That’s German. This is the standard response a Nazi soldier would have given to Hitler, I think. Kinda like “Yes, Sir!”, only implying it’s being said in Nazi Germany. Same goes for the heel click and raised hand.
This reminds me of when I was very young and I did something bad in class (I can’t even remember what it was). The teacher brought me out into the hallway and said, “Now you listen to me young man!” I grinned and said, “Okay old woman!” LOL, she was not happy. Hey, I was just mirroring what she said to me.
Haha…such a cute cosmopolitan Calvin is :D - I’m German too. Unfortunately for a German it’s not too funny to look at this strip for long- it’s kind of sad that the thing ppl. know best ‘bout Germany is “the Führer-Thing” :(
Apfel.Sine - Germany is also remembered for the Reformation. Most churches celebrate it Nov 1 every year. German food is legendary. German language is remembered for its subject/verb nesting (the German professor lectured for an hour, rattling off the verbs in the last few minutes). German science and technology is legendary. Who doesn’t wish to own a Mercedes? Who hasn’t heard of Gödel?
My name is an Anglicized form of the German Göttmann “God’s man”.
I am 1/4 of German that came from the German ancestor in 1700’s. We don’t speak German language. My last name is 100% German. Speaking of that words in German Calvin spoke was that I didn’t know what it meant. :-[ That strip was so funny! lols! :-D
Gweedo Murray says:
If someone picks up your little runty “ass”, with attitude; it’s time to ratchet down and regroup for the next “assault” which we will know will come.
EDIT: Had to use quotes, even on the second “a” as it was bleeeped also.
.
That is bizarre. Their words-to-censor database must have gotten garbled. I have been bleeped for using dar_n, yet seen some real nasties come through.
Stuart Gathman: I for one have NO interest in owning a Mercedes. Why would I subsidize the Germans? I have a Cadillac and a Buick and they are plenty good enough for me.
To continue a tangent, my mother bought a Mercedes and regrets it everyday. The blasted thing costs a fortune to repair.
Moving along though, all I can say is poor Rosalyn. In yesterday’s strip, all she wanted to do was make popcorn, maybe have a nice evening together, and he ruined it. Man that brings me back to my babysitting days.
Hugo Rahner, Karl’s less famous brother, dedicated his life translating his brother’s works into German.
There was an eminent German Theologian who died after completing five volumes of a six volume magnum opus. Unfortunately, the whole work is useless … all the verbs were coming out in that sixth volume.
My first store brought brand new car was a German VW bug. Nearly 60 years ago it cost
8 months of take home wages. Its 25 MPH was twice as good as the Detroit barges.
My current ride is a German (Mercedes) designed Smart car. It cost about 8 months of
take home.
Its 45+ MPG is twice what the average Detroit barge gets. (although, at 90 MPH the
milage is closer to 30 MPG).
Twixt the two, we owned several Detroit products, including one that cost 2X the
original retail in unscheduled maintenance over a 4 year period. Maybe by coincidence
it was lemon yellow.
We passed a Smart Car today. It appeared to be brand new. Cute little dude, about the size of our golf cart/neighborhood electric vehicle (GEMCar). I just wouldn’t want to be hit by a regular car in either one of them.
P. S. We have had NO unscheduled maintenance on our 2002 Buick or the 1989 (!) Cadillac. Both of them are totally reliable workhorses and the Buick is a rocket.

LOL…Calvin even clicks his heels in the 3rd panel. I am going to use this line with my boss.

For someone who thinks Chef Boy R Dee was America’s first president, Calvin’s Historical accuracy is actually pretty impressive.

I’m sure Hobbes is going to be happy to be carried in Rosalyn’s arms and Calvin is going to be angry with him for not attacking her…

Maybe Calvin’s been watching Hogan’s Heroes? That’s where my kids learned those words and actions.

I know not who Godel is. I do know we’d be in a better world situation now if a certain group hadn’t killed off so many Jews.

The German jokes I know - in a theological vein:
Hugo Rahner, Karl’s less famous brother, dedicated his life translating his brother’s works into German.
There was an eminent German Theologian who died after completing five volumes of a six volume magnum opus. Unfortunately, the whole work is useless … all the verbs were coming out in that sixth volume.

Hey Burgundy2, don’t forget white burgundy. It’s basically the original chardonnay.
FRIDABONITA about 16 years ago
Calvin had the chance to have popcorn and chill. His bad attitude towards Rosalyn is keeping him from enjoying no-parent night.
We learned early on when the baby sitter showed up to play to her/his good side and then the treats and late bed time was a done deal.
