    Welcome, everybody…..

This where we post our comments for ….

the April 10th  2018 “CLEO and COMPANY”

Which we all read on Sherpa:

    Gosh… I hope Russell wakes up soon…

We’re supposed to be meeting in his rec room…. he just finished re-doing the floor.

    Russell!!

Wonder what time he fell asleep…. he must have been awfully tired if he didn’t even take his shoes off!

If we get there and he’s still asleep, we can go on over to my salon.

It’s not far from Russell’s and I have a big comfortable kitchen.

    I’d have to hope you’d excuse a bit of clutter…. I didn’t think I’d have company…

so let’s try Russell’s first, OK?

Maybe there is a difference between “Rouse yourself” and “Arouse yourself”, I don’t know but I think I would just let sleeping Russell lie.

Meanwhile, Stel-Bel has created a poster of the Little Basset Tramp. Love the little ’stache! As this is a “pants” role, no purply eye shadow for Cleo in her alter-ego role. She is such a good actress that she keeps her cool even while being bitten by fleas, unlike the human copycat:

I confess I’m worried about Russell, not least because we’re seeing him as he was ten years ago, so God only knows what state he’s in now. But sleeping fully clothed and shod, on a sofa, with a call to arms staring you in the face the instant you open your eyes. I think Russell has PTSD from his years in Uncle Sam’s service. He needs that command, the ready-at-all-times attitude now, just to get through the day. I hope ol’ Russell got the help he needed.

    Wow… Charlie Chapbasset!

I’ve been waiting for a Chapbasset film!

He was such a master of silent slapstick…

nobody could slap a stick or fetch one like Charlie!

I know he was the inspiration for his human imitator….

    Charlie Chaplin…..

and sure enough, Chaplin imitated this film….

They just called the all-human version “Circus” …

And it must not have had big co-stars in it like “Flea Circus” did,

cos none of the posters I found even mentioned them.

Maybe they couldn’t find a great human beauty, to take the place of Merna Kennel.

Even though Charlie Chapbasset was the bigger star,

Cleo actually played the title role in a film with the human, Charlie Chaplin….

    I remember, cos I loved that poster,too!

Charlie Chapbasset had been itching to get into showbiz since he was a pup. Luckily, he ran into W. Randog Hearst and was made a star of his own movie. It is rumored that Nighthound and Rottweiler Tailwag was somehow involved in the backroom machinations. Hedda Hopper had some unfounded rumors about someone named StelBel, but they were quickly crushed by her agent (possibly with the addition of a hefty fee to Ms Hopper’s favorite charity for unwed bassets).

I really feel bad that Ballard Street is put in the Sherpa catagory. To me it is one of my daily gotta see’s.

I’m glad Chapbasset went on to do talkies. Despite his doubts about making it, his first one had much to say in a very dark period.
