yep. Goldfinger for sure. I am so old, I foolishly thought that you kids would remember that old (1964) movie. the reason for the post was the running gag in there that one of the gangsters was said to have a ‘pressing engagement’ meaning that he got disposed of via a car crushing machine like what happyathome posted.another classic exchange from the same movie:.Bond: “do you expect me to talk?”Goldfinger: “no, mister Bond. I expect you to DIE”

I love Bond because I too love my martinis shaken, not stirred.

So that is what the link was. After I accidentally flagged happy I didn’t dare take the chance again. And yes, I remember “Goldfinger” the man with the golden gun. I think, well, if it was 1964, I was 10 or 11 then, depending on when it came out. I’m a December baby.

It came out that summer and the anticipation was so great that I HAD to see the premiere, but it was at the drive in. and as luck would have it, there was a dense fog that night. Now THAT was an experience . The sound came through just fine(courtesy of the high fidelity , state of the art sound system hanging on the half open window) but since you could barely see past the car’s hood, it was like listening to an old time radio show with only your imagination supplying the video.and, for the record, The Man with the Golden Gun was a separate movie (and book) from Goldfinger…….Roger Moore (BOOOOO!) was Bond in the Man with the Golden Gun and of course,Sean Connery was 007 in Goldfinger. not that any of that trivia matters….

Goldfinger was my favorite Bond movie. The Man With the Golden Gun was an altogether different movie, and was played by Christopher Lee. And yes I remember them both very well, since those and a few other 007 movies are a part of my collection.

I have Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, You only Live Twice, Her Majesty’s Secret Service, Diamonds Are Forever, Live And Let Die, The Man With the Golden Gun, The Spy Who Loved Me & Moonraker.

In The Cannonball Run, Moore refers to The Spy Who Loved Me as The Fly Who Bugged Me.

I liked both Roger Moore and Sean Connery as James Bond, the others not so much. Pierce Brosnan was pretty good, though.

I loved the movie “Ffolkes”. Haven’t seen it in ages, I’ll have to see if NetFlix has it.

I have always hated Valentines day. Just another legalized way for people to make other people feel horrible about themselves.

I agree, Fellow Baby, though I prefer Connery over Moore. However, the Moore movies were good stories. I began losing interest, when Timothy Dalton took over.

I would be much more comfortable with OddBALL. Woof, woof!

Well, Fellow Baby, I’d rather face the paint than the music of being decapatitated.

I was only seven when Goldfinger came out. I may have seen it at the drive-in with my parents. I never slept through the movies like my older sister. I think that was the intent of taking us to the drive-in- to get us to sleep.

To get ME to sleep. My sister had no trouble, but I saw both features if there were two. I doubt my parents saw or heard much with me in the car.

I just polished off the spare ribs I brought home last night. Mmm. Delish..

I never like Roger Moore for some reason, except as “The Saint”. I loved Sean Connery though. I would have been happy to see him in all the James Bond movies, except that, alas, he would have been too old to do some of the stunts. maybe.

Yes, I remember the decapitating bowler hat. I didn’t recognise the scene that was posted becasue I saw that movie such a long time ago.

So Shika was a yappy youngster at the drive-in movies, eh?

We have like 2 drive-ins left anywhere near us. Sad really. So many good old things are now gone forever. Gee, does that make me an “old fart” remembering the good old days? I guess each generation has it’s own good memories, and will our youngsters. Imagine, they will be remembering the good old days of PS3, IPads and the like.

Another reason I like the Connery films was that the stories were all tied around Spectre in some way. Some were specifically written around Bond trying to get his hands on Bloefeld. By the time Moore took over, Spectre and Bloefeld were finished. After that there were some good stories in which Roger Moore was a part of, but pickins were slim after that. Latter movies weren’t even based on Flemmings’ books.

Dry The Drive-In I remeber is still operating, although I’m sure it has been upgraded. I haven’t been there since the 1960’s. I rmember my sister and I in our pajama’s playing on the swings while we waited for the movie to start with “Shopsy’s” jingle.

No way that little girls would be allowed outside alone like that now.

I never read the books. I just know that I only watched a few of the early movies and didnn’t really like Roger Moore. But that was just me at the time I suppose.

For some reason, the drive-in I remember most was in Lake George, NY. We were having a rather late dinner in a Howard Johnsons and the drive-in accross the street was showing The Green Berets. We actually went to see the movie the following night.

I was 14 when the movie came out. I went through puberty with James Bond — still have all the books!

*GroG, That drive-in had free advertizing. A captive audience eating in a restaurant.

Shika, my mother & father were watching those movies with me. My father had read the books long before I did. I only bought the books a couple years ago.

Shika, my dad didn’t need the advertizing to see a John Wayne movie. We were going to see it anyway, just because he was in the movie. I recall seeing a couple Wayne movies in the drive-in, though the name of the western escapes me.

Then I’d say that for the most part, they had more interesting reading than we did, JP Steve. However, we did get to read some interesting books that could get us into books. Not all were like that, but when you can throw in an Asimov with the Steinbecks, It makes reading a lot more interesting when you can toss in some frowned upon mind-stretching sci-fi in with the other literature classics.

I never got into Tarzan, Happy.

I did have many of the Hardy Boys mysteries though. I wonder what happened to them all.

JP Steve if my math is right, you are the OLDEST OLD FART here! Not by much between me and Stel but still, that makes me feel SO YOUNG!

I had a collection. I managed unload all but 3 of the books.

Gotta say, John Wayne’s movies were always great, western or otherwise. Of course, the early ones I never cared for, like “Angel and the Badman” I believe that was the title.

Time to say good night. It’s started to rain again and looks like it’s going to be heavy. I may lose my connection shortly anyway as a result.

I have that one Fellow Baby as well as Fort Apache and She Wore A Yellow Ribbon. One of these days, I’ll get Stagecoach.

Good night Fellow Baby! But you can use the rain, correct? And my best sleep is when I hear “that rain on the roof, my favorite night music” as per Dolly at Family Circus. Still have that particular strip on my refrigerator.
