hi Cleo, Rmom, Grog, Johanan, DocT, RwB, Terry, Kab, Montana Lady, Lewreader, Carmy, LuvH8, & Frankr. i was watching actual “animal full frontal nudity” for a little while on TV Sunday. one of TCM’s little filler things. it was about Sweden, and included scenes in a zoo with bears standing in anticipation of being fed. it was shot in the 1940’s or thereabouts, and raved about “electricity and telephone service being available in all parts of the country.” kind of neat to see these old travelogues.
Hey out there, peoples–good morning! LW, Some steak and eggs–over medium–please and some of Docs coffee with creamer. I’m headed for a dental appointment soon and need STRENGTH even though it is just one filling.
Hi, yyyguy!
I’m trying to remember when my grandparents house got electricity. (Well, it was before I was born, just trying to remember what my parents told me.) Seems like it was after WW2. I know that where my parents lived in Wichita around 1950 they only had an outhouse - not sure if there was running water in the house, or only outside. At that point, my two oldest brothers had been born. I just can’t imagine using cloth diapers under those conditions!
Hi, hope&joy, Luv & Carmy!hope&joy - My sons say they hate the cleanings more than they do the fillings, because they don’t numb them for the cleanings.
Hello again ♠Lonewolf♠ MontanaLady, Frankr, Woodyeye, Ladywolf, Johanan, Lewreader & RwB, Grog,Doctor Toon,Dry,Rmom,LuvH8,Love&PieceJoy, MisngNOLA, aircraft-engineer ,yyyguy,Carmy
Finished with my appointment and I keep forgeting one item put lotion on my surgery scar. Scar is going down.
Hope I don’t get that management penguin again. Does anyone know what that is about or is Gocomics tect working on there site?
hopeandjoy2 I just backed up to yesterday’s comment and saw yours. You and Ladywolf are very nice. I’ve been informed from the younger ones at Jr. college they’re been older ones. I just don’t like being in debt that much and have to divide my two paychecks between Jr. college and credit card. Since I have my college books, I plan to start after I get my book finished. I try to read before bed time I figure each page I turn much closer to finishing.
don’t know, Kab. it shows up on occasion and i can’t do anything but leave the site. thankfully, it has let me return for a while. time to finish the toon tour and the crossword puzzles and then start to plan my weekend trip. (which may wind up being just a day trip. does that make me a “Day Tripper?”)
I was not sure if it was on my internet. I know the one where I work at and have to share grrrrr DIO or tech says Windows came crupted. I told them I didn’t do facebook, myspace or anything else. Don’t know what caused that.
When I finally got back on notice there where comments so I thought it was only me. I know there is time difference around.
it’s funny, Kab, considering how much reading i do (i’m never without a book at hand); but i never liked reading for school assignments and always found it difficult.
I was wondering too what would happen due to all those falsies… I was just too, em, reserved to say so.
I wish I could remember where I found the survey, taken in 2000 I believe, and available online. It was put out by a major association of engineers in America. Its members were asked to name the 100 most significant engineering developments of the 20th century.
At the top of the list (and justly so): “electrification”. That made everything else possible. And that great strength of our modern age is also its Achilles’ heel. As a pastor I knew once put it, we’re just an extension cord away from the Stone Age.
With that unsettling thought in mind, I leave the rest of you to your brunch…
yyyguy are you on vacation I envy you. Do you have a job or retired?
Paper had where some are retiring early. 63 year old insurance agent parent company closed his office and he can’t get anything planning to go for SS. I would like to tell him to to Senior Services to see if there is anything available for older people.
By the way it never occured to me to refresh with the penguin. Not sure it will work?
yyyguy I see people with pleasure reading books for fun all the time. Then when schools get started with school books. I don’t plan to tell my mom and sister about this since I’m hoping for a better job. On Medical Encoding and billing.
Rmom thought I let you know around Wichita 1st student school buses are getting to know there routes.
I told my son if he had got with them he be working and starting to get a paycheck now.
Thanks, Doc! I think I got it fixed.
Johanan - Sometimes I embarrass my hubby & sons with what I’m willing to mention…
Kab - They are always looking for school bus drivers. I can understand why, because I had to ride a bus to & from school every day until I had my own car.
Kab i’m on vacation the rest of the week and work a steady afternoon shift the rest of the time. i’m not ready for retirement, yet, as i turned 53 at midnight. when work gets too busy, i don’t get the time to visit here as much as i’d like; but it beats the alternative (which i know some of the people i chat with on this site are dealing with).
yyyguy I’m not ready for retirement myself. What would one do if one’s boss asked that type of question? It happen to me and I told such boss I’m along way from retirement. Although employer’s think I should be for highering younger ones. I told him though employer’s don’t want people my age. I think that got him thinking he is 65 and I think and I hope this is his last year. Dept where I work at, it’s a very big dept in different location’ s, Manager has put in a hiring freeze and if a position needs filled each dept has to justify hiring. I’ve heard of some areas when someone leaves don’t get filled. Budgets.
I still envy you on your vacation. I don’t get one just loose pay if not there.
For one thing, electrification makes it possible for me to create, and then to play, the songs listed on my Earthlight Orchestra page…
