Please pardon this Jungian ENFP’s ingrained need for attention, but what do you think of this Noble Eagle avatar button (based on the latest from Birdbrains)?
I think that if we’re going to comment on each other’s avatars, we should do it more consistently so that some of us don’t feel left out. I think everybody puts a good amount of effort into picking their avatars and it shouldn’t be a select few who get patted on the head for it.
In other words, if we’re going to be Yappers, we can add a thing or two to our yapping… :)
Until further notice (like, the Twelfth of Never), CocoMocha will have the permanent option of spiking with the spirits of your choice, whipped cream, cinnamon, or combinations of the above.
Thanks to Chris Alan Starbright (the Hooded Man), inventor of Starbright’s Divine CocoMocha, for granting permission to me as Terran Distributor to enable you to have the above options.
We would have commented on yours, too, if you were showing it off at the time we were talking about it, which was before the 4th admittedly - and not after
And Grog, Ladywolf and Others: While I appreciate the honor of having my name attached to CocoMocha, perhaps you could consider using its proper brand name, Starbright’s Divine CocoMocha. (I could make that easier by letting Chris Alan take over the job, avatar and all, of correspondence here…)

Morning TRIBE!I still have 5 fingers on one hand and 4 1/2 on the other
Good late morning all I’m off for today. Here in KS a lot of small towns surrounding Wichita called off fireworks as it started to rain again at 9:30. Neighbors had theres so we watch what we could. I had trouble getting to sleep last night a lot of booming going on. And I was good I sign* stayed away from chocolate. This if for the ones wanting coffee. I don’t drink it.
Grog I just saw your Grand Canyon pictures very nice. How I miss taking vacations. You have other nice pictures. I missed where did you and misses go on your cruise?
For those frustrated with computers I found this I thought it was funny and I would like to do the same. Though this maybe old news to some.
Doc Toon I just wondered and thanks for answering my question. Like most stores when stocking shelves I thought it moved with customers bought it up. I have seen bear shelves in stores.
FYI, I am not married. Though I’ve been boating and taken some tours, I have not been on a cruise. Living on the Gulf Coast, I can see a lot of incredible things I suppose within a reasonable driving distance.
Grog the pictures you took even the cruise ship was great. Beautiful picture of the Grand Canon. Very nice scenery I didn’t go through all the pictures too many. As with Rmom pictures too many to go through.
Doc toon good night to for 3rd shifters can’t stray off schedule.
Since I’m off today no pay I guess I and my hubby will eat out for a change. Though we can fix healthier here just a change of pace. Then have to go my mom’s help her with her VCR to run a VHS tape.
Good afternoon, tribe! Even if it is raining like crazy, and has been all night & morning. We’re under a flood warning here, but at least the rain has been falling at the right angle that it hasn’t caused the basement to start leaking. I hope it doesn’t! At least hubby & son got another row of tar paper up (besides a row of siding) so there is a little more protection from rain on that side of the house.
Kab - My Dad was usually a supervisor - sheet metal fabrication. When they were doing layoffs, he got “busted back to the bench” because he didn’t have any college, just the continuing ed classes Boeing offered. Once in a while, he had more than one department to supervise (probably until someone was promoted to fill a slot), so it wasn’t just sheet metal fab. One time he was supervisor over the sewing department, and then he tried to tell my mom how to sew. That didn’t go over too well! LOL! My mom had been sewing since high school, and was excellent at it.
Hi, Luv! I can fold paper birds that flap their wings when you pull their tails. Mom taught me to sew when I was 7, and if I did it all the time like she did, I’d probably be pretty good at it, but I’m out of practice. With babies, building our house, and then homeschooling, I just didn’t have time or space to sew much through the years. She did most of her sewing in the daytime while we were at school.
I have done very little on a sewing machine. Most of my sewing is repairs or slight adjustments. I can be neat if I want to, but sometimes if I do that it becomes a little umm…… obsessive. So I try to avoid that.
Luv - I haven’t had the time to do big sewing projects, but for several years I have at least tried to do most of the repairs and slight adjustments rather than having Mom do them. Altering those pants into shorts & making pockets was probably the most sewing I’d done in years. I will never be the seamstress Mom was, but I would like to be able to sew up dresses for myself, and other items that I just can’t buy to suit me.
I am capable of being obsessive with sewing, but since I don’t like to rip out stitching, that cures me of it pretty well. Unless I think it will affect the functioning or be obvious to the casual observer, I can usually let minor errors slide by.
Maybe now that you are almost done homeschooling you can do more sewing? I can be obsessive with a lot of things. Somewhere along the line it occurred to me that most of it was a waste of time and energy though. Why does the floor have to be spotless, if you are just going to walk on it? Does it always matter if you spel evry wird write? Stuff like that.
I can never be obsessive with housecleaning! I only am obsessive in areas where what I do, stays done. Of course, the older and more worn out I get, I have less energy to do things as well as I’d like. Speaking of which, I suppose I ought to see what work I can do around here…
