Fellow Baby, I wanted to say the same to you while you were there, but you disappeared and I ended up forgetting. So hopefully, you will see this today.
Stay safe, Fellow Baby! And that also goes for anyone else in Frankenstorm’s path.
sugie, grog—-yes indeedy that was Doug Flutie. why would I post his image?well, it was, as are all my misguided comments and postings, an attempt at humor. the previous comment to mine was:.INGSOC said, Band Camp, so where had he placed his flute.?. sigh….just a silly play on words that was incredibly lame, not to mention incredibly subtle.
Good morning Fellow Baby, cleo, sugie, Chefwen, Stel, jessegooddoggy, nighthawks, and Number Six!
Thanks Fellow Baby. I was off work today anyway, got a text from my boss, he’s closing the office tmr. too. Both sons are off as well, many businesses and all schools closed. Hubby still has to work though. Essential personnel you know. And on top of that, I get a call from my cousin this am, the last of my mom’s siblings has passed away at the age of 93. Explains now why Sandy is heading our way. Like my cousin said, “mom’s going out with a bang”. Yep, of all the siblings she was the most outspoken, seems appropriate in a way, that she would pass now. You know what I mean?
Stel ol’ Bel, it wasn’t Tennis, it was cricket!..he was known to have carried a sticky wicket, which, to his consternation, was the cause of his high uniform-cleaning bills.ANYway, all seriousness aside, you batten down your hatches, ‘cause there’s a nor’easter a-headin’ your way. and if you have ever had your hatches battened, you know how painful that can be.
Stel, Sandy hasn’t hit land yet, and this is some of the nastiest weather I have seen in my life! Seriously! The next day or so is going to be bad I think! Already a piece of my porch roof is flapping in the wind.
Stel I took a vacation day today, anyway, but my boss texted all of us. He told us to stay home today and tmr. and closed the office. Most state offices are closed, some businesses, all schools, etc. Both my sons are officially off the next 2 days. Hubby has to work though. He is considered an essential employee. Guess that means the rest of us aren’t, LOL!
if i wasn’t taking care of mom, i might be tempted.but not as long as mom needs me.i love mushrooms.all kinds of mushrooms.i was wondering what they would taste like in a rib-eye steak…
cleo, It has sounded like a constant freight train on the move since about 4 pm and it is supposed to get worse. Hubby is out on front porch now trying to fix the porch roof. For the storm that is being “hyped!”
I do not like this wind! Dry, take good care! I hope we’ll both be on-line tomorrow! The wind is starting to get very strong here now…I cannot imagine what it must be like in NY, NJ and especially where you are in PA. We were out with Max about a half hour ago (just in the driveway) and I’ve never seen it blow like that! And, it got worse after we got back into the house…maybe 50 or 60 mph (?).
The wind is whipping trees around here. I can’t even imagine what it is like down your way Dry or anyone else in the eastern States. StelBel how did you keep Max from blowing away?
Shika pretty much EVERYTHING around here is shut down now, through tmr. as well. Still some traffic out front, but it seems to have stopped since about 7 pm. Of course, I heard a few “NUT JOBS” driving up our hill way faster than they should be. I hope our front wall or our neighbors hedge doesn’t get taken out again on top of all this weather!
Yeah happy if we want to know what is going on we have to watch a local channel or listen to the radio. I mean after all, this is Central PA, not the BIG APPLE! Who gives a rat’s A@@ about us folks!
Same here Dry. According to the forecast, we might get “some showers”. According to the local news, we are being told to have emergency kits ready for evacuation. lol
Hey kids. Hope everyone is tucked safely away tonight. That storm looks fierce and all my good thoughts and best wishes go out to all you kids in its path. Stay safe you guys.
Yes I am Shika. We are not expecting to see any weather from this monster. From what the weather guy said, it will actually keep a high pressure warm front hanging over us.
@Shika_BOO!Fly Agaricits hallucinogenic AND toxic. but not as toxic as its made out to be, apparently.and if you parboil it, you remove the hallucinogenic toxins.
Back in my misspent youth I used to go trail riding (horses) in the local forests. We were a crew of non-repentant cowboy-biologists, and took along our own mycologist to show us which mushrooms were safe to pick. Were we spoiled or what?
ive bin mushrooming for shantrels (spelling?)a couple of times with my cousins.and my brother is fond of wild *_morels*_.and i am now living in the land of fungi, i should find someone to teach me a few.shantrels(spelling?) are out of the question. i cant get the altitude near here to get them.at least i dont think so.
JP Steve, my cousin took a course just so she could ID mushrooms and go mushroom picking regularly. I dropped in once when she was frying up a batch of will mushrooms in butter. Oh, were they ever tasty!
I’m watching news on the storm. It does seem as though a lot of the coverage is in the coastal areas. The storm surge is going to cause a lot of damage as well as the wind. Even when we have hurricanes on hitting the Texas coast, all the reporters seem to in in the coastal areas, like Galveston. They tend to suffer most of the damage.
I know there are folks out there who can identify mushrooms safe and toxic, but I will stick to my supermarket, just in case, you know?
One of my favorite things is a Portobello mushroom, slice of eggplant, onion slice, fried, stuck between 2 slices of bread when fried, add a slice of cheese, grill the sandwich, and wow, what a good tasting sandwich!
The lights have been flickering, but still on. Had one moment of no power, only lasted long enough to kick off the digital and start the programming over again. But the night isn’t over, and the winds are getting stronger. As if they weren’t strong enough before, and that DAMN FREIGHT TRAIN is getting louder and louder! Why do people live near Railroad Tracks anywho?
Fellow Baby for about 3 years I lived in the Montreal burb of Dorval. I was close to the CP rail line, Highway 20 and Dorval International Airport. Talk about planes, trains and automobiles keeping you up at night.
FALLING TREES, FELLOW BABY? I am debating whether to spend the night on the couch. We have one tree outside the bedroom window, part of which came down a couple years ago during a severe thunderstorm. Hit part of the back porch, but didn’t do any damage. Hubby says, “if it goes down now, it won’t hit the house, it will fall in this direction”. And we do have part of a 2 layer attic where it would hit first if it hit there, but still, He who said, “they are just hyping up this storm for ratings” or words to that effect!
Fellow Baby, PLANES, TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES? Sorry for your lack of sleep during that time, but THAT IS ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITE MOVIES! JOHN CANDY AND STEVE MARTIN? OH MY OH MY! I should slip that CD into my laptop now and watch it! I won’t because I’m tired, but that is the NEXT thing I must do! Tmr! When I am stranded! LOL!
Fellow Baby something AMAZING just happened! Our local paper, like most, are getting skimpy, sadly. I keep it up out of loyalty for all these MANY years! But our carrier, who usually throws the paper on the porch in the early am, brought it to us now, in person. They published early and she is out in this SHI! doing her job. When my bill comes due, that girl is getting a good tip!
good night people and pets.im still sore, and i have had a hard day again.early to bed tonight.and everyone in harms way, please be careful.no missing avatars tomorrow.
