    Good Evening Little Sister

That is an impressive Holiday Menu! May I have a Classic BLT, made less classic with the addition of cream cheese? And I will just help myself to some of these vegetables.

You know this lemon meringue pie looks a little close to the edge, I will just move it to a safe place (that way I don’t have to share)

I will be happy to make breakfast tomorrow. If I can’t find the recipe, I will improvise. I am also curious about the recipes that involve lime jello and assorted vegetables.

Maybe if we start a fire we can put the fireworks beside it to dry out faster?

Here In Wichita, KS there is suppose to be a baseball game with fireworks after. I don’t care for sports and it’s been raining most of the day here. I’m glad everyone enjoyed the desert. And I crashed last night I haven’t been able to sleep very good for a week. Off work tomorrow. Hey all remember NO MAIL OR BANKING Monday considered a holiday.

Lonewolf sounds like my grandparents. I go by this saying when people marry in their 30’s the parents of the 30 something are older and when children enter the picture they loose out. My mom’s mom I don’t have a pleasant memories of her. My dad’s grandma she also was getting cripled, she used to walk without crutches then as she got older did. None of the grandparents ever did with the grandkids what Ladywolf did with her.

My son when he was young would go to this small resturant club and bar there was a pool table there and he and others would have to put .25 in to play pool just for fun. I think there where times they would play for sport but for small money. Not sure of that mostly just for fun. He is 27 and goes no where and I’m trying to get him to at least ride his bike. I was watching a baby in church today getting passed around. Mom & Dad were there, but Aunt, Grandma & Great-Grandma all held him for a bit. One of my grandmas had died before I was born, the other had so many grandkids, that being 15th meant I didn’t get any one-on-one time that I remember. (Both grandpas died when I was a baby.) My great-grandparents were long gone by the time I came along.

Rmom this is so cool more to talk with. Wichita is suppose to have it. I thought about going to Haysville or Garden Plain or Goddard but grass is way too wet. Last two years we went to Newton where my sister and hubby live had barbeque then walked the cancel and watch sitting on chairs. Not this year. My brother-in-law had a medical scare with his dad and had to go to Hillsboro to spend the night there. I know anyone can read this so here comes a commercial not a spammer. They make a homemade mustard called Grannie’s mustard with different flavors Monday. Just heard on the news the above towns I mentioned cancelled their fireworks with the exception of Wichita due to all that rain.

Kab - Neighbors started shooting off here the other night. I guess they just do some whenever there is a break between the rains. We frequently have guests for the holiday, but I just wasn’t up to doing all the work to get ready this year. With the rains, it is just as well. We’ve got some leftover fireworks from last year, so our youngest will shoot them off - I think.

Shortly after we moved here, and the trees were shorter and fewer, we could sit in our hot tub on our deck and watch the fireworks in Wichita. We knew we were seeing Wichita, because it was River Festival. On the 4th, we could watch Mulvane, Udall and lots of the neighbors. That is one disadvantage of planting trees - now we can’t watch the fireworks as easily. But it is still better than fighting crowds & traffic, paying admission, and standing in line to use the bathroom.

Kab - I saw it was moved to June. Since we quit going years ago, I didn’t make note of exactly when. My mom didn’t spend much money on my kids, but she would play Scrabble, dominoes, and other games with them. They’d sit on her lap and watch “Wheel of Fortune” with her. She sewed them quilts - custom made to their requests. If I ever become a grandma, I want to spend time with and pay attention to my grandkids. Not that spending a little money is a bad thing, but I’d rather be loved for me, not my bank account.

Doc - At least you don’t work on commission. My husband was saying this would be a bad weekend to be a bread salesman. He would go around before the 4th and stock shelves with lots of buns. Then if it rained, he had to go around and pick it all back up, AND deduct those commissions from his pay.

Rmom my mom does not spend time or money with her only two grandkids. My sister has a female dog and she gives the dog treats. I don’t mean money is everything but it’s one word I should never use around her. Our dad’s request to her long before he passed on was to spend the money. She thinks she does until that comes when Uncle Sam wants his share. When the kids where babies to a little older they would spend time with both grandparents. Our son would play dominios with me his sister or anyone. As adults they get bored at her house. She has no computer and just regular tv.

Kab - My Dad was the tightwad, and since he died first, Mom could spend money without him getting upset about it. Although, she was never a spendthrift, so she didn’t get into financial troubles. They were generous to their church, missionaries, and kids on mission fields that they “adopted” through the church’s relief program. So at least when tax time rolled around, they usually had enough deductions to not have a big tax bill. When I was scanning pictures for Mom’s funeral, I found pictures of her & Dad posing with their “adopted” child on the mission field. The little girl was wearing a dress that my mother sewed for her. They didn’t just give money, they gave their time & talents.

Kab - My sons got pretty bored at my mom’s, once she moved in town. That’s one reason when we move, I’d like to have a “recreational room” with at least a pool table. Gives them something more active to do, without getting too rowdy - usually. My folks had a ping pong table in their basement, so that helped, but it is really hard to play solitare ping pong.

I balanced her checkbook each month and handled their investment money, so if there were any big bills, I wrote the checks, so she didn’t complain. Dad worked hard with rental properties and the farm, in addition to working at Boeing. So at least they had more than SS when he retired, and the house & car were paid off.

