Well Clive, maybe you should have bought ‘Powerpoint’ for her.

Clive, while you were fooling around on “Whose line is it” Jane was gathering evidence. She is a professor after all, so I am sure that her presentation will be spellbinding. If you fall asleep, you will surely flunk this class!

Yeah, Claude, stay away from that tubular-shaped mystery meat. It’s way too tasty.

I prefer my hot dogs steamed anyway night rates or no nitrates. And the bun steamed as well.

The tube steaks cost more at night? Must be at the ball park.

Is Jane posing a question, or is she about to answer one?

I hope people don’t laugh when they see that bowl that Clara crammed on his head.

    Hullo, Cleoites….

This is, of course, the comments forum for the August 18th  2019 “CLEO and COMPANY”

Which Dennis linked you to on Sherpa, above.

If you’re wandering down Memory Lane via old Ballard Street strips… stick around and join us every day on Cleo!

Tomorrow we’ll be discussing tommorow’s Cleo on on tomorrow’s ten year old Ballard Street… and so on. See how that works?

Today’s strip, combined with a dozy brain. yielded nothing but random musings…

like… “tube steaks” …. anybody remember when “totally tubular” was teen slang? No, me neither…. but the movies thought so, I think.

Also…. hamburgers, frankfurters, weiners… all those words come from German place names….

But in English we adapt and improvise…. so, though “hamburger” has nothing to do with ham….

if they’re made of ground turkey, we call them “turkey burgers.”

We don’t call turkey hotdogs “turkeyfurters”.

Shouldn’t a “turkeyburger” be from Turkey, not made of it?

And why are turkeys called turkeys, anyway?

On the other hand, it came full circle and some places serve “beef burgers.”

What do we call a ground ham patty?

“Weiners” originally meant they were from Vienna….

But our “Vienna sausages” are not weiners, but nasty little soggy things in a can or jar.

A misnomer unfair to Vienna and to food in general.

Obviously, I need to go back to sleep….

But not before saying that Jane thinks she’s doing a good deed, “helping” people see their faults….

Clive wants to “improve” for her benefit…. but while his body is in that chair…. his mind is in his boat on Ballard Lake.

We have WAY too many “Janes” on GoComics…

who “helpfully” attempt to “correct” other posters, and even the cartoonists, with content, spelling, or grammar….

when they ought to just go back to bed as well.

    G’night

Looking at Clara’s costume, How many of you recognize what she is wearing over her jeans and shirt? I own one apron, brand new, sitting in a drawer for the last 13 years! I’m never cooking wearing “good” clothes to protect. I guess it’s a “grandma” thing. Oh wait! I’m a grandma!
