Scooter is brown in this 2009 strip. Must be a different Scooter. In any event, he cannot keep Al and Peg from their rare romantic moment.

Nighthawks, I forget why you stopped doing parodies of great art, but I always liked this one. I know Stel has done some great ones too. In any event I love this one

Later that night, a long and mournful howl reverberated throughout the cell block.

Oh…. I see Dennis and Farside are here already…

Hi guys… and anybody else who manages to post before I finish typing this…

and of course a big hello to everybody still on the way!

We’re here to comment, of course. on

the Feb 11th  2019 “CLEO and COMPANY”

A lovely painting by Vincent Van Dogh, with a wee bit of help from Nighthawks….

See it, as usual, on Sherpa…

Cleo fits right in, doesn’t she?

    She looks so natural there.

Was it the kibble truck? The taco cart?

Oh no…. not the tank? or… OMG… the RPG???

How will she ever get out?

    No, Cleo… sigh…. you’re not there yet.

Oh…wait…. maybe she is… I think she got out!

I hope she didn’t escape… but served her sentence and learned a lesson.

Oh yeah. This is Cleo, we’re talking about, isn’t it. I almost forgot.

    Anyway…look:

      https://i.pinimg.com/originals/89/40/83/89408378b0d44d4aca820efe5f2877c8.jpg

    See? She’s gone!

And yes, Dennis… this is just what I was trying to explain Friday, on Ballard St 2018….

Jerry Van A is consistent…. except for when he isn’t.

Scooter is always a large white dog…. unless… just maybe…. he’s brown or yellow that day.

Could be the colorist… they get very little pay, and usually no guidance.

Some cartoonists supply a vague color guide to their strip in general, but most don’t.

Mr. Van A may have said in his general instruction sheet that Scooter is white…

but a colorist gets about 10 minutes per strip per day…. and this one may not have looked at it recently.

Looks like the prison that Ra’s al Ghul’s child escaped from.

    A small correction…. we’re commenting here on the February 10th 2019 “Cleo and Company”….

But you all knew that, right?

If you didn’t, you’d have a hard time getting to the Feb 11th strip, anyway, until tomorrow.

My link always goes to the current Cleo strip…. no matter what date I put in my comment.

Likewise, if you visit a past forum, you’ll have to use the calendar to take you to that day’s strip, if you’re looking for it.

I’m up late tonight… even when I made my first post, hours ago, I was behind schedule.

I’m not big on turning this into a cooking forum, as Alexikakos knows…. (sorry Alexi) …

but I do have to share something.

I was making soup tonight, aiming to have some with my normally quite late (9pm-ish) dinner…

This is one I’ve made many times…. no recipe… sometimes starts with with chicken, tonight just chicken broth…

vegetables like carrots, potatoes and green beans….

the addition of beets, cabbage and tomatoes makes it a sort of Russian style chicken borscht.

Tonight I was using fresh beets, instead of canned…

I know they take a while to cook, so I made small, perhaps half-inch, cubes.

And started them simmering first, along with the onions; after a while I added the carrots…

in an hour more I tasted the beets, but they were hard.

I let it cook another hour…

The comics were up when I added the tomatoes, cabbage, potatoes, etc…

an hour after that, I finally ate some.

The beets were still not soft.

So…. if you ever make this soup…. just remember….

    the beet goes on.

    And on and on.

My internet is all messed up this morning. Cleo just isn’t loading, and I only can see the featured comment from Dennis. I guess I’ll come back later this afternoon.

Oh my goodness! I would go stir crazy in that jail. Those windows are way too tall to even see out of!

But our Cleo probably doesn’t even mind. All those lovely gentlemen will be there to rub her belly and stroke her silky ears. Heaven!