Kab - I wouldn’t worry about “hogging” the comments. I’m sure they’ll pop in if they have something to say. Doc - Maybe you won’t have to work quite as hard restocking the shelves when you return to work, if it is cooler. Of course, there are some people (even in my family) who don’t care what the outside temperatures are, they’ll eat ice cream year round. I like ice cream, but for the sake of my waist line, I try to eat it in moderation, because I’d rather have a little of the good stuff, than a lot of the “diet” stuff.

Rmom I was referring to my parents. My dad handled all money manners treated mom like she didn’t know anything. Long after his death, and he knew it was coming, mom always wished he would continue taking care of those bills she does it and gets with the bank officers to make sure she is right. We always knew when something big was coming she wouldn’t like it. My mom is very much alive and at 85. My dad worked at Boeing he thought that was the only place going. He retired from Boeing with only 12 years missed 20 years due to layoffs and had to leave Wichita for other jobs. That was back in 1999 months before I graduated from WATC in June of 2000. What type of job did your dad have? Mine did jig building where he also got hurt on the job and his falt he admitted. I think Jig building got outsourced ages ago.

With what Doctor Toon was saying about stocking shelves this puzzles me, I always thought once stores shelves where stocked whatever the product stayed until sold?

James and I were getting ready for the fireworks tonight and it just started raining. James is not a happy camper right now.

Lonewolf a lot of small towns cancelled there fireworks but Wichita, and I know you live elsewhere, is having there’s but instead of baseball a movie. Right now along our street neighbors are shotting fireworks. With not being dark yet not effective.

Kab - Many neighbors here(Chicago suburb) are also doing fireworks, but it’s too light out. You’re right, not effective!

While the permission is being given a little late, other latecomers may order CocoMocha spiked with whatever spirits they wish, from Kahlua to peppermint schnapps to Bailey’s Irish Creme to…whatever.

Sorry for the miscommunication - this is what I was referring to:

Kab Buch said, about 1 hour ago:

“Rmom thats great of your grandparents.”

I probably should have made it more clear that I was talking about my parents, not my grandparents.

    Welcome back, Terry & Johanan!

I think I will sleep in the wood shed. Boston got beat by Baltimore who the Cubs could beat. To add insult to injury, SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED is throwing a damned Yankee victory in my face. Whats that song about drink muddy water and sleep in a hollow log, I thought this was supposed to be a holiday. There is no joy in Mudville—-

I can only hope tomorrow that Winky will put a smile below my tear reddened eyes and your cheery posts will get me through the realization that that damned overpaid team from hell is going to beat us again.

FIREWORKS IN 25 MINS! OOH! AHH!

    Oh look, a kitty cat.

Terry - I’m sure James is disappointed. At least the rain right now is hitting other parts of KS, so we’ll be able to shoot some at our house. I think all of ours are the night kind, so no point getting in a hurry just yet. Lew - There’s no fighting/gloating, etc. in our house about sports. Neither one of us even watches or follows them. This bothers my brothers (all single & childless) immensely that we didn’t indoctrinate our sons into sports. Oh, one son will play soccer or basketball if there’s a chance, but no spectators. We’re about as knowledgeable about sports as Doctor Toon.

If it’s possible to have negative knowledge about sports, I may well qualify.

A few years ago, and out of sheer necessity (plus they were on sale), I had to buy a good number of Texas Longhorns T-shirts on a trip (I’d forgotten all the ones I owned at home), and now way too many passersby think I’m a Texans fan. In fact what little I know about them is probably misinformation, which makes my knowledge of them “negative”.

Terry - As long as James can shoot off some himself, he won’t be too deprived. I think kids have more fun shooting them off than us older folks, plus they can run faster after they light them!

Will someone please go back through and flag the spammers? They just started showing up this evening. I’m at FBOW and my filter won’t let me read the comments on that strip, Foxtrot & Garfield, and I think it has something to do with the spam. (Haven’t looked farther than that.) Of course, with my luck the mods took the evening off.

Johanan - Sometimes I like to throw the rabid sports fans and ask questions during playoffs like: “what season is it?”, “Where are the _ from?” I’m too honest to do the ones like “how many innings are in basketball?” and since my Dad liked baseball, and two brothers are wrestling & football fans, I’m not as ignorant as that.

Well all I am not a sports fan myself. I stepped outside for awhile neighbors getting active on fireworks. So I went where it’s firecracker to works nosy to read a little of my book. The rain has stopped for a while here but according to the weatherman still have more coming. I am going to sign off for now and listen to either what’s on tv or outside then get ready for bed. Nice sleeping sound for a change instead of being up all week. Rmom sorry I was not aware that was your parents thank you for clearing that up. But I was for myself talking about my mom. All my grandparents are gone. Last one passed on in 1975 I think lived to be 92.

Good Independence Day Evening to those who are still here!

    Kab, I loved your picture.

Oddly enough we had a great day weatherwise in my neck of the woods….I’m not sure about Pasadena and I don’t care right about now….at least until Tuesday. Rain chances increase again as the week goes on. Oh Joy!
