Hi Rmom, I saw your lilacs last night, very pretty. I love the smell of lilacs. Ours are just starting to bloom but we don’t get that many. Enough to bring some inside though.

LuvH8 - I need to go cut some more to bring inside while the lilacs are still in bloom. They don’t seem to last very long, but the smell is wonderful to me. That’s one thing with having 100 lilac bushes, I have plenty of blossoms, as long as a freeze doesn’t hit after the bushes start budding

LuvH8 - As long as you’ve got enough to bring some inside, that will suffice. Our first house only had one or two bushes. It took longer for mine here to get big enough to bloom, because they were just twigs when we planted them. But it was much easier to plant them than more mature bushes, and now that they’ve matured, I really enjoy having that many.

Lonewolf ~ Do you really think I would hurt people to get to chocolate chip cookies? Okay, maybe.

Rmom, that is a lot of lilacs. Do you know when you are supposed to trim back the bushes? They won’t let me play with a chainsaw ) : So I guess I will make them trim!

Rmom–Sure, go ahead and post it, but I’ve sent it to a few already.

LuvH8 - We’ve never trimmed our bushes on purpose. A couple of years after we planted them (while they were still looking like twigs) my father-in-law weedwacked off a few before we got him stopped. He didn’t realize there was a good reason my hubby didn’t mow quite that close to the barbed wire fence. Those few have always been stunted ever since. I like to just let them grow naturally. But if you must cut them back, do it in the winter after they’ve gone into the dormant phase.

Plans! Well due to the recent stuff that has happened in my family, My aunt has asked me to spend some time with my cousin. So of course I will.

If you are close to her probably spending time with her will help all in itself. It might distract her if you do some things that are usually ‘not allowed’ and have the adults pretend not to know, so you are getting away with something. (As a mom I have to suggest that you actually ask ahead of time.) For example since she will be with an adult (you), you could ‘sneak out’ after everyone has gone to bed and go to a restaurant or something for icecream or other junk food. It could be anything really.

Sounds like a good plan.

But really doing something out of the ordinary and possibly a little outrageous might help distract her.
