It’s the manly thing to do. Nice sweater, BTW.

A parasol and a brolly may look rather similar, but there’s a world of difference in them. Living and walking to work in a rainy area, I soon learned to carry a brolly and do so proudly!

I live in the tropics. When it rains, it’s usually so heavy that even under an umbrella you get soaked anyway. So like Monsieur Cardigan above, I do carry one ‘in case of emergency’ but can rarely be bothered using it; about the only emergency it’s good for is the occasional bout of Acute Gene Kelly Nostalgia.

Hey, carrying an umbrella is certainly better than this: http://tinyurl.com/nw4zsa

I use an umbrella to give wind gusts something to do. They are also good for leaving on the bus.

No-one ever accused John Steed of being a sissy.

His sweater shrunk on him during the last downpour and now he wears it as a second skin. Smells funky.

Nice sweater guy cracks me up - he’s afraid he’ll be “unmanly” if he carries an umbrella, but doesn’t worry when he uses words like “sashaying” and “parasol”. :)

It is a known fact that umbrellas tend to attract lightning.

I tend to use a good coat and hat in the rain myself, as umbrellas are just one more thing I can forget somewhere. But no, John Steed would not have been called a sissy for carrying one. Anyone who forced the point too far would meet the business end of his bowler. THWACK!

If an umbrella makes him feel more unmanly than that sweater, it must be a pink umbrella with pictures of kittens on it.
