@rac, Italics and bold are a matter of using *s or _s.

Put one of either before and after text to get italics, two for bold and three for bold italics. Doesn’t work for two letters, for some odd reason.

Good afternoon, Grog, Dry, Rac, bmonk, Sojourner, Luv, Kab, Carmy, Saucy & anyone I missed! Saucy - You might want to check with the places you expect to make appointments, to see if your day off will correspond when they are available. With homeschooling 11 months or so a year, we’ve been doing a 4-day week for many years. When we took Mondays off, it worked well for appointments. When we switched to Fridays off instead (mostly due to the college schedule for the oldest son), I found it more difficult to get appointments always scheduled for that day. And of course, you’ve got to make allowances for emergencies, or at least urgent needs. However, it still works fairly well for us, since we live out in the country.

DoctorT said, about 16 chores ago

I’m formulating a unified theory of housework.

It is impossible, under any circumstances, to have all of either the laundry or dishes done at any given time.

I am convinced that dirty clothes and dishes are able to hide extra-dimensionally only to reappear when the job is otherwise considered done.

Another theory: the dirty dishes (or clothes) that reappear are seed, to maintain the continuity of things that need cleaning in the house; if everything were ever perfectly clean, you’d have to move out or the house would burn down or something, because nobody can live in a perfect home.

Bmonk and Doctor Toon and anyone else There was a picture in our local paper once of a man washing dishes at a car wash. The reporter interviewed him and found out that he had bought a lot of dishes at places like Goodwill. Once a month he dumped all of his dirty dihes in the back of his pick-up truck, took them to the car wash, put them all on the pavement in the car was and hosed them off. He said that way he only had to do dishes once a month!!!!!

Not to be a contrarian, but I have to place the armpit of Texas about halfway between Monahans and Fort Stockton on Texas Highway 18. The name of the town is Grand Falls, and it is not grand, nor are there falls. Its primary claim to fame is the size and ferocity of its flies.

    Hi, Hy

I had to mapquest it. It looks like the kind of town that if you blink, you’ll miss it - just like passing the towns going along the Amarillo/Pampa corridor on Highway 40. There’s nothing to see on that stretch of highway, except for the train traffic.

I suppose a State can have 2 armpits.

Ah, flies. I suppose the worst place for them, in my experience, was Sigonella, Sicily. Big, fat slow things. I was deployed there in the Navy at the time, and the various aircraft maintenance shops began killing and collecting them in a hidous, bizarre contest of sorts, seeing who could accumulate the most. It deteriorated rapidly, however; they tended to decompose rapidly, making them hard to count with any accuracy. We tried measuring them by weight, but they tended to dry out over time, making them lighter. We had no means of refrigerating them, because the rules required that the collection could not leave the shop, so the odor eventually became intolerable, and the 1st Lieutenant made us throw them away. Tragic.

    Ah, flies.

Just stopping by to let you know that I am thinking of you all. My hip pain is a pain int the a$$, so I am making myself useful in the kitchen. I am not in pain when standing, just sitting. So I have made black beans, Orange, Chocolate and Walnut biscotti and am about to make chicken stock. Tonight we have Brazilian Black Beans with tortillas and salsa. I also got a walk in which felt good, but sitting is not so good. Carry on.

Ah, and home. The fence contractor has made progress today; the gap between my yard and the backyard neighbor is closed, and the gap between mine and the side neighbor’s yard is a mere two panels wide. The front is still open, but he’s left some lovely orange net-like-material in the space, supported by an up-ended wheel barrow and a couple of shovels. And I was worried.

An e-mail from the insurance agent; he recommends a million dollars in liability insurance, now that we have the pool. Pshaw….done, and done.

    And now, Budweiser.

Miley is the daughter of a country artist, and has demonstrated a propensity for being, shall we say, “age inappropriate” in her behaviour.

Her music is categorized as “pop”, and she’s quite popular with the paparazzi. A recent photograph, which I have not seen, is purported to have captured her exiting a limousine in a rather unladylike manner and demonstrating a lack of undergarments.

I have never been to Tulsa.

A bit of historical insight may be helpful regarding the end of the song….Russian prisoners of war were considered traitors, and assigned to labor camps. Most died without seeing their families, who often were interned as well because their fathers were, well, traitors.
