I think I’ll make some Cajun Tater Tots today. Don’t know whether they actually exist, and don’t care. Tater tots made mildly to wicked hot by whatever Louisiana hot sauce or seasoning you ask for, from Tabasco to Tony What’s-His-Name. ;)

Another great day in Montana……..got all the way up to 46! Woo Hoo!. Supposed to be in the 40’s all week. I can handle that! Makes it easier for me to get some walking in when the mood hits. :))

I’ll bring some corned beef hash and eggs over medium to the breakfast buffet. Of course, I’ll take some DWFNC back with me to go along with noicantspell’s toasted apple oats! (sounds really good)

CocoMocha is good drinking! The cajun tater tots sound like they would be good with cottage cheese.  NoICan’tSpell, I’ve never heard of toasting the oats first. Recently, I’ve been grinding my oats into powder for a nice smooth oatmeal. I bet toasted oats would be good in cookies. Somebody try it and tell me?

Hi, friends! – I thought “toasted oats” was the generic name for Cheerios?

Hi, Alain, Oooooops!, and SR Mom!!

I thought toasted oats could be just that: oats, not ground or shaped or nuthin’, just toasted.

The only way I’ll eat oatmeal is if it is toasted with sugar, like oatmeal cookies. I can eat Cheerios, but not a lot. I may have to try *noicantspell*’s method.

I saw baby oatmeal one day and decided that it was probably just ground up oatmeal. Tried it, and now I like it beyer than regular oatmeal so I eat oatmeal more often. Just made some with craisins, cinnamon and brown sugar this weekend. Very Yummy!

I kept having flops with my oatmeal cookies, and couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong. I think I bought the quick oats, instead of the old-fashioned kind, and they made my cookies squish out flat.

I always thought oatmeal goes mushy anyway after cooking. I would need rasins or something to jazz them up. I do not like plain oatmeal.

when you toast the oats first they don’t cook to mush as readily. you must be careful when toasting them. just like nuts they will go from brown to black fast. that is why i stop at golden brown. dont stint on the butter and don’t toast to hot.you don’t want to burn the butter. it takes longer to cook after toasting and is a bit of a pain but the extra flavor makes it a nice occasional treat.

Smiley Mom, I bought a Magic Bullet about a year ago and it has both the blade that lets me grind my oatmeal and a regular blender type blade. With multiple containers it is great for smaller jobs. I actually use it a lot. Especially since it makes it easy to make inexpensive hummus.

I think they let it drip back into the pan—but they did paint over the mashed potatoes on the wall. Said it gave texture.
