@Tony P. – My cat has opposable thumbs and still doesn’t bring me wine. I’ll have to work on him. He does, however, try to grab my pen while I’m working the crossword puzzles. He also likes to stand under the faucet with the water running. Strange dude!
I’ll likely be pretty scarce today. Month end starts today and when I get home, I got to get ready for the little munchkins. And in between feeding them their next dentist bill I’ll be watching _It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown & Arsenic And Old Lace. By the time I drop in it’ll probably be time to say goodnight.
Can anyone answer why The Wizard Of Oz is usually shown during the Christmas holidays and not Halloween?
StelBel I suppose over the years I only recall it being shown somewhere during the Christmas Holidays. I know I haven’t seen it on network television at Halloween, even though I think it would be a natural for Halloween.
When I was growing up in the 50’s “the Wizard of Oz” would be billed as a (probably the first) “Christmas special.” It was always introduced by Danny Kaye which seemed to make it more special than an ordinary movie.
happy, I used to put up a little Halloween tree, when my sons were little. Our Trick or Treat night for this county and some surrounding areas, was moved up to tmr. night because of Sandy coming through here. Don’t have too many little kids in our neighborhood any more, and I also think kids aren’t going door to door like they used to, sadly. My the times they have "a changed’!
Even when mine were young, a couple of us neighbors took our kids door to door as a group. It was fun, the kids were together and the adults “played catch-up” with our lives.
WHERE IS STEL O BEL? It wouldn’t surprise me if she is greeting her Trick or Treaters at the Door, in costume. I had 2 neighbors who did that! LOL! One dressed as a Witch, the other as a Scarecrow, every year, until their kids grew up.
we are having a major rain event, so im not expecting anyone tonight.(sigh)at 8:00 is The Great Pumpkin, and i am going to stay up and watch it.just becouse…
Fellow Baby, the turnout was a little better than last year I think. But I’m pretty sure I’ve seen more on week-ends. I ran out of candy then. This year, I’ve still got plenty left.
I didn’t wear any costume but I did wear my Raider T-shirt with Raider logo. I think the some of the little ones found my minimal decorations and my movie effects scary enough.
Just watched, for the bazillioneth time, the “I Love Lucy episode, Hollywood at Last” with Bill Holden. Again, as many times as I have seen it, I still laugh so hard the tears come. That has GOT TO BE the CROWN JEWEL OF COMEDY!
I’ll tell you what, they don’t make any comedy close to even being good enough to compare these days to “I Love Lucy”, not even the “Honeymooners” was as good as that, IMHO.
Well, I think my ranking would be WKRP, Nightcourt and Honeymooners. Lucy really didn’t do much for me – even though the Holden show was a blast as was MTM’s Chuckles Bites the Dust.
Nighcourt was good too, and Barney Miller. Never heard of Chuckles. Canadian? Speaking of Canadian, “RED GREEN” would rank in my top 5! In fact, I would replace that with my number 3, Honeymooners and move the Honeymooners down a notch! But Lucille Ball was the Queen of Comedy. She knew what to do and Desi was MUCH under rated. He was a genius! For that matter, so was Jackie Gleason.
And another fascinating thing to me, is how after Lucy and Desi divorced, how close they remained. And when he was dying what she and her then husband did for him to see him through the last months of his life. Their life story and marriage, divorce and how they were still close afterwards is an amazing story.
The second best thing about taking little man out for Halloween is not having to go out and buy candy. It comes to me. The best thing……..is seeing how excited he gets..It was a long one today so I will say good night to all the kiddos of the land. Sleep well everyone.
