Hello Montana Lady! - Will be interesting to see the amount of snow they say we have when it stops. Due to the wind it’s almost bare in larger flat ares but drifts are over 2 feet around some areas now. They usually measure the amount in flat areas which I think under-reports total snowfall.

Sojo - When I walk out to the mailbox, I’ll take a ruler and measure our snow. I measure in several different spots, so the readings aren’t thrown off much by the blowing. From what I hear on the radio, sounds like there are numerous cars stuck on major roads of Wichita. I’m sure glad we didn’t need to get out today!

Rmom - I think you’ll get more snow than we will. Drifting is the main problem I think (and cold temperatures). According to the radar I’m watching west Wichita is almost out of the snowing area. It’s moving very slow though so it will still be awhile and I don’t know if more will develope. Ths snow is very fine and dry so with the wind it will be hard at ground level to tell when the snowfall stops and what is just being blowng around.

Sojo - I’m pretty sure I’ll have more snow than you, from the forecast & radar. My hubby left work around 2, and got stuck getting home. Thankfully, some sheriff’s officer using his private 4-wheel drive truck gave him a ride home, after they couldn’t get his car out of the yard it slid into. I told him yesterday, he ought to get a shovel just in case, but he didn’t think he’d need it.

Rmom - I’m glad to hear he made it home okay. As cold as it is, being stuck can become a big problem if your stranded for a long time.

Sojo - Days like today is why when he first took the job, we bought a sleeper sofa for his office. That was when he was still commuting from our house everyday. I’m glad that he is staying in the same town now, because knowing him, he would have attempted to drive home anyway.

*Hey, Out there This is ceasing to be “fun” * It is still coming down and over my knees on what appears to be flat ground…(I had to wade out for a moment) I am 5’5”.

The official report was 5 inches at 11 o’clock here but I don’t know how they can get an accurate report. I know all you Snow bunnies and polar bears in Canada New England and Chicago get more snow than this all the time. I have great respect for you!

Hope&Joy - I reconsidered going out for the mail. It just doesn’t seem worth the effort. I haven’t heard what the official report is for my area, but 6-8 inches is my guess based on what I can see from my windows (and previous snowfalls.) There’s a reason I don’t want to live somewhere that gets snow like this often!

Well according to the lateset update our best chances for snow will occur Thursday on in to Friday as moisture moves in from the Gulf. Exact timing and accumulation are still unknown, but they think the worst of the accumulation will occur south of I10 which includes Pasadena and League City. So I guess I will be worrying about my commute then.

When I left I wasn’t sure I let alone had trouble getting out of the drive like so many others, but drive residential street. This one road getting on a different street from main road was worse. Getting to work I used headlights but looked for tire tracks. Now for relaxing. I was not to calm going in. Wednesday is another day.

This one road I take was in better shape then I thought. Mainteance has been working on parking lot at that dept I work at. School is closed for Wed. Everyone did get big thanks, the other facility manager didn’t do that, the new one did and we can wear blue jeans at no fee.

Well, working in Edmonton we had days where the high could have been -40 not factoring in wind chill. In Montreal, I walked to school in not much better. A very big dump of snow was the only thing that kept me out of school. It didn’t happen as often as we would have liked.

Hi Grog, ice on the lines, high winds and blowing snow.

HI Kab, The Chicago area is getting hit hard right now. Many areas getting 2-3 inches per hour with 40-50 mph winds.

Hi Rmom & HopeandJoy♫, no alternate source of heat setup here.

Wolfie - Wow! Without an alternate heat source, that would be miserable if the power hadn’t come back on quickly. Even in Wichita, some people went without power for a week or longer during an ice storm about 5 years ago. At least my mom insisted on getting a wood stove for just such cases before the new addition was completed. It was a bear to keep it fed with firewood, but at least we could do that until it was safe to take her to our house.

Rmom, not to fear. I have access to more than one generator if needed and hooking one up is like playing checkers for me. We have never been with out power for more than 6 hours in the 9 years I have lived here. I have insulated this house myself and it will stay bearable for quite a while.

Wolfie - Just be careful with hooking up a generator, but I believe you probably do know how to do that safely. We did extra insulation on this house too - 2x6 walls so we could have more insulation, best windows we could buy, but it still gets uncomfortable fairly fast. I’m glad your power hasn’t stayed off long, it is bad enough in the summer, but it is worse in the winter. Of course, when I’m cold, I’m really miserable.

Don’t worry Rmom. I’ve been zapped by electricity many times in the past. I used to install attic fans and I very seldom turned off the power. Same when I do minor electrical repairs here at the house. Nothing like a refreshing zap every now and then! LOL

Lonewolf I bet you have curley locks or else your hair stands on end from all the zapping! You are scaring me again. *: )

I am glad our house is cozy tonight. We have gas burning logs in case of an emergency but haven’t switched to a gas stove.

Wolfie - My hubby doesn’t like getting zapped, even with static electricity. But he wired our whole house, so I’m pretty familar with the basics of electricity. I wanted him to wire a separate circuit for the generator, but I don’t think he ever completed that project. The last couple of times he tried to start the generator, it wouldn’t work. I’m glad we’ve got the wood stove - I figure that will keep us warm enough to wait until it is safe enough to travel to family, friends or a hotel with power.
