I remember a quote that went something like, “Age and guile triumph over youth & inexperience” Of course, Calvin has plenty of guile - but Roz also has guile + more experience.

You have to pay more if you want skill. Mom & Dad don’t get out much.

I remember the older girl down the street would come over to my house and as me if I wanted to go for a walk, bike ride together, go visit her friends, and go over to her house to play for the day. I remember I was crushed when I went over on my own to her house to hang out together because I missed her and she told me to go home. She said the only reason she hung out with me was because my parents were paying her to. I ran home crying. My Mom explained the situation to me. I told my Mom not to pay her anymore because she really didn’t like me and she never watched me again.

Dino sounds like my middle niece speaking of her younger by 6 years cousin. no interest in hanging out at all, which was understandable. as for the “age vs youth” expression, i had always heard it cited as, “age and treachery shall destroy youth and talent.” but it doesn’t really matter.

Hey, Dino-1, I am sorry to hear your story. I would have been your friend! I “hung out” with my neighbor’s kids, even though they were 10+ years younger than I. Sweet kids. I can’t believe that the “baby” graduated from High School last year!
