I think Calvin is actually a Middle Schooler.

True doctortoon (and Yukoner), especially as Susie did introduce him to do “Mythology of Mercury”, and he correctly identified Mercury as the (Greco-Roman mythical) god with winged feet!

He should have gotten a cent-percent grade (admittedly, that would probably have made Susie still madder by orders of magnitude but…) for that.

That’s “Hell hath no fury like a woman SCORNED.” Not quite the same thing.

When my teachers called my mom I always got in double trouble too. Real unpleasant to have both your teacher and your mom mad at you at the same time!

LOL! I was hoping he would pull this one off b/c of his wild imagination as Spaceman Spiff. I mean, this kid knows about the theory of relativity and applies it to time travel!! :)

I’m with Calvin on this one … he simply took poetic license with the project. Could we expect Calvin to be anything than what he is?

The boy has a dreamer’s mind, a romantic’s heart, and the soul of a poet. I say “durn” to the establishment that would quash the essence of childhood …

calvin996, cyzicus: I knew quite a lot of the things at that age that Calvin seems to know, it could be down to the country you hail from or even the individual teachers at the schools you attend, or from the people around you as you grow up, in Calvin’s case this would be the very real presence of Hobbes, in my case some awesome uncles, and siblings ranged 10, 8 and 5 years older than myself, Oh and a mom who made me read the dictionary cover to cover on a regular basis.

What surprises me here is the need to call Calvins mom just because Susie freaked out, so He didn’t prepare, that’s what F’s are for ^^

Macushlalondra says: That’s “Hell hath no fury like a woman SCORNED.”

From my personal observations of the species known as Woman, they have a predominant tendency to believe they are being scorned most of the time, whether in fact this is happening or not ;)

So in essence wndrwrthg is correct to leave out the ‘scorned’… At least most of the time.

    JK ;)

Actually, there’s a number of cliches that take on a slightly different meaning twist when you leave off the last word or so: Hell hath no fury like a woman (scorned) A penny saved is a penny (earned) This hurts me worse than it hurts (you) You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him (drink) On a wild goose (chase)

You know what I hope. I hope this doesn’t squelch all of his creativity. If I were a teacher I’d have him in advance classes or an artsy school so fast. The academic world will only keep him down. There is a song by Harry Chapin called “Flowers are Red” check out the lyrics and you’ll see what I mean.

Ldywldkat: wow, that flowers are red song is almost depressing, but it’s so true. Thinking outside the box should be encouraged, but is so frequently squashed. it is a sad thing indeed.

For DreamScourge: admitted that he didn’t prepare, but he got the gist right anyway in his ad-libbing (the planet _is_ named after Greco-Roman mythical wingfoot god, who happened to be god of messages/heraldry; ok, we can dock him a little for using “bouquets/flowers” which are oft used as a message-type anyway). He doesn’t deserve an F: B- or C+ maybe (had he not made the “why did they name a planet after wingfoot dude?” comment in third panel yesterday, it would have been B or B).

As an amazing great genius (one who Calvin cited in an earlier strip as proof he was a genius) said:

“Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.”

“Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.”

“If the facts don’t fit the theory, change the facts.”

“Everything that is really great and inspiring is created by the individual who can labor in freedom.”

    ~Albert Einstein

Calvin, maybe you should pull these quotes next time someone crushes your creativity

Calvin picks up knowledge from observing real life, i.e. the FTD logo. He obviously didn’t do any encylopedia research. A C is the most I would give him. Perhaps Mom was called in about concern over his overall progress. This isn’t his only instance of not following directions or incomplete assignments. Susie’s mother should also be called about her anger management. Ldywldkat, good suggestions. Calvin needs a more creative kind of education. Or are we all getting too literal and involved with this? It is a comic strip. And it is funny.

I need to reference a Calvin and Hobbes comic but I cannot find the date. Can anyone help? It was the one about “Mr. Jones lives 50 miles away from you. Your both leave home at 5:00 and drive toward each other….”. I found it on a Math comics site but I wanted to reference it in a math magazine.