We usually take off from sometime in May (depends on how long it takes to get finished with that year’s books) until the 5th of July. So, normally, we would have been out of school for a month or longer, and just getting ready to start a new year tomorrow. But, this isn’t a normal year.
When we switched from taking off Mondays to taking Fridays off, my husband said it was okay as long as if he was home for a holiday, that we didn’t do school. It was nice this morning, he browned sausage & made the gravy, and I made biscuits from scratch for a late breakfast. I think he finally got all of the vehicle projects (at least the 1-day size) done this weekend. It rained too much to work on the siding today.
I’m just puttering around the house. A little laundry, a little dishwashing, discarding old magazines & catalogs, etc.
The Magnificent Seven was a remake of the Japanese Film Seven Samurai, which is also excellent. And Fistful of Dollars was from Yojimbo, which I have as yet been unable to see. :-(
Speaking of The Blues Brothers Mall scene, Grog, back in my callow youth, I (well, my family) shopped in the Dixie Square Mall in Harvey, IL on occasion. We also lived in a “Polish Bungalo” very much like one of the boarding houses the brothers later visit–only our house was a mirror image of the one in the movie.
@Rmom, hope you survive the floods and deluges. We got just a trace this morning–a reasonable chance of showers this afternoon thru tomorrow evening/night. Best part is how it has cooled off last night and today, so we can get the church and all cooled off for our Centennial this week!
BTW, Tomorrow we have a Centennial Vespers for the Consecration of St. Mary’s Church with a historical (and dryly hysterical…) presentation followed by an Ice Cream Social, and next Sunday we have the main celebration of Mass and Dinner. After all, as St. Bernard said, this particular celebration is so peculiar to us that, if we don’t celebrate it, it won’t get celebrated.
LW18 (LADYWOLF), are there still some Holiday Leftovers? I’d really like:
Deluxe Mushroom burger (Angus, if possible)
Side Dishes: side order of fries
fruit salad
pasta salad
cantaloupe
Vegetable platter bits (Tomatoes, Broccoli, cauliflower, carrot sticks, celery sticks, and asparagus)
Is there any Swiss Cheese to put on that Mushroom Burger?
cupcakes with red white and blue frosting complete with sprinkles
apple pie (is anything else legal on a true American holiday??)
Hot fudge sundae
Star Spangled Jello Shooters
Independance Day Punch
Doc T’s Worlds Famous Nuclear Coffee cut with
Johanan Rakkav’s most Delicious Cocoa Mocha
@DocT, if they used Nuclear Coffee on the fireworks, you could stand off, oh, 50 or 60 miles and still have a good view. Probably better than the viewers…errr, survivors from Ground Zero.
The bottle rockets did not fall into the Nuclear Coffee. How could you suggest such a thing? The Nuclear Coffee fell into the fireworks, including the bottle rockets.
I think it is because I just remembered I have some and it will annoy the teenagers occupying the room. I’m just not always an angel I guess. Despite appearances.
bmonk - Flooding doesn’t bother us out here in the country, near as bad as those in Wichita where they built houses with basements in fields that flooded regularly. Out where I live, we still have fields that handle the extra water.
I’m not sure if bottle rockets are allowed in KS, but we at least can have some fireworks that are still fun. We think one of our neighbors has connections to get professional level fireworks, but we didn’t bother to watch this year.
I’m allergic to fleas, and got bit so bad lying down in the back seat of our recently purchased truck that I looked like I have chickenpox. Just didn’t feel like spraying repellent or getting mosquito bit, plus with the rain, the fireworks around us were shot off at varying times, instead of most on the same evening.
I know I’m getting forgetful - I haven’t located the leftover roman candles from last year yet. Drat!
EMET, I’m lurking about, but only occasionally. If you have something to say, might as well say it as soon as you get the opportunity, and I’ll pick up on it as soon as my work load permits.
Interesting comment by you on a quiet (smothered?) 4th of July. Maybe an unreconstructed theocratic monarchist like me can get a hearing. Thinking that republican checks and balances can solve the problem of human nature is like thinking that arsenic-laced peanut butter is made less dangerous by spreading it over a wider portion of a piece of bread.
Doc, I’m not really a crowd person either. I can understand how Mighty Mouse might enjoy the crowd though. All the Ooooooh’s and Aaaaaah’s, sometimes we would make a really big deal out of that. Plus it is always exciting if you can burn food outside and eat it with the ash on it.
Okay, I’ve decided you definitely need to do something. What I am not sure. Maybe some of the fireworks that make fun noises? Special holiday food? You can get the burned effect on hot dogs, by cooking them in a frying pan if it is too wet for a barbecue. Just don’t turn them much.
Good Afternoon, ♠Lonewolf♠, EMET (A), Rmom, bmonk, LuvH8, Johanan, Ladywolf, Doctor Toon & anyone else I may have missed.
Things have picked up a bit since I decided to get some work done.
bmonk, tonight I will be watching the original Maltese Falcon. I’ve never seen it before. I will follow it up with the better known version starring Bogart tomorrow night.
@DocT, up around Devil’s Lake, NE Dakota, they have plenty of lakefront cabins. Some of them used to be quite a few miles from the lake…the ones that started as lakefront are now under the water…
Doc - It is tough figuring out how a blind person can also enjoy something. One of the quadruplets who my Mom (& Dad sort of) “adopted” as their grandchildren is blind. When I was giving away stuff Mom had made, I had to think hard about what she would be able to enjoy. Even tougher, is one of her sisters has severe celebral palsy. Thankfully, Mom crocheted several afghans, so they’ll have something to remember my Mom by.