Yeah, I’ve mentioned this here who knows how many times before. And guess what? I don’t care. :))
Right now I’m listening to a newly tweaked version (MP3, not available online) of my favorite original song, Hey, Christopher Alan. My bloodstream is filled with CocoMocha - and while I do have some difficult tasks ahead of me today, for the moment all is definitely right with the world.
Sweet dreams, Doc! (And hopefully no fighting cats in your bed!)
Hi, Frankr! - Which time zone are you in?
Johanan - I’m really thankful for electricity & indoor plumbing! It is kinda scarey to think how we’d live without those now that we don’t have the old-fashioned methods around to fall back on. I guess we’d be building outhouses, etc. in a hurry!
belated Happy Birthday to you, Carmy. if memory serves, my first visit here was when the Tribe was celebrating someone’s birthday. that was the day we went to 11 pages of comments. a record i don’t think has been beaten. thanks to all the well wishers.
(((Tribe)))
it might have been for Marg but i’m not sure any more. some of the longer term members might recall. as for me, it’s time to go. see you all in the funnies.
Frankr - I don’t think we’ve got very many eastern time zone members here. Carmy & Dry are the only ones I know of off the top of my head. Well, I don’t know which time zone yyyguy is in, as I’m terrible at Canadian geography. (Have to look at a map every time.)
Frankr - I’ve only been in CT once. My hubby bought a car on ebay, I flew to pick it up & drive it home. I didn’t have any time to sight-see, as it was, I barely got home before an ice storm hit here. My sister lived in NJ for a number of years, so I’ve seen more of NJ & NYC. Our ancestors helped settle CT, so that makes it special to me.
Hi back to Doc Toon, RMom and Kab, you have a good attitude, girl. Hi Carmey, hope you had a happy birthday AND…Happy Birthday YYYGUY…wish I knew if your name is pronounced WhyGuy or YeeeeeGuy or triple Y guy.
Dentist visit was pretty easy this time….no shot as it was a small cavity so I am now Celebrating by having a square of Dark Chocolate with nuts….duh….
Good Afternoon (edging into early pre-Evening), ALL!
Can I still order from the Breakfast menu?
Steak and (2) eggs (over easy)
Hash Brown Casserole
Smoking Ham
Root Beer Floats
Doc’s World Famous Nuclear Coffee
Chocolate cake
A Slamburger? Never heard of it. But I’m game to try…
Hmm–that’s not very breakfasty. But, then, it’s afternoon.
Doctor Toon said, about 9 episodes ago
I’m not sure if television is ready for full frontal nudity on circus animals.
My thought too.
Followed quickly by, “But, aren’t all the (female) characters played by guys? How’s that supposed to work?”
That thunderstorm that was threatening last evening? It went away, and isn’t supposed to be back until Wed evening through Friday eve. Most likely (at the moment) Thursday night. Now it’s just hot and muggy, at least for us here.
I went back to college when I was 35 and found it easier as I was more motivated and discovered just living life prepared me more.
The professors seem to respect the ‘Non-traditional” older student.
The high point of this was shortly after WW 2. All those returning servicemen with the G.I. Bill were really motivated to learn–many professors noted that their classes were never so gung ho.
We were pretty good on rain through mid-July, but since then the prairies have been getting drier and drier. Oddly, we keep getting weeks in which there’s a chance of rain every day–only it never seems to show up.
Just enough - (honestly I didn’t count, I just kept lighting). Don’t let Luv get too close with the nuc coffee though, or we might not have a tent tomorrow.
Tell me about it. I was just looking at some delightful cakes with fruit. I was gaining weight doing just hat.
Lot of people are very creative. Also breaks up same old.
I wish to thank all those that posted those pictures.
Sorry for the lack of response - busy day today and now I am heading home.
As to the cake flavors - different sections = different flavors. Once it’s cut I’m sure everyone will find exactly what they like. Lemon, chocolate, white, vanilla, strawberry, etc. I think the big layer is the chocolate since there seems to be a concensus of chocaholics around here. :)
Have a good night everyone, and don’t party too hard.!
I won’t even look at chocolate. I might bend for some other sweet deserts, but I don’t break. Now cheese cake is another story altogether. I’ll cut down on the main course for a slab of cheese cake.
Hi, tribe!Lew - No Hookers (by name or by profession) are in my geneology that I know about anyway. Ancestor with the last name of Newberry was in East (now South) Windsor by 1646, so I’d have to guess he was one of the early settlers. Not sure exactly when that was settled. Found another ancestor in CT, last name of Delano or Hatch, in Tolland, but I’m not sure when they showed up in CT. I’ve had some interesting reading about plain-spoken ancestors being put in the public stocks in Massachusetts, during the colonial days. No body burned at the stake or drowned on purpose that I’m aware of, though.
Hi, Sojo!
I’ve been checking the radar screen, especially after my weather radio kept going off. Looks like the storm is petering out, and we won’t get any here.
Speaking of turnover (whoever’s left here), have you seen the August 10th edition of Brewster Rockit? It fits perfectly with what’s going on here, and believe me, there’s a turnover going on… in my stomach. :P
I just don’t have a laptop and share computer internet with my hubby. I would like to get one, and due to cc and Jr. college will be very tough.
I’m not watching any tv it’s almost 11 here. I guess I will get some reading done. This book isn’t dry and keeps moving. Last 7 chapters though can last awhile.
As the old saying here goes have a great turn over.

