or stereo, etc. from a large national company.

Doc, I became familiar with Piggly Wiggly when I lived in NC. Great store! I think I first went there because the name sounded so cool!

Cleo–I only find those types of stores if I drive 20-25 out from the suburbs here. I do like that atmosphere, but it isn’t to be found around here.

My community is very geared towards shopping at locally owned stores. That is the only reason it works here.

I will not shop at BestBuy. They have screwed me too many times. They do not take back ANY computer programs if they are open. I’ve had three not work and I had to fight to get CREDIT. I told them I didn’t want to buy anymore of their merchndise and they said that was their policy. I finally had to call the corporate office to get satisfaction!

I’m getting worked up now just thinking about all this!

Dry–Troy is supposed to start today!!

And yes the Vikes game is on nationally!!!

The only thing that I miss about not having TV is televised sports. I love football.

@DocT i like bucky, sometimes. used to read get fuzzy fairly regularly, but now, not so much. i liked the stereotype in this strip because it’s used in what i consider the right way - to poke fun at the stereotype rather than at what it’s stereotyping (if that’s an understandable way to phrase it).

Carmy we are having fun, but my walkingbuddy won her heart over. She gave Ana a baby doll for her birthday and she loves it it has a kitty with it. so cute Ana loves her for it more then she did already. Ana is like an adopted grandchild and me an adopted daughter so its funny. Ana is love more then she knows.

cleo, i was about three years old when this picture was taken. i had to crop the scanned copy to use it as an avatar because it was too large the way i got it. my younger sister went through the old family albums my Dad has to put about 250 photos into one of those electronic frames to give him for his birthday. we loaded it through my computer, so i got a copy of all her effort. i may use a couple of others over the next while, but i haven’t made up my mind.

Shika - The plants didn’t die from the rain, but the sheer force of the rain knocked down some leggy perennials that now need to be sheared back and put to sleep for the year. We still have many blooming plants. My wife has planted so that we have plants blooming almost all year long.