Good evening everyone. Rmom you talked about fields being flooded, well when I have to go to work pt I have to travel MacArthur road west and that goes across Cowskin Creek I have seen it touch the road, one time so much rain I had to head to HWY 400 or 54. At Eldorado some homes and business are on stilts not the cars. We have more rain coming the one in Harper will get us here. More mowing time.
Ladywolf I looked up what you where talking about on DSPS. Some does describe me some not. For I’m an early riser mostly 7am regardless if I don’t get to sleep. And late afternoon I dozed off for 30 min. It has to do with some meds I’m on. A few are relaxers.
BMonk congrats on your church major birthday with ice cream to. Not to many survive. Not enough people attend.
bmonk for some churches I guess the ones that are big will survive. Where my family goes is big, not as big as a couple that I know of, for awhile people where wondering what was going to happen, but if it will survive. Went through a lot of Pastors. I have seen small churches die.
Rmom It’s thundering here the one from sw is getting closer more rain.
That oil has now reached TX. And BP is saying there going broke. Should have fixed the problem long before it happened.
On news strangest thing two live horses driven carriage spooked and ran into a flot carring a 60 year grandmother and injured children and adults. The hrses driven carriage is part of 4th July parade.
I read past comments for sewing I could not find anyone patient to teach me right and I lost interest. Even my mom doesn’t know how to teach. Too impatient. I just do repairs or sew buttons.
Kab, clean up operations are so costly, that wouldn’t surprise me, however I saw no news on them going broke. If they did, who would pay the clean-up bill?
You’d think the oil companies are now re-visiting their spill contingency plans for gulf coast drilling.
Well my mom who has been watching on TV about it is saying there running out of money. Everyone knows how massive it is. Now TX is starting to see and FL is experiencing the oil.
With the embarrassingly large & record-setting profits the oil companies had made over the years, I doubt any of them could go broke. Of course it could happen if everyone boycotted BP.
Good evening both of you. Ladywolf I looked up DSPS I’m almost there short of waking up. I’m early riser. There is something else personal all people do that also wakes me up only I feel more have to go more there fore with the meds I take makes me more relaxed one would think I have no trouble sleeping, not. On weekends though I have dozed off for 30 min. Have to really watch any caffeen. My drinks no caffeen at all. I quit hot chocolate a long time ago :( had to. I don’t chew anytype of gum. Can’t stand the taste.
How was both of your days. Mine quite. Since it’s rainy take shower early and go to bed, I have to have it quite no noise and that is one of my problems.
Hello LuvH8 in our neck of woods here we have another storm going with more rain. How was your day today.
Flooding conditions. I hope the route I usually take I don’t have to go farther because of what is called Cowskin creek floods. Some areas have up to between 1” to 3 to 5” of rain on water soaked fields.
I had a great day. I had to help fix a broken part in the fence today. I guess the horses got freaked out by the fireworks and broke the fence trying to get out…. I don’t know. I’m still trying to figure it out.
Hurray, Terry!Sojo - It has been coming down really hard, but starting to lighten up a bit now.
At least it held off long enough for my hubby & I to make a trip to buy milk, get fuel, and eat at our favorite Mexican restaurant. Just started raining when we got home, but at least we didn’t get drenched.
With LuvH8 and fireworks together I thought it was best to lay low. Actually, when I went off-line to work on a problem with the software I have I needed to access my e-mail over my LAN to get it on my laptop. All my internet worked except for accessing that one page. Had to call my internet provider to try to solve it. Soon after trying to fix it I lost all internet connection. After working on it for more than an hour I was told my modum was fine and the problem had to be my router. I was connected to a router specilist for an hour, after concluding my router was fine I was told it was my firewall. Just to humor them I turned my firewall off but still had no connection. I just got it working this afternoon.
That sound like me and now the 2nd half of fireworks begin. About going to bed. Sojourner are you in KS if not be glad. Weather man says more rain. I have to unwind no trouble with computer. Not sure about facesheet either. Have, I hope, my final Dr. appointment with Hand specialist for my Rt shoulder. It’s been healing nicely will forever have surgical scar. I hope I have no more problems like that again and with this Dr. he does right the first time. I’ve told others about him and they’ve been surprise he works on shoulders. Not sure how much extensive work mine was just repairs.
You all enjoy your visit. Signing off. Just want to get to sleep I hope before midnight, not fun.
LADYWOLF - It helps you to realize how much you depend upon having a conection. Besides bills, purchesses, TV shows, etc. it has me now also readng GoComics and keeping up with the TRIBE!
speaking of keeping up with the Tribe
hello to all. my schedule has hit enough of a lull that i can try to catch up a bit with those i’ve been missing. first things first, however. a deposit into the karma bank for those in need.
(((Tribe)))
greetings to Sojourner as you appear to me to be a new member of this motley crew. as well as the usual “Hi” sent in the directions of Lonewolf, Rmom, LuvH8, LW18, & Kab. no time to read the day’s happenings, but i had to say hello and look around the funny pages. off to the tour!