Can I still order from the Breakfast menu?
Steak and (2) eggs (over easy) Hash Brown Casserole Smoking Ham Root Beer Floats Doc’s World Famous Nuclear Coffee Chocolate cake A Slamburger? Never heard of it. But I’m game to try…
Hmm–that’s not very breakfasty. But, then, it’s afternoon.

I’m good, LW18. Now if we could just get the thunderstorm to arrive with the cold front…
ladywolf17 over 14 years ago
It’s been nice in Southern California, but we sure could use some rain.
bmonk over 14 years ago
We were pretty good on rain through mid-July, but since then the prairies have been getting drier and drier. Oddly, we keep getting weeks in which there’s a chance of rain every day–only it never seems to show up.
bmonk over 14 years ago
That is a big birthday cake–how many candles?
ldyhwkd over 14 years ago
Just enough - (honestly I didn’t count, I just kept lighting). Don’t let Luv get too close with the nuc coffee though, or we might not have a tent tomorrow.
George Arnold over 14 years ago
Hi Ladyhawk!
Have a very small T-storm now. Just a little rain, not much, but the temperature has dropped from 102° to 82°!

Have a good night everyone, and don’t party too hard.!
kab2rb over 14 years ago
I’m going to exercise off some calories I’ll try to get on later. Hubby wants his turn. See ya. PoP

I won’t even look at chocolate. I might bend for some other sweet deserts, but I don’t break. Now cheese cake is another story altogether. I’ll cut down on the main course for a slab of cheese cake.

Bmonk: A Slamburger is a burger with a fried egg on it and hash-brown casserole on it and, of course cheese sauce, on a bun.
A low-cal delight.

Hi, tribe! Lew - No Hookers (by name or by profession) are in my geneology that I know about anyway.

Speaking of turnover (whoever’s left here), have you seen the August 10th edition of Brewster Rockit? It fits perfectly with what’s going on here, and believe me, there’s a turnover going on… in my stomach. :P
ladywolf17 over 14 years ago
I’ll check it out.