Hi, Luv! I can fold paper birds that flap their wings when you pull their tails. With babies, building our house, and then homeschooling, I just didn’t have time or space to sew much through the years. She did most of her sewing in the daytime while we were at school.
Ooops! Premium Member over 14 years ago
I have done very little on a sewing machine. Most of my sewing is repairs or slight adjustments. I can be neat if I want to, but sometimes if I do that it becomes a little umm…… obsessive. So I try to avoid that.
Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago
Luv - I haven’t had the time to do big sewing projects, but for several years I have at least tried to do most of the repairs and slight adjustments rather than having Mom do them. Altering those pants into shorts & making pockets was probably the most sewing I’d done in years. I will never be the seamstress Mom was, but I would like to be able to sew up dresses for myself, and other items that I just can’t buy to suit me.
Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago
I am capable of being obsessive with sewing, but since I don’t like to rip out stitching, that cures me of it pretty well. Unless I think it will affect the functioning or be obvious to the casual observer, I can usually let minor errors slide by.
Ooops! Premium Member over 14 years ago

I would never send anyone to bed without their dinner (dessert ~ yes) It is a good way to get woken up in the middle of the night.
Poof!Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago

Catching up with two or three days of comments–
The Magnificent Seven was a remake of the Japanese Film Seven Samurai, which is also excellent. And Fistful of Dollars was from Yojimbo, which I have as yet been unable to see. :-(
Speaking of The Blues Brothers Mall scene, Grog, back in my callow youth, I (well, my family) shopped in the Dixie Square Mall in Harvey, IL on occasion. We also lived in a “Polish Bungalo” very much like one of the boarding houses the brothers later visit–only our house was a mirror image of the one in the movie.
bmonk over 14 years ago
Deluxe Mushroom burger (Angus, if possible) Side Dishes: side order of fries fruit salad pasta salad cantaloupe Vegetable platter bits (Tomatoes, Broccoli, cauliflower, carrot sticks, celery sticks, and asparagus) Is there any Swiss Cheese to put on that Mushroom Burger?
cupcakes with red white and blue frosting complete with sprinkles apple pie (is anything else legal on a true American holiday??) Hot fudge sundae
Star Spangled Jello Shooters Independance Day Punch
Doc T’s Worlds Famous Nuclear Coffee cut with Johanan Rakkav’s most Delicious Cocoa Mocha

I’d fire off some left-over bottle rockets, but they are illegal in West Dakota this year. You have to go to the big stuff, like at least M-80s….

bmonk over 14 years ago
@LuvH8, are those the bottle rockets that fell into the Nuclear Coffee?
bmonk over 14 years ago
@LuvH8, I’m not sure. Why *do* you have this sudden urge for smoke bombs?
bmonk over 14 years ago
@DocT, if they used Nuclear Coffee on the fireworks, you could stand off, oh, 50 or 60 miles and still have a good view. Probably better than the viewers…errr, survivors from Ground Zero.
Ooops! Premium Member over 14 years ago

Drat!
bmonk over 14 years ago
@LuvH8, something like that. Actually, we moved in for Christmas 1908, so it’s been 101.5+ years, but this is the anniversary of the Consecration.
@Rmom, I hear you, on flooding, on people building houses in flood plains, and on rain (or lack therof) interrupting fireworks.

Ooops! Premium Member over 14 years ago
